I’m starting to see signs of life again in tech hiring.

Funding picked up in the back half of last year, and more founders are quietly talking about adding headcount in 2026. But one thing is very different from the last cycle:

The bar is higher.

Leaders know they cannot afford “seat fillers” anymore. They need people who can own outcomes, plug into an AI enabled world, and actually move the business forward.

Before you open your next key revenue role this year, I’d challenge you to answer three questions:

 1. What exactly do we need this person to fix or build in the next 12 to 18 months?

 2. Are we trying to create net new pipeline, fix a broken motion, or scale what is already working?

 3. Twelve months from now, what will tell us this hire was absolutely the right one?
