A MarTech scaleup with a financial services client ecosystem.

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

With a hard EU exit deadline, nearly 40% UK critical national infrastructure covered by Europe needed to be transitioned to the UK. That was both clone and go and cultural transformation.

My core role was to ensure that all the programmes and projects remained on-track. One key responsibility towards this was to run the escalation and strategy centre. 

Frequent functional reporting to and working with the Secretary of State. 

Scope covered security, , supply chain, FMCG, marine, fisheries, environment, chemicals and agriculture programes and projects.

Thomas Cook Group plc

Against a backdrop of challengng geo-political trading conditions, Thomas Cook PLC was driving cost reduction and EBIT improvement.  Security had been devolved and the security team was disparate, operating in various areas of the  Business. 

In partnership with the Group Business and IT Director, I successfully and rapidly met the role's key performance objectives which were: a) Re-establish the Office of the CISO and b) Turnaround the information  security improvement programme. 

I also delivered upon my own suggested objective which was c) identify innovative quantitative cost benefits for the improvement programme and security operations.  These savings would have reduced technology's BAU run-costs by circa £1M coming from 3rd party desktop auditing/support.  

KPIs included: Increased security maturity by x points against the Gartner Best in Class/Industry measures, Reduced projected risk by circa x% and reduced technology annual run costs

Lloyd's Register

Lloyd's Register maintains offices globally and was constantly under threat, particularly in the Korean shipbuilding region where its integrity and reputation as an ICS assurance body, for example, had to be maintained.

My role was to gain board-level approval for, and initiate, the Tech, Cyber and OT security improvement programme.  This addressed the fundamental need to be iron clad in this engineering assurance and industrial controls system-reliant marketplace both externally and internally.

Projected Outcomes within a year:
• Significant risk reduction in key markets such as North Korea where Intellectual Property theft was rife
• Improved software specification, which gave the business the tools they needed
• Better system integrity which gave better, mission-critical reliability
• Effective installation, meaning no superfluous support calls and no frustrated user
• Operational ROI would be a projected saving of circa 5% of the previous trading year.

A Gartner sanity check of the programme assured that clear performance KPIs set were robust and would evidence this performance.

Working with the Group CIO, key outcomes were as follows:

1.	Established the office of the CISO so security could operate effectively managing risk
2.	Defined the strategy and TOM so QBE would have a 3 year plan and spend appropriately 
3.	Normalised their cyber security risk state and hence lowered risk to realistic and desirable levels
4.	Ensured dregulatory compliance with the FSA and PRA
5.	Maintained operational integrity and stability

Met and exceeded all objectives of the brief an example was that I created a substantial potential new revenue stream by initiating a programme to categorise big data i.e. providing the ability to sell the huge amount of collected anonymised data to third parties.
