At the fund I consulted for other VC funds or companies, helping to do in-depth analysis on investments. This includes doing detailed research into the respective markets of each company, the management team, and service/product offered.     

On average teams of five people analyze investment potential of different companies, if the investment passes the qualificaitons of the team, they are then pitched by the team, first to fellow associates, then if passed, to an Investment Committee

Over a decade ago I walked into a small, unknown company. 

"We need someone who can just help us make more money. It'll be you and some engineers. Go ship whatever will make us more money. A/B tests, new features, paywalls, whatever. Just find money in the business."

I found out later, much later, that bets were placed around the company. Nobody bet we'd still be a team by the end of that year (it was February).

Well, we had a goal of $1M of cash to the business that year. A >20% increase in revenue...

We did that in the first quarter. From there, the rest is history.

Six years later, that business was well past $100M in ARR and I was about leave for my next startup adventure.

Fast forward to today, and I've discovered a powerful growth secret that most founders are still sleeping on.

Instead of using a recent story, I'll tell you another one:

About 18 months ago, I had a woman 15 years my senior who made sure to tell me her accolades, who she worked for, and how amazing she was tell me...

"your business will be small compared to ours, we're building a $9-10M/year business".

Fast forward, that business no longer exists. 

Why? Because she built something that wasn't validated, didn't test, and was aiming for dreams and not reality. 

And maybe just maybe, because karma is a bitch. 

Treat others how you want to be treated. 

We have so little opportunity already in this ecosystem, don't make it worse.

I help female founders grow their tech startups

24 hours after this photo was taken, my sweet Anna collapsed in my arms and was emergency ventilated. 

I have lots of mamas with littles that follow me, and it would be a disservice if I didn't use my platform to educate on RSV symptoms. 

We're in the season, and I wouldn't wish the pain we experienced on my worst enemy. Be safe out there. 

Here is the exact timeline and symptom evolution which led to 8 days on a ventilator and 14 days in the hospital:

😖 Secretions of the mouth:
I woke up at 4am on Sunday to see Anna bubbling in the mouth with secretions. It was so thick that it wouldn't drip down her face, but instead sat at the top of her mouth until it was suctioned out.

😴 Extreme lethargy/tiredness:
Anna woke at the usual time 7-8 am but the entire day was spent sleeping on my shoulder with just enough energy to eat. 

😷 Wet cough -
She developed an extremely wet cough that she was unable to clear on her own. Compare it to adults, when we cough up mucus, and it gets caught in our throats. This was happening to her, except she couldn't get it out and therefore would struggle to breathe.

😶 Loss of appetite:
Anna ate normally until late that evening when her exhaustion took over her body, and she wouldn't wake from hunger like normal.

😤 Worker breathing:
We took videos of her when she was lying flat. She seemed content, but her belly was moving very fast and sucking into her ribs. These are called retractions and can occur in the rib cage, diaphragm, or throat. She presented early symptoms in her ribs.

🤒 Fever:
Before bed, around 8pm I took her temperature for safety. She temped at 100.6

If your child is under 60 days and temps 100.4 or above, they must go to the ER for a full workup. If Anna didn't have a temp, we would be in a dire situation the next day at home. I'm thankful for that reading.

These signs led us to an ER admission and a false positive for Flu B. Another blessing is that if she were negative (didn't test for RSV there), she would have been sent home.

Monday-Wednesday was highly stressful as we went from regular oxygen to high flow, to BiPAP, to intubation in just 48 hours.

Now how do you avoid this in this insane season of RSV?

👉🏻 Do not let people kiss your baby. Not even on the head. 
👉🏻 Limit who is holding your baby. Keep it to the parents only if you can.
👉🏻 Wash your hands frequently. Like every couple of hours. 
👉🏻 Avoid siblings kissing and touching (this was our downfall). 
👉🏻 Cover your mouth if coughing and wash your hands after.
👉🏻 Clean your pacifiers frequently. 

Months after our experience, a vaccine was introduced for infants. Do your research and protect those babies.

5 years ago, women accounted for 29% of startups created.

Last year? 49%.

FORTY NINE PERCENT. 

That's 69% growth in 5 years, and there's literally no stopping us. 

Today is Women's Entrepreneurship Day.

I'm sitting at a coffee shop, checking in to tell you how amazing it is to get your ass away from the computer and into rooms of people who are innovating. 

I hate calling it "networking" so I won't say it.

The founder behind one of my favorite brands is fighting to get her company back.
