Instead, people will see banks of cutting edge data centres used by some of the worlds largest companies for AI infrastructure. 

I had the pleasure of a tour around the former Unilever site acquired by Platformdc this morning, with my good friend, Neil Rustage. 

The skyline of Warrington is about to change and this building which was once part of Warrington’s manufacturing history is to be replaced with something that is going to put Warrington on the innovation map. 

I’m slightly envious of Neil and the opportunity he has to work on a project that has significant legacy potential. 

But I’m also grateful not to have the headaches he’s probably going to have with such an ambitious project including demolition, bureaucracy, conspiracy theorists (local news content commenters are a delight) and everything else in between. 

It’s an inspiring project that I’m looking forward to seeing progress along with the wider benefits to Warrington.

You don’t drink alcohol because you like it, 

You drink because you saw your parents drinking. You looked at adults and became aware you weren’t allowed it.

You drink it because you wanted to fit in when your friends started drinking in your teens. 

You then either went to uni and it became the norm or, you started work. Most industries have a bad drinking culture. 

Then life gets more complicated and stressful in your 20’s. Bills to pay, climbing the corporate ladder, talks of engagement and kids etc etc. 

You drink for different reasons and your priorities shift. It’s now become the done thing to drink after work/on a sunny day/when you feel stressed.

You start using language like “I need a drink” or “I deserve a drink, I’ve had a hard week”.

This leads to massive problems ranging from weight gain to your marriage falling apart. 

Sound familiar? This is roughly 90% of the people that come to me but they aren’t even aware where it began. Most people that I receive messages from want to stop drinking but they’re fearful. 

Will my friends disown me? 

Will I become boring? 

How will I deal with stress?

I can’t imagine having children and being hungover, 

This isn’t to judge. I’ve always been a sober parent and it just makes life so much more manageable. 

I have 2 kids under the age of 4. It’s challenging to say the least. 

Prepping everything, cleaning the house and organising meal times can seem like a military operation at times. 

Adding a hangover or brain fog to that seems unfathomable. 

If you want to take a break from alcohol, here is where I would start:

- Opt for alcohol free alternatives instead. That way, it doesn’t feel like you’re missing out on anything. 

- Avoid pubs and bars for a while. If you were trying to lose weight, you wouldn’t hang around in McDonald’s. 

- Channel your energy to something else. You will get so much time back when you’re not hungover. Get a new hobby, join a gym or running club etc. 

- Do it with a friend. Doing it alone can seem very lonely and having an accountability buddy will help massively.

Most business owners don’t realise the real cost of their lifestyle until it hits them in the face,

I spoke to a client recently who built a successful company from nothing.
Team of twenty.
Great money.
Beautiful house.
On paper, he had won.

But behind the scenes, his life was held together with duct tape.

He told me he could barely remember the last time he’d had a proper night’s sleep. He lived on caffeine, shortcuts and the hope that tomorrow he might somehow feel better.

His son stopped asking him to play because the answer was always "not now".
His wife started going to bed earlier because she was tired of waiting for him to switch off his laptop.
He noticed it all, but he didn’t know how to stop the momentum of who he had become.

The scary part is that he thought this was normal. That this was the cost of being a high performer.

Until one morning...he woke up, looked in the mirror and didn’t recognise the man staring back.
He saw the exhaustion, the weight gain, the tension in his jaw, the spark that had disappeared.
Not because he didn’t care, but because he’d spent years caring about everything except himself.

That was the moment he realised the truth. 
His business wasn’t the problem.
His habits were.

Once he started changing the way he operated, everything shifted.

He blocked time in his calendar for training and actually stuck to it.
He started eating like a man who gives a sh*t about his future.
He created boundaries around his phone so his family got the version of him they deserved.

He became intentional with his time instead of being a hostage to it.

Not because he worked more, but because he finally worked from a place of clarity instead of chaos.

Why Becoming a Sober Dad Is the Best Thing You’ll Ever Do for Your Family and Yourself

“I’m thankful for how you changed yourself to be a better Dad for me”

Someone chopping onions? 

This was a message from my client. 

He’s a VP of sales out in the US. 

He came to me like most men do. 

Successful by most people’s standards. The house, the car, the great lifestyle, supportive partner, 2 lovely kids but something was missing.

That missing piece? Identity and alignment. 

If you aren’t aligned with your success than you will always feel inadequate and unfulfilled. 

The first thing we looked at was sobriety and mindfulness. This gives you a level of clarity and awareness that is beyond comprehension. 

Once you become more aware you realise what an awful impact your drinking is having on your health, relationships and performance. 

For most of our clients this is enough of a motivator to remove alcohol completely. 

In the last 11 months he’s removed alcohol, meditated everyday, completed a triathlon, got promoted at work and healed problems that have held him back for decades. 

These results are amazing but not uncommon in our programe. 

His new identity? Super Dad, super husband, Ultra athlete, successful VP and overall nice guy.

I wore a mask for most of my life, 

I was called "Mayers" and "Big Ads". 

I spent most of my teens and twenties wearing a mask. I was just hoping that people would like me, so I went along with what I thought everyone wanted me to be. 

I went out every weekend because I didn’t know how to socialise without drugs or alcohol. 

Doing stupid sh*t on a regular basis to please others. 

Alcohol was a familiar crutch. I knew the pain involved in a hangover and hating myself. 

I got to the breaking point when I was living in Dubai, chasing the dream and hoping I would finally feel validated. I had the car, the watch, the great job and the Instagram lifestyle. 

Yet still I was miserable. So what do I do now? How do I fill this void? 

I began a meditation practice just to explore my curiosity around it. 

From there, I decided to take a break from alcohol. (That break has lasted almost 8 years) 

The clarity that meditation and sobriety brought me was something I didn’t think was physically possible. 

Since starting that journey, I have achieved the following; 

- Meditated every day for 8 years 
- Alcohol free for 7+ years
- Completed Marathons & Ultra Marathons 
- Got married and had 2 kids 
- Set up a business that has turned over 1.3 million

So while I’m still flawed and it hasn’t been the smoothest journey, I can assure that I have overcome my own hardships along the way and come out of the other side. 

It all started with awareness. As a starting point, ask yourself the following questions...

Am I fully fulfilled?
Am I present with my family?
Am I hitting my physical goals?
Am I happy in my career? 
Am I being the best version of myself?
What would need to happen for me to change? 

Holding up the mirror isn’t peaceful, but it will bring you peace.

You don’t need to be a better man. You need to be an honest one,


Maybe you’ve built success and ticked all the boxes. But deep down, you know something’s missing.

I was pretending to be happy and kept chasing more things in the hope it would validate me. 

I began meditating everyday and the clarity that gave me led to taking a break from alcohol. That break has lasted 7 years.

- Set up a multi 6 figure business
- Coached over 500 people 
- Had 2 beautiful children 
- Worked with pro athletes 
- The most peaceful I’ve ever been 

This all came from being sick of my own bull sh*t and taking action.

Before I became a dad, I quit drinking for me, for my mental health and because I was sick of it. 

Now, I stay sober for my kids. Parenting is fu*king hard. It’s the sleepless nights, the meltdowns (theirs and mine!). I honestly can’t imagine doing any of it hungover.

Because a hungover me would get irritated so easily, snap at them and feel anxious and ashamed. It’s already hard…why make it any harder by pouring fuel on the fire? 

Being a sober dad means I get to…

✅ Be fully present, even on the tough days. 
✅ Keep calm when they are tearing the house down  
✅ Wake up with a clear head and be grateful instead of feeling like sh*t and full of regret. 
✅ Model the kind of self-care I hope my sons will choose for themselves one day. 
✅ Remember the moments that matter the most.

I see parents struggling all the time. Not because they’re bad parents. But because they’re trying to do the hardest job in the world while pouring a depressant into their system most nights.
 If you’re a parent wondering whether drinking is still serving you, let me say this:

The best gift I’ve ever given my family is sobriety. And the best gift sobriety gave me was being the dad my kids deserve.

“I bet you’re really boring now because you don’t drink”, 

Well, it depends. 

Is waking up feeling fresh most days boring? 

Is being more present at family events boring?

Is saving thousands of pounds boring? 

Is having more energy and time to prioritise your health boring? 

I wouldn’t say so. 

You can always find a reason just painful enough not to take action. 

“Life is stressful at the moment, I’ll make changes when things slow down”

“Eating healthy meals is really expensive”

“I’ll stop drinking alcohol after Christmas”

It feels good to create these false narratives for yourself, as it means you get a justification for your behaviour. 

Nothing is boring about looking after your health and becoming a better version of yourself for you and your family. 

What is boring is waking up with another hangover, arguing with your spouse, sleeping like sh*t, and your kids not wanting to spend time with you.

Sobriety gives you so much and I wish more people knew about it,

I’m a millennial. There are many people I know my age and older that are set in their ways. 

Still going out and sinking 6-8 pints on a weekend and they’re over the age of 35. 

I just wish more people could realise the benefits of sobriety. There's so much more to life than being hungover for days and feeling like sh*t. 

“Bore off, nothing wrong with a few beers with the lads”

Perhaps not. But is it really helping you? When the bravado stops and you’re not surrounded by the pressure to be “jack the lad”.

How’s your career/business doing? 

“I drink and all of those areas of my life are fine”

Ok, but they could be EVEN better. Also, ask your family how it’s impacting them. Speak to your friends about your drinking. 

I couldn’t care less if you drink or not. But if you do remove it, it will change your life. 

- You’ll get more clarity 
- Your sleep improves 
- Your energy goes up
- You’ll be more present 
- You’ll save money 
- You’ll lose weight

Your family doesn’t need your money, they need you


“I do everything for my family”

Yet you get home after spending another 5 hours on a deal and now they’re in bed. 

“I would die for my kids”

Would you go sober and get healthy for them? 

Look, I get it. I’m not attacking you, I have a deep level of empathy for where you’re at and want to hold you to a higher standard. 

You’re holding back from being truly fulfilled due to the guilt you’re carrying around like a dead weight. 

You don’t feel worthy of happiness, so you start to sabotage it. You avoid the gym yet again. 

You promise yourself it’s the last glass of wine before reaching for a bottle. Again. 

You tell your kids you’ll play with them after work, but you don’t get home until 10 pm. Again. 

It’s exhausting, isn’t it? 

Just for a moment, picture the following:

- Your business still thrives but doesn’t demand every minute of your time. 
- Your partner has never been more drawn to you and wants to have sex with you. 
- Your kids are excited for you to get home. 
- You’re hitting fitness goals that you didn’t think would be possible after you turned 40. 
- You can sit with your thoughts and not feel anxious or dependent on alcohol to numb them.

Are you a FaceTime father? 


Sitting on your hotel bed after another painful day of pretending to like people in order to “win the deal”.

You tell everyone you do everything for your family before dialling in and hoping your partner answers so you can say goodnight to your kids via FaceTime again. 

The sinking feeling like you’re not doing enough. 

The guilt is real. 

The kids don’t want to say goodnight tonight. They want you there in person and they’re mad at you. 

You’re more mad at you than they could ever be. 

I get it. There are certain careers that mean you have to be away from home more than you would like. 

But this isn’t about you working away. This is about a much deeper issue. 

You not showing up when you’re actually at home. 

Ask yourself honestly; “am I present when I am at home?” 

What does being fully present mean? 

I can tell you what it’s not. 

Having your phone on the table but having it flipped upside down while it vibrates like a butt plug. 

Half listening to your kids while doing emails. 

Asking questions and not caring about the answer. 

Snapping at them at a minor inconvenience. 

Drinking alcohol to escape your thoughts because you’re miserable as f*ck.

Imagine a life where your kids run up to you when you walk through the door. 

Your partner can’t wait to have sex with you. 

Your career is still thriving. 

You’re smashing it in the gym. 

You have the confidence to put in boundaries at work. 

“You’re a dreamer Adam”

Nope.

Most men already know they need to change, 

The real question is who they trust to lead them through it.

A client closed a £1.25m deal and walked through his front door buzzing.
He thought he’d finally cracked it. He had no idea what was waiting for him.

His wife looked at him and said, "Your daughter asked me today if you even like her?"

He spent the last four months negotiating the deal.
The Late nights.
Trains down to London.
Strategy meetings.
Pressure.
Stress.
He gave all of himself to the business.

That same week, he spent about six minutes with his daughter. And this is where it hits high-achievers the hardest.

Because deep down, you know you are capable of more than this.

You’ll spend hours preparing for a board meeting. Yet you won’t spend three minutes asking your child about their day.

You’ll track revenue KPIs to the decimal. But you don’t know what your wife actually needs.

You’ll obsess over the next level at work. But avoid the hard conversations at home.

Then you sit there wondering why success feels hollow.

This client asked me, "Is it possible to feel accomplished in my personal life the way I do professionally?"

Of course it is. The skills are already there. You only use them in the place where you feel most competent.

The difference is that he decided to apply those strengths to his actual life, not just his business.

He hired me, and we built a plan.

He scheduled family time like board meetings and treated it as a Non-negotiable.
He asked his wife what she needed instead of guessing.
He learned what his kids cared about.
He showed up consistently.

Six months later, his daughter runs to the door when he gets home. He told me the buzz he felt watching her score a goal was bigger than closing that deal.

Most men say they are doing it for their family.
No mate. You’re doing it for yourself.

Your family doesn’t want the bigger house.
They want you. Present, grounded and connected.

So here is the choice:

Are you willing to apply the same intensity to the people who actually matter?
Or do you keep building empires while your family quietly falls apart?

Making positive changes means that everyone else around you benefits as well,

Our client (let’s call him Joe) came to use a few months ago with the following challenges. 

❌ Drinking most days due to low self esteem and wanting to escape his emotions. 

❌ Out of shape and making poor food choices due to poor time management and not organising his meals. 

❌ Not exercising due to a “lack of time”’when in reality his was wasting countless hours scrolling.  

❌ No boundaries at work led to being on his laptop until 9pm most nights. 

His self esteem was on the floor and something had to change as his relationship was strained, his boss was getting pissed off and he had never felt lower. 

In just 3 months he’s now achieved the following;

✅ Lost 8kg of fat (18lbs) and back in the gym 5 times a week
