Netflix is acquiring Warner Bros, including HBO and HBO MAX streaming services for $72 billion.

Is this a good or bad thing for Netflix' future?

I like it for 3 reasons:

1. Netflix is in dire need of new content - FAST. Last few months I've been feeling like there's almost zero new content on Netflix every week. It used to launch new movies every weekend and had a lot more new shows, too, every year.

2. Netflix may not be able to hire fast enough relevant staff to make great new content, and Warner Bros' studios may be able to kickstart a new wave of new movies and shows for Netflix in the next few years.

3. Netflix can now more directly compete against Disney/Marvel by owning a big portion of DC Universe IP. We may see the next Batman movie launch in theaters and on Netflix's streaming service at the same time in the future.

But in order for this last part to make sense, they need to adopt Amazon's Prime Video monetization model, which is a win for them and for its users, as I've mentioned in the past.

Overall, this seems like a huge win for Netflix, but it still depends on how well they leverage the IP and know-how of Warner Bros in the next few years. If they don't do a good job with that, this may end up just being a very expensive failed merger, just like many other company mergers in the past.
