Jerry’s mission is to help people realize their full potential by turning perceptions of what people consider weaknesses into fuel to ultimately empower and enrich their lives. Through his background as a Masters in Biomedical Engineering he endeavors to find optimal and efficient systems to maximize human performance.

He has pursued his journey in personal development more than 7 years, specializing in human behavior psychology, is trained as a Demartini Facilitator and currently completing his Postgraduate Diploma in Coaching through SACAP.

Jerry is not one to express his achievements with words, rather by the measurable outcomes demonstrated by the various breakthroughs and testimonials of his clients.

Jerry Sam

Working in the Data Science team that sits within Retail Product Development.
Team is cross functional and works across multiple business units, including but not limited to: investment insights, client experience, venture capital, operations, compliance (AML), distribution, and research & product development.

Responsibilities:

Enhance the data science capability within the organization by developing solutions using machine learning and analytics that augment current business processes.

Data Scientist: Product Development

Worked in Institutional IT Middle Office domain.

Responsibilities:

•	Understand, define, and develop EDM solutions that satisfy project requirements and operational change requests using tools such as Markit EDM and T-SQL.
•	Analyze requirements and distill into technical specifications and artifacts
•	Break down, refine, and estimate individual work items / user stories from specifications
•	Critically review, debug, diagnose and fix / apply changes within the existing application
•	Apply EDM best practices and solutions
•	Liaise and engage with EDM managed services / professional services team where required
•	Occasional second-line application support of market data scrubbing and overnight batch processes (rotational)

EDM Developer: Institutional IT (Middle Office)

Worked in Institutional IT Fund Operations domain.

Responsibilities:

•	Understand, define, and develop EDM solutions that satisfy project requirements and operational change requests using tools such as Markit EDM and T-SQL.
•	Analyze requirements and distill into technical specifications and artifacts
•	Break down, refine, and estimate individual work items / user stories from specifications
•	Critically review, debug, diagnose and fix / apply changes within the existing application
•	Apply EDM best practices and solutions
•	Liaise and engage with EDM managed services / professional services team where required

•	Developed reports in SSRS meeting business user requirements

Junior EDM Developer: Institutional IT (Fund Operations)

•	Team member in the Institutional IT Operations space, ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of all Institutional systems
•	Protect the integrity of highly sensitive financial systems to facilitate continued system availability and accuracy.

Graduate Program: Institutional IT (IT Ops)

University of Cape Town

Tutoring second year information systems undergrads on database principles (INF2007F), systems development project (INF2011S), and business intelligence & analytics (INF2006F). Duties include marking, answering queries, invigilating tests/exams, etc.

Undergraduate Tutor

As a data scientist at Allan Gray, the largest privately owned asset manager in Africa, I develop solutions using machine learning and analytics that augment current business processes across multiple domains, such as investment insights, operations, compliance, research & development, client experience, and venture capital. I leverage my previous experience as an EDM developer in the same company, where I worked on projects involving market data, fund operations, and middle office systems, using tools such as Markit EDM and T-SQL.

I am also pursuing a full-time MPhil in Data Science at the University of Cape Town, where I apply advanced statistical and computational techniques to solve real-world problems and generate insights from data. I have a strong academic background in information systems and economics, with an Honours degree from UCT and a Bachelors degree from Rhodes University. I am curious about the world of digital assets and passionate about writing and journalism. My goal is to use my skills and knowledge to create value and impact in the financial services industry and beyond.
