Today I planned two new Web3 CMO Stories episodes at Pavilhão Carlos Lopes for #CCCCLisbon2025.

It is one of the most beautiful venues in Lisbon. I was also here earlier this year for NFC Summit and MEMECON, and it always has the same mix of history, energy and good conversations.

Just wrapped my 10th Web Summit. And on Tuesday I tried something new.
I dropped three copies of 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝘾𝙈𝙊 around the venue.
A small guerrilla experiment… just to see what would happen.

Yesterday, I received a message from Lina:
“I think I found your book.”

Today, we met in person and took this photo.

She told me how she discovered the book, why she decided to message me, and how a simple yellow sticky note turned a random moment into a real connection.

I also got to meet her husband Karolis, founder of AnotherPay (he also turned out to be active in the Web3 niche). Another awesome conversation, and another unexpected link in this huge Web Summit maze.

And honestly… this is why I love this event.
Not the big stages.
Not the hype.
But the serendipity.
A book hidden on Tuesday.
A message on Wednesday.
A great conversation on Thursday.
One book found.

While I was doing follow-up for my Sintra Synergies retreat, I noticed my book 'The Future CMO' had been included in a recommended reading list for marketers.

Why now ... and what's next? This is a matter of perfect timing. I was ready to shed some business activities, and I found a new owner who will take this show to new heights, beginning in January. I am so proud of the show and the rabid fans who tune in. I am certain the future of The Marketing Companion is bright.

Nearly every week, I receive a DM with an offer like, "Have you ever thought about writing a book?" If all you did was glance at my profile, you could tell I've written a book. I am weary of these lazy, automated approaches. First time you do it, your connection to me is removed. 

Treat me like a human being please. Put in at least minimal effort.

Is your CEO the story-teller-in-chief?

While most CEOs hold a degree in business, finance, or engineering, as I observe the best leaders today, they are also amazing storytellers, and that can be a significant advantage.

Case in point, Jensen Huang of Nvidia. An amazing rags-to-riches story and incredible leader, Jensen's chief strength might be his ability to dazzle the right audience with the right story at the right time.

About six months ago, President Trump said he had never heard of Nvidia (the most valuable company in the world). When he learned of the company's market dominance, he threatened to break up the company.

But then Jensen paid a visit. Within a few days, the U.S. Commerce Department began issuing licenses allowing Nvidia to export certain AI chips to China—a strategic moment for the company’s market access. New doors opened in the UAE, and Trump formed a revenue-generating alliance with the CEO. Jensen then embarked on a tour of Europe, effectively convincing heads of state that their nations needed to develop sovereign AI capabilities.

The power of story!

Trivia time: Nvidia's biggest competitor is AMD. Who is their CEO? That's what I thought.

Other storytelling leaders include Howard Schultz of Starbucks, Satya Nadella of Microsoft, Richard Branson of Virgin, and Mary Barra of General Motors. Maybe the greatest of all? Steve Jobs.

It occurs to me that in the always-on social media age, storytelling is probably an under-appreciated competitive advantage for today's leaders.
