I co-founded Hardhat with childhood buddy Dan Monheit at the 'dawn of digital' in 2005. Today, it has become one of Australia's most-loved creative agencies with a 40-strong team of thinkers and makers led by respected communications experts in the fields of behavioural economics, strategy, creativity, UX and craft.

Claude Code and Lovable have made custom landing page design more important than ever.

I'm starting to see posts from founders saying "I built this in 4 hours... would've paid someone $5k+ for this."

Some are even saying "web design is dead".

For a lot of people... building it yourself with AI is the right move.

If you're early stage, testing an idea, getting a V1 out the door... it's perfect.

But to build real authority and become the market leader... you need more.

Most AI-only built sites have the same telltale signs.

And only look a little better than a Squarespace template.

To make it truly look custom still takes a lot of hours.

Feeding references, going back-and-forth on positioning and brand.

If you have that kind of time available... I get why you might not pay someone to do it.

But now that anyone can spin up a landing page in minutes...

There's more choice, conversion rates go down and the bar raises.

A regular site doesn't cut it anymore.

You need positioning that creates a wedge in your market...

Insights from 100s of paid ads campaigns and split tests.

Something so distinctive it makes people go "who made this?"

So yeah... I agree it's the end of web designers.

Web designers who charge a premium for a template-level site.

But the work the true pros are doing with these tools is only getting better and more valuable.

We got to work on something pretty cool recently...

Simplebooklet just became one of a select few Canva publishing partners.

Meaning 220 million Canva users can now turn their designs into interactive flipbooks... straight from inside Canva.

Our part in the launch was designing the landing page for the Canva integration.

A launch this size brings a tonne of new eyes to your site... and most of them have never heard of you.

We wanted to capitalise on that.

So we built a page stacked with direct response copy and persuasion principles...

But that still feels like a well-designed page that could win an Awww award.

Because software buyers decide if your product is any good based on the landing page experience.

Stoked to see it live.
