Growing up with a Mom that only had one lung taught me a lot about what real adversity was.

Although we didn’t have much, our Mom showed us love and taught us how to be kind & empathetic.

I’ve had 4 pivotal moments in my life:

1. Getting stung by 53 Bees in 4th grade.

2. Being beaten and falsely arrested by police at 12.

3. Surviving a high speed accident and getting 52 staples on both legs at 19.

4. Making the decision to leave a 15 year career to be a full time entrepreneur.

The last one happened today, the day I’m writing this new bio.

I’ve experienced some adversity in my life like most of us, but I still don’t feel that I’ve faced adversity yet, knowing what my Mom went through in her short 54 years on this planet.

Less than two years ago when I started creating content on LinkedIn, everything changed. 

I started to realize that I can make a difference in people’s lives by helping them see things they don’t see in themselves.

Truly making a positive impact and having people walk away different then when they met you is so humbling and a true honor.

For a long time, I thought success was mostly about accumulating.

More influence.

You’ve mastered the strategy. But have you mastered yourself?

It’s one thing to lead a company, scale a portfolio, or make bold moves in business.

It’s another to lead your own mind.

You can have the calendar dialed in, the goals on the wall, and the team aligned—
But if your inner game is a mess?

You’ll keep self-sabotaging.
You’ll chase success but feel hollow inside.
You’ll burn out and wonder why none of it feels like enough.

I’ve seen this over and over—in myself and in the high-performers I coach.

Mastering the inner game means taking responsibility for your thoughts, your energy, your focus.

It means facing the stories that no longer serve you, and choosing better ones.

It’s not always easy—but it’s the work that makes everything else sustainable.

Because once your internal world is aligned, the external results follow.

And they actually feel good.

For most of my life, I optimized for winning.

Assets. Titles. Boards. Optionality.

By my early 30s, I had been a partner at an investment firm, sat on multiple boards, some north of a billion dollars, and had the ability to step away early. I later built and sold a startup that did very well.

On paper, it was the outcome people chase.

But here’s the part we don’t talk about enough:

Winning doesn’t automatically bring peace.
Progress doesn’t guarantee fulfillment.
And momentum can quietly replace meaning.

That realization changed the direction of my work.

Today, I spend most of my time working with elite investors, hedge fund and private equity founders, unicorn tech CEOs, Olympic athletes, and senior political leaders.

Not because they lack intelligence, ambition, or discipline — but because they carry outsized leverage.

These are the people allocating billions, writing policy, shaping culture, and making decisions that ripple far beyond their own lives.

If the people pulling the levers aren’t self-aware, grounded, and clear on their values, the downstream impact matters — for everyone.

Mindset work isn’t soft.
It’s foundational.

Because when you increase self-awareness, you expand perspective.
When perspective expands, decisions improve.
And when decisions improve at the top, the effects compound outward.

That’s why I do this work.

Not to help people win more — but to help them lead, decide, and live better.

For a long time, I thought my accomplishments were my identity.

Being “the investor” felt like the finish line.
Wealth.
The lifestyle.
The external markers of success everyone recognizes.

Then life took that identity away from me—fast.

Over a decade ago, I was fired from Paul Allen’s fund.

And while things eventually worked out financially after a long legal battle, the psychological impact was much harder to unwind.

When the title disappears, the question gets uncomfortable very quickly:

Who am I without it?

I didn’t have a roadmap for that moment.
No role model showing how to rebuild when your identity collapses overnight.

What I did have was a choice.

I could cling to old patterns that no longer fit…
or I could let them go and start asking better questions.

That period forced me to strip away beliefs that were no longer serving me — about success, worth, and purpose.

It pushed me to stop optimizing for status and start searching for meaning.

That search changed everything.

Today, the work I care most about is helping others navigate that same transition — from achievement-driven identities to something deeper, steadier, and more intentional.

I’m grateful for the detours.
Even the painful ones.

They led me here.

The hardest part of growth isn’t starting. It’s letting go.

Most people think the challenge is becoming someone new.
I don’t agree.

The real friction comes from releasing the version of yourself that worked.

The identity that built the company.
The habits that got you respected.
The pace that made you feel relevant.

Letting go of that version can feel risky — even irresponsible — because it’s familiar. It’s proven. It kept you safe.

But here’s the paradox I see over and over again with high performers:

The very identity that created your success is often the one quietly limiting what’s next.

At the beginning of the year, it’s tempting to add goals.
More output. More ambition. More doing.

But sometimes the most important work isn’t adding — it’s subtracting.

Releasing outdated patterns.
Questioning default behaviors.
Admitting that the next chapter might require a different version of you.

Starting over sounds dramatic.
Letting go is quieter — and usually harder.

Because it forces an honest question:
Am I willing to outgrow what once defined me?

Something worth sitting with as the year begins.
