I’ve been applying to jobs for 5+ years.

It’s so disheartening and has left me doubting myself more times than I’d like to admit.

I know I’m not the only one in this situation. 

I’ve tried so hard and have had no success.

It’s time to change things up. 

I’m working on ideas for my own online creative business, which I’m really excited (and SO nervous!) about, but I’m still hoping to find a WFH role alongside - as I know success doesn’t happen overnight.

So I’m reaching out, with a polite ask to my network: If anyone knows any legitimate, creative small company or similar that could use some part time (paid) remote help (admin, organisation, creative support, social media, content creation help etc.) 

I’d love the chance to be considered.

You’ve been hired after unemployment! 

First of all, congratulations. 

I sincerely hope you’ll be happy in your new role. 

But please don’t feel guilty. 

You deserve to be happy just as much as those in the middle of their job hunt. 

You feel bad because there’s many who have been jobless for far longer.

This shows you have empathy, kindness and compassion: qualities of an amazing employee.

How it feels to be a job seeker: 2k+ job applications later… 


I know I’m not the only one, but the truth is, as a job seeker of 5+ years I’m exhausted from spending hours upon hours: 

• filling in applications-never hearing back. 

• looking for jobs to apply to-only to be rejected.

• getting hopes up when interviewed-to be told 2 weeks later by email they hired someone else. 

It honestly seems like no matter what I do, this job market is against me. 

I’ve spent a long time over the past 5 years applying for all sorts of jobs but since some months ago my perspective changed: I will now only apply for or reach out to the companies I’d actually like or love to work for. 

You may think I’m being too picky, but applying for 1000s of roles (many of which I probably would have been unhappy in after a while) hasn’t helped either. 

And if you think I should “just take any job” have you tried getting ‘any’ job these days? 

This is not your average job market. 

It’s literally like trying to cross a chocolate bridge in a heatwave - because I never seem to make it to the other side (opposite) of unemployed anymore. 

I’ve tried so hard over the past 5+ years. Now I’m reaching a point where I’m really, really worried. 

I cannot go on having £0 coming in. 

I’ve been searching for a WFH part or full time position, in which I am treated with respect. 

The only one I’ve been offered so far, (this was in 2022) is one that had pages of reviews online about how badly staff are bullied. (So I said thanks, but no thanks and explained why.) 

I was bullied in primary school, secondary school, college and some (not all, luckily) jobs I’ve had so far. 

I don’t care what the “take any job” crowd say: I know I deserve better than that. 

I’ve been politely reaching out to places I would like to work with and they’ve been so kind in their replies, but I’m still in this situation currently.

I understand not everywhere can just take on new people if there are no positions open but I don’t know what to do anymore and am really worried about everything.

I was trying to have a job in place alongside starting my own online business but it’s looking like that won’t be possible… 

Who rekons I should start my own thing anyway? 

I rarely post here asking for help for myself, usually I’m posting to try and help others, but I can’t carry on being in this predicament.

1,903 days ago: I was made redundant from my full time job of 3+ years, due to the pandemic.

Since then I’ve:

- sent 2k+ applications.
- completed interviews for about 5%.
- been ignored or rejected from about 95%.

I literally don’t know what to do anymore. 

I spent agges looking at job websites again earlier and applying - for roles I’m extremely unlikely to actually get. 

I’m looking for an admin or creative wfh position that I’d be able to do alongside starting my own online business.

These are REAL posts, written by real people. 

This cannot carry on. 

Far too many are being forced to:

- start a gofundme.
- become homeless.
- use food banks. 

And it’s not their fault…

They’ve been applying. 

They did everything they were expected to do. 

School, then college, maybe uni, and got a ‘safe’ job… 

Then POOF. 

Job disappeared. 

Sometimes overnight. 

Maybe without any warning…

Now, they have no choice but to post and hope that someone can help them. 

They’re down on their luck. 

No income after layoffs, redundancy, or they lost their job because of ‘company restructuring.’

Right now, so many are struggling. 

If you see a post from someone asking for help, obviously use common sense and be wary of scams but also, please understand that behind many of these posts, are real people…trying to make ends meet again. 

Not every post asking for help is a scam. 

Please don’t judge people. 

There might come a day when you need to ask for help too. 

This job market is insane. 

Let’s help each other as much as we can.

In this role, I created a holistic people strategy and created an HR function from scratch for U.S. offices with ~65 employees and managed a $5.3 million annual operations budget for the U.S. division of a global shipping corporation that is headquartered in Singapore with offices in Tokyo, Dubai, Shanghai, Busan, London, Copenhagen, Rotterdam, Stamford, Houston, and Bogotá. 

I became certified in Master Person Analysis through Master Danmark to analyze candidate work methods and preferences when hiring in-house and used data from this system to create staff development plans and construct teams.

I was integrally involved with consolidating the U.S. offices into one unified team, and providing feedback, advice, and coaching to ensure employee success. I directed HR activities across the entire employee lifecycle, including recruiting top talent, conducting interviews, negotiating job offers, onboarding new hires, driving performance, managing the separation process, and facilitating exit interviews to glean insights to improve employee satisfaction and retention.

Key Contributions:
• Achieved 22% increase in employee engagement by creating an atmosphere where employees felt accepted and appreciated for the work they performed.
• Improved staff satisfaction with company culture. Greater employee engagement resulted in 19% increase in annual revenue. Median employee tenure was 8 years.
