The recent decision to restore billions in federal #MentalHealth and substance use grants was the right thing to do, and it was a life-saving measure.

Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young people ages 10-34. Yet more than $1.9 billion in Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grants were initially terminated across 2,800+ programs — including suicide prevention, youth mental health, and community recovery services. Within hours, organizations were preparing for layoffs and closures. 

While the reversal was welcome news, the brief cancellation of essential funding exposed just how fragile our nation’s mental health infrastructure truly is, and how quickly lives can be put at risk. Communities across the country depend on these investments to keep counseling centers open, retain clinicians, and provide vital prevention and recovery services. Restoring this funding prevented immediate disruption for thousands of providers and millions of people, including youth, who rely on them.

At The Jed Foundation (JED), we know that prevention, early intervention, and strong community-based systems work. Now we must ensure stronger guardrails to protect the urgent mental health needs of all Americans.

As a content writer, I write engaging and thought-provoking blog pieces pertaining to the sales/marketing world. Within this role, I work closely with the Founder as well as Senior Recruitment Executive.

A graduate of Syracuse University where I earned a Bachelor of Arts in English, a minor in Psychology and Women and Gender Studies. During my undergraduate years, I served as the President of a mental health organization, Active Minds and the External Philanthropy Chair with Delta Phi Epsilon. 

In my free time, I volunteer for organizations such as Special Olympics and the NJ Chapter of The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. As a creative writer, I have managed a poetry site and Instagram account for years. Recently, two original poems of mine were published in literary magazines. I also have a Wordpress blog and worked for two years as a freelance writer for a variety of organizations including Captivate Talent, Mental Health Affairs, WordAgents, DennyWrites, and Cubo Ai amongst others. 

Upon graduating, I worked as an intern on the Communications team at Active Minds, Inc. where I wrote blog pieces, created social content, and engaged in social outreach amongst more. Furthermore, I worked with Active Minds, Inc. as a Tour Coordinator for their award-winning suicide prevention display, Send Silence Packing. 

Currently, I am working as the PR Coordinator for The Jed Foundation (JED) which works to protect the emotional health of teens and young adults and prevent suicide. In this role, I assist in public relations campaigns to expose JED’s brand, monitor media mentions, write external and internal documents such as press releases, social media posts, fact sheets, and pitch media stories across local, regional, and national outlets.
