Hiya!  I'm Jennie Holyoake and I'm The Financial Storyteller. 

I help growing and established businesses unlock the stories in their accounts. 

When you grow your business, it can be hard to know what to do next. 

You have all the ideas, but with only gut feel to go on, it can seem risky and out of control. 

I work with business owners to understand the story they've written so far, and then we use that to write the next chapter. 

So they can make decisions with clarity and confidence, using facts instead of gut feel. 

No fear that it was the wrong decision. 

No missed opportunities because the risk seemed too big. 

Just decisive action to write the business they've always wanted. 

In my previous life, I spent far more years than I care to acknowledge working in corporate businesses.

My job was to use my knowledge and experience as an AAT and CIMA qualified accountant to partner senior managers and directors.

I supplied them with the KPI's and financial insights they needed to make good quality business decisions.

And now I'm bringing that to owner-managed businesses, who don't have a full team of number geeks on their side.

Christmas break is for jigsaw puzzles! 🧩

Finally managed to get the time to complete my first ever 2000 piece jigsaw. 

It didn't take me as long as I'd expected. 

It was actually the third* jigsaw I've done since we broke up in Dec.

I didn't take a pic of the first one but the rainbow Lego minifigs needed to be recorded.

My friends know me so well.

I've also built a Lego orchid.**

But you know what I haven't done?

Work.

And it's been glorious. 

You could say that this was training for work though. 

Sorting.

Spotting patterns.

Taking the time to understand how the small details fit into the big picture. 

I actually think that jigsaws and Lego should be part of accountancy qualifications. 😂

And now I'm ready to get stuck in with the numbery stuff again.

Yesterday I was full of energy to start back! 

Today and my second 6am alarm in a row... now I'm feeling sluggish. 

I did have something to look forward to this week. 

I had a number clarity session booked in. 🎉🎉

But we've had to move it. So now I've got a big hole in my schedule. 😭😭

Obviously reclaiming a day is always a bonus..

But I was really looking forward to hitting this month at pace of sadness getting stuck into something juicy! 

We're going to look at pricing strategy, and run through a few scenarios to support growth. So my client will have a more solid plan for the next few months.

At least we still get to do it later in the month. 

So if anyone fancies some last minute number geekery... I'm free this week. 😂😂

What do you do when plans change? Take the time to catch up? Or do something for yourself?

Sometimes it would be great to have someone by your side, so you're not doing this business-ing thing on your own. 

That's where a financial Business Partner comes in. 

Business Partnering was a big chunk of my corporate career.

No, it’s not mixing business and pleasure.  Office romances have their place but that’s not what I’m talking about.

And I'm not gonna expect shares. 😂

It’s basically a number geek who works alongside someone else in the business; usually someone who has a responsibility for a budget.

I’d do the numbers, they’d do the doing. We both did what we were best at.

Nobody is good at all the things.  

If you’re currently running a business wearing a gazillion hats and just waiting for it all to fall down, I feel ya.

A lot of us start our own business because we are just done with that corporate stuff.  

But we can learn from those corporate beasts. 

Because they know that one person isn’t great at everything. So they split up the responsibility where people need specialist knowledge and experience.

It’s funny because if we had to go to court, we wouldn’t think twice about finding a solicitor. 

But when it comes to accounts? We just seem to think we can figure it out.
