Some years ago my partner, Murli, and I started Tin Men Capital in pursuit of that.

What no one tells you about running a VC fund (until you find out yourself).

People who’ve founded, or started, a VC fund know this:
It doesn’t just take a good investing team to run a fund.
You need an army of professional services firms to keep the clockwork going.

Most people see the obvious work.
 - Fundraising
 - Sourcing
 - Investing
 - Exiting

But there’s so much more running behind the scenes.

+ Capital calls
+ KYC / onboarding investors
+ Periodic reports to Limited Partners
+ Regulatory filings
+ Audit

None of these are optional.
If we want a well-functioning ecosystem, we need dependable service providers who can do these at a cost structure that makes sense.

However, that’s not we see today.
Come audit season, we’re still getting questions like:

“Why are your startups burning cash?”
“Can I have a DCF model for your investment?”

Audits are important. They’re a third-party opinion on how we value the portfolio.

But many auditors here are still (stubbornly?) looking at VC portfolios with a mature company lens.
And the pricing often follows: ~US$2k per year per company for a fair market valuation.

For VC funds (typically smaller than PE funds), that adds up fast and eats painfully into net returns.

It’s not sustainable. 
We’re in severe need of a step change in approach.

One bright spot for us has been working with good folks like those at Carta. (this is not a sponsored post 😅)

They’ve taken a tech-enabled approach to an archaic part of fund admin.

🔺 Capital call calculations done faster, with fewer errors.
🔺 Financial details available online, with enough granularity.
🔺 Onboarding, KYC, subscriptions, all in one platform.

To be clear, they’re not perfect.
Beyond the tech, the people we interface with…
They listen. They hear the pain points. 
And they keep iterating.

Eventually, investors should be able to access investment-level financials seamlessly, straight from source data.

If SEA wants a world-class VC ecosystem, the services layer around fund management, legal, accounting etc. has to keep evolving.

As it is right now, there is much room for improvement. 

For an aspiring financial hub of Southeast Asia, I don’t think this is too much to ask.

My 2026 predictions for LinkedIn (and how to capitalize on them):

(1) Video is coming back

LinkedIn launched video features, then killed them. They're coming back.

I'm already building video content engines for most of my clients - booking studios near their offices, producing authentic content that actually sounds like them. Not TikTok editing with quick cuts and trending audio. We're talking real conversations, well-edited but not overpolished. Sometimes landscape format, sometimes longer 5-minute pieces.

It's working better than written content right now.

(2) The algorithm will improve (but reach won't)

LinkedIn will finally crack down on AI-generated accounts and spam comments flooding the platform.

That said, organic reach will continue to decline. The platform is moving toward a pay-to-play model, which means you need both strong organic content and strategic ad spend to break through.

(3) Being human is the new competitive advantage

This means writing thoughtful comments multiple times a day. Sending original messages that don't feel templated. Creating content that clearly wasn't written by AI.

Most importantly, it means adding variety to your content. If every post follows the same structure, people tune out.

(4) Employee advocacy becomes a primary channel

For companies doing $5-30M in revenue, employee advocacy should be a top priority in 2026.

When done right, it becomes your main acquisition channel. Everyone wins, the company gets amplification, employees build their own brands, and the overall company image improves.

The key is alignment. Give your team the right frameworks and tools so they can build personal brands that support the company narrative without going off-script.

(5) My biggest concern

If LinkedIn builds native AI content generation, where you can write and publish without ever leaving the platform, long-form written content is finished.

People already use ChatGPT to draft posts. But if LinkedIn makes it one-click? The feed becomes unreadable. We're already seeing this problem; native AI tools would accelerate it dramatically.

(6) The opportunity has never been bigger

Here's the ironic part: because 98% of LinkedIn is now AI slop, it's never been easier to stand out.

Be authentic. Show up as yourself. Make mistakes. Let people see you're human, literally, through video and in-person content.

The bar is low. Clear it.
