Some of the most important relationships I’ve built started on nights I was exhausted, annoyed, and two seconds away from canceling. 

But every time I force myself to go anyway, I never regretted it.

I’ve been thinking a lot about events lately. 

Not the hype or the content, but the actual ROI.

Because let’s be real:
Events can be expensive. They break your routine, and often times initially you walk out wondering if it was worth it.

And yet… I keep going.
And going.

Just this year, I’ve hit SXSW, CES, Money20/20, Blueprint: The Future of Real Estate, Israel Tech Week, POSSIBLE, and a few more across Israel and the U.S.

And that does not include all the local happy hours, meetups, dinners, etc. (writing this makes it sound exhausting).

Some were incredible. 

Some were fun, but not 100% the best use of time. 

But I uniformly enjoyed the experiences, and all of them taught me something.

Here’s the honest truth about why I go, and why I think events still matter:

1. You need to get out of the house.
There’s a reset that happens when you’re around people you actually like. Being around “good people” always energizes a part of you that Zoom never will.

2. You always meet someone new.
Not every conversation turns into a client, but every event widens your surface area for luck. And you meet people you wouldn’t meet otherwise.

3. Events are content engines.
If you’re thoughtful, you can walk out with 2–3 weeks of material: insights, conversations, profile posts, short videos, and hooks that end up outperforming your normal content.

4. You leave with new ideas.
Even if the sessions are mid, the serendipity never is. So many of the actually good ideas I’ve executed against came from a brief conversation in a conference hallway or at a happy hour. 

So is the ROI unpredictable?
Yes.

Will the “value of events” conversation ever go away?
Probably not.

But if you’re intentional, (and not passive, waiting for people to come up to you), events can energize you, expand your network, and give you fuel to create.

That I believe is worth it.

Shutdown Thanksgiving? 

The cost of the shutdown is said to be about $15 Billion a week. That's lots of pain for lots of people and businesses. If and when the FAA reduces air traffic by 10%, that's going to make a tough situation way worse. 

Air traffic controllers not getting paid is awful, there has to be a way to figure this out without using the safety of the public as a negotiation tool and tactic.

And some losses and pain never goes away. People are going to make alternative plans, not just for travel.
