Nine years ago I was the guy who was too shy to speak to people at networking events. Even when I did pluck up the courage, it felt all people valued was my job title or my budget rather than me as a person.

I knew I wanted to meet other marketers and learn about marketing in a safe space, so when I couldn't find it, I made it.

The Marketing Meetup is a positively lovely community for marketers. (Basically, we all look after each other and treat one another as people first 😊)

Through good luck and hard work, in the years since, I (as part of a big team effort!) have built a global community of 50,000+ lovely marketers with a social following of 250k+.

I was responsible for creating brand awareness and lead generation for this Telecoms and IT company with a B2B audience.

My main achievements were the increase in brand awareness (and subsequent leads) through engagement on their social media channels (set up from scratch) and creating, managing and hosting 2 monthly business networking events (Quorn Business Networking & Nottingham Business Networking, which are still attracting delegates today).

I was also responsible for the following:

• Generation of marketing plan to meet the company objectives.
• Raising company profile through social media, hosting of networking events, email marketing and PR.
• Design and content creation for mailshot campaigns, newsletters and various marketing collateral for different target markets.
• Social Media Management (Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook) - Content Strategy, Creation, Engagement Management and Measuring Analytics.
• Website Content Management including Blogging & Search Engine Optimisation (SEO).
• Organisation and hosting of business networking events and exhibitions.

Marketing Manager

• Management of multiple cabling infrastructure and telephone system installations for new store and existing store refits for Next Plc. and New Look Retailers.   
• Full project management from marking up store plans, calculating and sending tenders, creating job tickets for engineers, management of the installation on site and handover.   
• High attention to detail required for marking up plans to ensure critical equipment is not missed and the tenders are accurate. 
• Daily liaison with suppliers, contractors and retail project managers to ensure all parties understand what is required and by when.   
• Ability to liaise with internal departments and external parties effectively to ensure tasks are performed and completed on time.   
• Effectively communicating any changes to the installation to all the relevant internal and external parties quickly and effectively.   
• Evaluating actual job costing against tenders to ensure jobs have been completed on time and on budget.

This business was set up when Facebook was just starting to be used from a business point of view and as a "selling" platform. 

Main responsibilities were:

• Management of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest profiles, which included content creation, social media advertising and measuring vital statistics.
• Website management
• Design of bespoke orders based on the client's requirements and keeping them informed throughout their customer journey.
• Time management  - ensure consumers receive orders within the specified time frame
• Customer satisfaction - my number one priority is to ensure the customer is happy at all times which has created brand loyalty and recommendations through word of mouth referrals.
