In July 2024, a guy called Guy pitched me an idea.

A community for founders, business owners and exited entrepreneurs — with wellbeing at its core.

At the time, it landed perfectly.

I’d already started making some positive lifestyle changes personally. Training more. Looking after my head. Saying no to things that no longer served me.

At the same time, I was going through a big professional shift.
I’d started SocialTap with the support of three experienced entrepreneurs, but I’d decided it was time to buy them out and go it alone.

Both of those decisions created gaps.

My lifestyle changes created a void in my social circle.
The buyout created a gap in terms of professional support.

I’d been to plenty of “traditional” networking events before.
If I’m honest, I hated them. They always felt like something I should do as a business owner, not something I wanted to do.

Function turned out to be exactly what I needed — at exactly the right time.

A carefully curated group of like-minded people.
All founders, business owners or exited founders.

If you’re currently exploring Meta as a new marketing channel, one of the first questions you’ll be asking is:

“How much budget do I actually need to start?”

The honest answer?
It’s less about daily spend and more about how quickly you can get through the learning phase.

Meta needs data.
You need data.
And that only really starts to become meaningful once you’re hitting ~50 conversions in a short period of time. 

That volume gives:

You enough performance signal to judge what’s working
Meta enough signal to optimise delivery properly

Where it gets tricky is high-ticket businesses. It may be easy to get 50 leads in a week, but what about 50 converted sales?

Meta doesn’t reward impatience.
It rewards clear economics, good signals, and enough data to learn.

When Meta ads get expensive, most people fix the wrong thing.

Rising costs aren’t random — they’re a signal that something in the system has changed.

But instead of diagnosing that change, most advertisers panic and start “doing stuff”:

👉 resetting campaigns
👉 blaming the algorithm

The reality? There are only a handful of things that usually drive cost inflation:
• Seasonality
• Ad fatigue
• Slower landing pages

Here’s to the wonderful women I’ve worked with who take girl power to a whole other level.

Over my career so far, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of working with women who aren’t afraid to take up space, speak their minds, and simply get things done.

The kind of women who say what needs to be said.
Who back themselves.
And who make work a whole lot more fun in the process.

From clients, to colleagues, to mentors - some of the most impressive people I’ve worked with have been women.

And I feel very lucky to be building my career in an era where being a “girl boss” doesn’t mean hiding our softness.

It means embracing our kindness, our emotions, our confidence and still absolutely owning the room.

We’ve hired a lot of new people over the last few weeks at Kurogo

And it’s been a really exciting time for us.

For me personally, stepping into a more senior role has meant being more involved in onboarding. And it’s been so much fun to see how people integrate into the Kurogo way of doing things. 

The best part about our new hires is that they don’t just nod along.

They ask why.
They question things.
They suggest changes.
They bring completely different lenses to conversations we’ve been having for months. 

And I’ve loved being in a position where I can receive those questions, and sometimes have my own thinking challenged by them.

That, to me, is the sign of a great hire.

Not someone who slots in quietly.
But someone who cares enough to think critically.

Based on the incredible people we’ve brought in recently, here are a few thoughts on how to start a new job well:

1. Don’t be scared to mess up.
The best new joiners are the ones who just go for it. Trying > waiting for perfection.

2. Be genuinely interested in people.
Join the team calls. Ask questions. Get to know your colleagues properly. Being good at your job matters. Being good to work with matters just as much.

3. Challenge respectfully.
You might be wrong. That’s fine. A fresh perspective is valuable, even when it doesn’t change the outcome.

4. Take initiative.
If you spot a gap and think you can help fill it, do it. Don’t wait to be told.

Agency life isn’t corporate life.
The people who thrive here aren’t the ones who want to blend in.

They’re the ones who want to build, improve, question and make things better.

I’m really excited to see what this next chapter looks like and even more excited to see our new joiners grow into their roles.

The guy who copied your homework in uni is getting better opportunities than you.

Not because he’s smarter. Not because he’s more experienced. Not because he knows more than you.

He’s just louder.

Personal branding can be full of fake gurus posing with authority.
But unfortanately some of them are still getting the stages. 

The inbound leads.
The introductions.
The partnerships.

Meanwhile, the people who actually know what they’re doing...
Silent.

We love to complain about noise online. But your real biggest enemy is silence.

You don’t need to become a caricature.
You don’t need rented Lamborghinis or “10x your revenue” claims.

But if you have expertise and you’re not sharing it…
You’re making it harder for the right people to find you.

Opportunities don’t just go to the best.
They go to the best-known.

And that part you can control.

I hate hustle culture.

The glorification of 5am alarms.
The “no days off” mentality.
The way burnout gets framed as ambition.

But I also don’t fully buy into the opposite narrative.

The idea of only doing exactly what was asked of you.
The “just manifest it.”
The belief that doing the bare minimum is enough.

The truth is that it does take work.
Not chaotic, performative, look-at-me hustle.

But focused effort.
 
Consistency.
Doing the boring bits.
Having uncomfortable conversations.
Saying yes before you feel fully ready.

I don’t think we need to glamorise exhaustion. But I also don’t think we should pretend momentum happens without intention.

Everyone talks about being a high performer.
Fewer people talk about being reliable.

Not the loudest person in the room.
Not the most “visionary.”
Not the one with the most ideas.

Just… reliable.

The person who:

Shows up prepared.
Sends the follow-up.
Delivers when they said they would.
Flags issues early instead of hiding them.
Does the small, boring things consistently well.

In every team I’ve worked in, the people I trust most aren’t necessarily the most charismatic. 

They’re the ones who make life easier for the whole team. 

The ones I don’t have to chase.
The ones who don’t need micromanaging.
The ones who take ownership without being asked.

Reliability isn’t flashy, and you often don’t get applause for it.

But it compounds.

Over time, it builds trust. And trust is what gets you bigger opportunities, harder projects, and more responsibility.

Not because you asked for it.
Because people know you won’t drop the ball.

Talent is great.
Ambition is great.

But if I had to choose one trait in a teammate, it would be reliability.

I have never worked an office job, and I probably never will.

No commute.
No unplanned interruptions. 
And the ability to structure my day around when I actually work best.

But it can start to feel like you live at work… instead of working from home.

The lines blur. 
Your laptop is always right there. 
And suddenly it’s 7:30pm and you’ve been in the same chair since breakfast.

After a five years of working remotely, here are the three things that have helped me keep my sanity.

1. Create fake “commutes”

One of the biggest hidden benefits of commuting is the mental transition it creates.

Without it, your brain never really clocks on or off. 

So, I create a short ritual before and after work.

- Morning walk
- Coffee run
- Quick tidy of my space
- Changing into work clothes (even if it’s still comfy)

It gives my brain a clear signal: work has started.
And at the end of the day, I do something similar to mark that it’s finished.

2. Leave the house at least once a day

Remote work can turn into accidental isolation if you’re not careful.

Even if you love your own company, you still need a change of scenery.

Go work from a café for an hour.
Take a walk at lunch.
Run an errand.

Anything that breaks the cycle of: bed → desk → couch → repeat.

3. Protect your “off” time like it’s a meeting

When your office is your home, it’s very easy to keep checking Slack, emails, or “just finishing one more thing.”

But remote work only stays great if you set clear boundaries.

Close the laptop. 
Log out of work apps. 
Turn off the notifications.

Treat the end of the workday like you would if you were physically leaving an office.

Remote work gives you a lot of freedom.
But the trick is learning how to use that freedom well, rather than letting it take over your whole life. 

What’s the one habit that’s helped you stay sane while working remotely?

554 days ago, I joined Kurogo - Personal Branding Agency.

Here are a few things I’ve learned after 554 days inside a personal branding agency:

1. Expertise isn’t the problem for most founders

Almost every client we work with is deeply experienced.

Years of building companies.
Running teams.
Solving complex problems.

But none of that matters if nobody sees it.
Visibility is the missing layer for a lot of very capable people.

2. Consistency beats brilliance.

The posts that perform best are rarely the most “perfect.”

They’re the ones that:

- share a clear perspective
- come from real experience
- show up consistently

Momentum compounds faster than perfection, and you never really know who's watching. 

3. Personal branding is less about ego than people think.

The best founders we work with don’t post to “build a following.”

They post because they want to:

- attract the right clients
- hire great people
- share what they’re learning as they build

The audience growth is just a side effect.

4. The hardest part is pressing publish.

Everyone overthinks their first few posts.

What if it sounds stupid?
What if nobody engages?
What if people judge me?

In reality, most people are too busy thinking about their own posts.

But my biggest realisation after 554 days is that a lot of very smart people are invisible online.

Not because they lack expertise.
Because they’re waiting until their thoughts are perfect before sharing them.

And they're missing out on loads of opportunities because of it.

A lot of founders are confused about why growth suddenly feels harder.

The playbook changed.

Cold outreach gets ignored.
Ads keep getting more expensive.
And buyers take a lot longer to make decisions.

Meanwhile you’ll often see competitors doing better than you… even when their product isn’t as good.

What’s actually happening is that people don’t buy the way they used to.

The old model was simple:

You ran an ad.
Someone clicked.
They bought.

Now people do their homework first.

They look you up.
Check your LinkedIn.
Scroll through your posts.
Ask someone in their network.
Watch how you think.

Sometimes for months.

Which means the people who win today are the ones who build credibility before the sales conversation ever happens.
