What are you doing with your connections?

I remember one of my conversations with my bestfriend where we were just talking about this great entrepreneurs and how they built meaningful connections that keep opening doors for their generations and we were just saying to ours that we pray our kids don’t ask us, “ mum when this people were building wealth and relationships, what were you doing?”

I mean it was just one of our funny conversations in school but I still don’t want to grow without creating a good footprint for my kids and anyone I engage with.

But that won’t just happen by itself, I need to solve a problem or problems with my skills, I need to build trust and grow meaningful relationships where we both help each other to the top. I need to be willing to know people, learn from them, and pour into them too.

Otedola and Dangote didn’t meet at opposite worlds, they were on similar paths to greatness and somehow found a way to stay together till now. We all see how supportive they are of each others family and it’s beautiful.

How would you create same footprint for yourself and kids if you keep staying indoor, cutting off every friend because you can live alone, or being transactional with everyone.

Everything doesn’t have to be hard or about you, be willing to meet and learn about people from different ages, walks of life and culture.

You never know what could come out of each encounter.

Creatives corner was one for the books and I look forward to attending more while preserving the memories, like this!

Do you find peace in what you’re currently doing?

I had a conversation with someone, and I asked, out of the context of our conversation—“When we all get married or move out of home, leaving just our parents together, do they feel happy and excited about having their space again, or do they really feel lonely?”

He said:

“I think they will definitely miss their kids, but find joy in their growth and the cycle of life. If it’s true love, they will live out their days enjoying each other’s company. If it’s not true love, the hollowness of their marriage, bound up over the years by the sheer responsibility of childbearing, becomes more evident.”

I found that to be so true, not only in marriage, but also in the choices we make in life (career, beliefs, business, etc.).

There’s a limited time for faking it or doing something you don’t love. After a while, it will wear off, and you’ll be left alone to face the consequences. Whether your decision was influenced by an influential elite or your own beliefs, you’ll be left to carry those consequences.

So, I hope what you’re doing really makes you happy. I hope it’s an intentional decision you made and are willing to commit to long term. I hope you’re living your own path and vision, not what you think society has created as a norm.

I hope your reason for starting that business or building a personal brand is not just because it’s popular? I mean when it doesn’t seem like it’s converting, or you see the boring part of it, will you blame others or see it as part of the process and another reason to experiment on better strategies?

Good things aren’t built on hype, they require commitment, purpose and openness to share without fear.

Your environment shapes your life whether you like it or not.

For some of us we try to change it by reading books, watching podcasts or stepping out to sharpen our skills and learn other peoples perspectives.

But I’ll tell you for a fact, your imagination of greatness or even excellence in your industry will change when you step out and see what others are doing. You’ll learn that what you’re doing is good but if you had the chance to compete on a global stage you might just be swept away.

You’ll also get some helpful tips to get you moving in the right path (some people are willing to share those industry secrets for free)

Now this isn’t to scare you or make you feel like you aren’t doing enough but to make you stay curious in life, that allows you to aim for more at every stage of your life.

Asides the creative benefits of attending events, your body also needs to move! 

So do it for your future self!

Be a man/woman of your words….

You’re just one person, limited by time and energy but you can actually do more by being transparent.

I know people want to make more money (we all do) so they run multiple projects but how about you pace yourself so you can deliver excellently in whatever project you engage in?

How about you state your availability and accurate time of delivery so that those who can wait will and those who can’t will find someone else to work with?

That might feel like a loss but it’s better than disappointing, that’s already a bad record that will take time to erase. So take the safer option, Maintain trust, Curate your schedule and Be honest.
And when you have the opportunity to delegate, Go for it!

You can be skilled but when people can’t depend on you, it reduces your reputation.
