Let's talk about fails I made in the last 10+ years working in B2B sales

Honestly I've made a lot of mistakes

Some were painful, some embarrassing, and some ended up being the best lessons of my career.

I’m talking about it - not to glorify failure - but to show the real side of growth, leadership and performance. Because sometimes, one good mistake teaches us more than ten good wins.

Here are the 2 fails I made in my career (and there were many more 🤪): 

1. One of the biggest and most common was overpromising to clients.
You know that feeling when you are trying to impress a client by saying “yes” to everything he wants or expects… and then watching delivery struggle, deadlines slip, and trust drop.

My takeway was that the right thing is setting realistic expectations to the clients, not heroic ones. Even the bad news is better than hiding or overpromising.

2. Managing people the way I preferred, not the way they needed.
I was actually copy-pasting my own work style onto my team instead of understanding individual strengths, motivations and communication styles.

Takeaway was absolutely that one-size-fits-all leadership fits no one.
Each team member (or a client) needs to have individual communication approach.

This post was inspired by yesterday's event Fuckup Nights Ljubljana where we heard some honest life & business fails. And we all learnt from them.
Kudos to Matjaž Kljajič & the team for bringing up these brave stories.

Fails in our business or career life are something that cannot be avoid

By my opinion, they are necessary for our growth and improvements
Like I said many times before - fails are our greatest teacher

But what matters is that when we fail, we have supportive people behind our back. People who will elevate us again and bring our mission back on track

The worst feeling ever is when you are left out alone

I grew up doing team sport 🏀
So I exactly know how important is always to have a team behind you, especially when the things get hard

The same applies to business

So glad that we have business community like Fuckup Nights Ljubljana where sharing fails openly brings no prejudice. Only support.

Procrastination not only cost me results in career & business 

But also opportunities I didn't dare to face

For a long time I was thinking that procrastination is a consequence of lazyness.

But it's not.
It's about avoiding things that could actually move us forward in life. 

Procrastination was quietly stealing my personal & business opportunities:
- Comfort zone instead of progression
- Waiting for the perfect moment
- Fear of being judged by others
- Fear of failure
- Overwhelmed

It didn't make me ineffective. 
But invisible.

And then I said enough. 
I started using different approaches:

1. I take at least one small step on a task/projexts first to overcome “resistance”. And to make things moving further - action beats everything

2. I set the deadlines to I avoid being overwhelmed and stressed 

3. I set priorities in my daily schedule - and stick to them
