Video production

My first big-scale video experience was as a copywriter on Cottonelle toilet paper. 

The campaign was called "The Roll Poll" and it asked America to vote on the ultimate bathroom debate: should toilet paper roll over or under?

(People have VERY strong opinions about this, btw.)

I scripted 8 videos for the campaign, each featuring a different character (a plumber, a bowler, a cat lady, a scientist...) who had very specific reasons for their preference and encouraged others to vote their way.

Casting. Week-long shoot. 8 different sets. Sound, lighting, the whole shebang.

When it was over, I got to sit in on the edit to find just the right takes, insert sound effects at just the right moment, and make final approvals.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂:
→ You learn to see the big picture while managing a million moving parts.
→ You get comfortable with projects that 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭 chaotic but you know will come together.
→ You develop this weird confidence where you can say "don't worry, I can see the end" and actually mean it.

Once you've done it a few times, this new outlook transfers to everything else.

Big launches. Website redesigns. Campaign rollouts. Whatever.

You start to recognize which details to sweat and which ones to let go.

You know the power of making good decisions early on—and how quickly bad ones can spider out and affect the end product.

It's not something every marketer gets to experience.

But if you have the chance? Take it.

It will level you up in ways that are hard to articulate but impossible to miss.
