A video circulating online shows a robot stepping in as a shelving unit began tipping toward a young girl. The #robot moved into position, helping block the fall just long enough for adults to pull the child away—prompting many to claim the robot rescued her.

According to the company, the robot wasn’t programmed for rescue behavior. Why it reacted at that moment is still unclear.

Imagine effortlessly creating custom designs exactly where you need them-whether to improve accessibility or add a playful touch to your space. That’s the idea behind MobiPrint.

Developed by researchers at Jon Froehlich’s Makeability Lab at the University of Washington, MobiPrint is a mobile 3D printer that maps a room using LIDAR and prints objects directly onto the floor.

Here’s how it works:
1. The robot scans and maps the indoor space autonomously.
2. A custom design tool converts the map into an interactive CAD canvas, allowing users to edit and position models in the real world.
3. MobiPrint then prints the design directly onto the floor at the chosen location.
