I build relationships with the community, who are equally passionate about giving children opportunities to succeed. Although we're known for providing food, one of my favorite projects was giving kids a fresh pair of sneakers at Christmas. Kids who have experienced poverty carry a lot of shame around that. Those sneakers weren't just an article of clothing - they gave these kids the opportunity to go to school with self-confidence and participate fully in their education.

I had the privilege of serving as their first fundraiser! I also helped develop the business plan for their CHESS and Homeshare OC programs. Homeshare got funding from the Social Innovation Fund; it's a unique program to Orange County. It bridges the gap between college students and seniors to provide affordable housing. The CHESS program is centered around providing housing to college students.

OC Rescue Mission helps individuals transition out of the streets and into homes. As a grant writer, I got to develop relationships with foundations and funders to support our mission. I'll never forget bringing a funder to our program for men with substance use disorder and mental health diagnoses. The funders had a family connection to this work and a beautiful relationship formed from there.

We gave children experiencing homelessness the tools they needed to end the cycle of homelessness, one child at a time. I fast-tracked my fundraising experience here by planning our annual Anti-Gala (which raised double the amount raised in the previous year).

 Created a strategic plan for fundraising which included policies and procedures for fundraising, donor relations and stewardship, gift acceptance and acknowledgement and volunteer management and travel
 Planned, organized, and supervised international trips of up to 12 volunteers, including management of the budget and itinerary and leading pre-trip orientation meetings
 Implemented and maintained Neon CRM to organize the database of donor contact information, gift history and communications
 Developed and executed a donor communications plan, which includes the implementation of Constant Contact for e-newsletters, direct mail, email and other contact points
 Created and executed a donor stewardship communications plan for gift acknowledgments, project updates, annual tax receipt/letters and direct mail appeal letters
 Manage and monitor the budget, including review of monthly project financial statements and reports
 Organize special events for donors; prepare and deliver appeal presentations at each event
 Create and design content for the organization’s website and social media platforms 
 Redesigned the donor support and gift processing pages of the organization's website
 Designed and implemented a year-end appeal plan which included direct mail, email, phone calls and donor visits
 Created a new donor sponsorship program for the seven health centers served by the PB+J program

The Nkhoma Hospital PB+J Program

 Created and implemented a strategic plan for fundraising for the PB+J Foods Inc. project in Malawi, Africa, including development of infrastructure, human resources, quality control, and supplier relationships
 Researched, documented and communicated trends and technical requirements in the ready-to- use therapeutic food (RUTF) industry
 Designed and managed a fully-functional RUTF production facility in compliance with international food safety guidelines, the Malawi Bureau of Standards Regulations and the CODEX International Standards
 Hired, trained and managed a staff of 10 program employees and up to 2 international volunteers
 Attended the UNICEF RUTF pre-bid supplier meeting in Copenhagen, Denmark
 Assisted with the request for proposal to become a potential sanctioned RUTF supplier for UNICEF
 Managed the cash spending and budget of the program
 Liaisoned with government officials in the Malawi Ministry of Health to coordinate efficient and effective distribution of the RUTF product

What’s the biggest issue that stops nonprofits from raising more money? Leaders, fundraisers, and board members work so hard, but it’s often separately - without a unified goal, plan, or direction. 

Fundraising teams can’t scale or succeed when they’re disconnected from the mission and each other. And if internal teams aren’t aligned, how can we expect our donors and supporters to feel part of our work? 

I work with nonprofits to nurture and retain their donors while helping teams connect more deeply with each other. Through fundraising and Emotional Connection (EmC) training and comprehensive fund development strategy, I help nonprofits raise more money and deepen their capacity for transformational relationships. 

Personally, from founding a nonprofit organization in Malawi to being a part of larger development teams in California – I’ve experienced a wide range of nonprofit set ups. 

While I’m grateful for the incredible moments, I also experienced an array of factors that led to burnout. I’m personally committed to helping nonprofits do things differently as a consultant and coach. 

❌ As a new front-line fundraiser, I was expected to hit a monetary goal but there were no systems in place to nurture donors and build long-term relationships.  

Instead, what if every donor felt connected so that fundraising felt transformational (not transactional?)

❌ As a nonprofit leader, I developed campaign materials but couldn’t always get clear direction from other departments on our greatest needs. 

Instead, what if your team was unified around your nonprofit’s goals and service areas? 

❌ As a board member, I wanted to share my perspective but was met with “this is how we’ve always done it.”

Instead, what if all of your board members felt seen, heard, and started to contribute in a deeper way? 

Change is always possible, but it starts with self-reflection and understanding how we want to show up in the world: as organizations AND as leaders. 

After working together, my clients raise more year over year, get 100% of their board to fundraise (for the first time), and see ongoing staff engagement and satisfaction.
