It smooths out the unpredictable, catches what teams miss, and builds reliable checks into every stage of development.

They start as juniors we hire.

Lately, I have noticed a troubling pattern in tech.
Fewer juniors are being hired.
And that means fewer seniors in the future.

Companies are optimizing for short-term efficiency.
Hiring only experienced engineers who already know how to leverage AI.
Cutting entry-level roles to save costs.

But here is something we are overlooking.

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝗷𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿.

→ Without juniors, there is no one to grow into mid-levels.
→ Without mid-levels, there will be no seniors to lead and mentor.
→ Without seniors, there will be no leaders to drive innovation.

We can tackle this challenge with a smarter plan.

→ Reinvest in junior hiring, even if training takes effort.
→ Build structured mentorship programs that make guidance measurable.
→ Train juniors in AI tools early so they can close productivity gaps.
→ Plan workforce growth around internal promotions, not just external hires.
→ Match recognition and pay to skill advancement to retain talent.

As leaders, the question is not if we can afford to invest in juniors,

→ What once monitored health now infers emotion.
→ What once served users now shapes product decisions.

And this shift is already here, devices learning more than people realise, with almost no friction in how that data flows.

This isn’t just new hardware.
It’s a new layer of intelligence operating quietly in the background.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸.

The same insights that improve wellbeing
can also drive targeted marketing.
The same alerts that prevent incidents
can also influence personnel decisions.

Two outcomes.
One system.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝘂𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲.

→ Incentives still favour broad data use.
→ Periodic checks miss real-time shifts.
→ Closed models limit outside visibility.

Audits reveal issues.
It doesn’t steer direction.

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱.

Not to slow progress,
but to make sure it moves in the right direction.

→ Ban covert scoring and silent repurposing.
→ Make consent clear, simple, and revocable.
→ Build independent oversight that creates accountability.

These aren’t barriers.
These are guardrails that let innovation scale with trust.

With the right boundaries, the same intelligence that worries us
can become the intelligence that protects us.

Safer workplaces.
Smarter wellbeing systems.
Better experiences.
Real transparency.

It’s confusion at its best.

I once believed AI would reward those who could “prompt like pros”.
But rather it’s how to think with AI, not just how to instruct it.

As AI becomes part of everyday work, knowing every model or feature doesn’t help much.
It’s like trying to master every shortcut in a tool you barely use.

What works instead:

→ Ask better questions before you ask for output.
→ Start with a small task you already do.
→ Use one or two tools consistently.
→ Automate one repetitive task that eats up your time.

In practice, the real AI advantage isn’t technical mastery.
It’s using AI to free up time for what only we can do.

The future won’t reward those who fear AI.
It will reward those who work with it.

Lately, managers are the next target for “AI replacement”.

The argument is simple.

→ AI is fast.
→ It can do routine work many times faster.
→ It can clean up the low‑value noise everyone hates.

But speed is not leadership.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗔𝗜 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹

→ Tracks, schedules, distributes and monitors.
→ Automates follow‑ups and reporting.
→ Handles the predictable and repetitive.

These are the parts of management that never needed judgment,
Only consistency, volume and time.

𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲.

The other half is why managers matter:

→ Reading a room.
→ Sensing hesitation in a meeting.
→ Weighing hard trade‑offs.
→ Mentoring someone through doubt.
→ Owning the outcome when things go wrong.

AI can plan but it can’t care.
It can process but it can’t judge.
It can execute but it can’t lead.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗱

→ Let AI absorb the routine.
→ Strengthen team oversight where judgment matters.
→ Protect managers who build teams, not spreadsheets.
→ Remove layers that only existed for reporting.

The future isn’t about removing managers.

Until debugging becomes guesswork.

In the last few months, I have heard a new phrase echo across developer circles,  𝗩𝗶𝗯𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴.

It is what happens when developers lean on AI to write most of their code.
Trial and error. Copy and paste. Celebrate when it runs.
But skip the part where they truly understand why it works.

I have seen this first-hand in teams.
Code that functions perfectly in a demo
yet no one can explain how to fix it when it breaks.

The problem is:

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗯𝗼𝘅, 𝘀𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸.

→ Debugging turns into guesswork.
→ Security flaws slip through unnoticed.
→ Software grows brittle and hard to maintain.
→ Craftsmanship gives way to shortcuts and misplaced confidence.

To address this:

→ Review and understand AI-generated code before adoption.
→ Treat vibe coding as a learning aid, not a crutch.
→ Build review loops that go beyond “it works.”
→ Keep coding standards, audits, and documentation non-negotiable.
→ AI is a collaborator, not a replacement for skill.

𝗔𝗜 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗹𝗹, 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗲𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝘁.

As individuals, we must ask ourselves,
𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗼𝗿 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀?

𝗔𝗜 𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗻’𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝟭𝟬𝘅.
It made it 10x easier to fake development.

It used to be,
You wrote the code, you understood the code.

Now it’s,
You approved the code, you own the code.

Velocity went up.
Understanding quietly went down.

Most teams don’t notice, until production does.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗔𝗜 𝘃𝘀. 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘀.
It’s speed vs. understanding.

AI is great at removing friction.

→ Boilerplate disappears.
→ Patterns show up instantly.
→ PRs move faster than ever.

That’s good.

But understanding doesn’t grow just because output does.
And systems don’t fail at compile time.
They fail at midnight, under load.

Smart teams use AI as an accelerator, not as the author.

→ Write tests assuming incidents will happen.
→ In reviews, ask “can we explain this?” not only “does it pass?”.
→ Treat ownership as knowing how things fail, not just how they work on a good day.
→ Reward debugging and deletion, not just shipping more code.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗔𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲.
𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗱𝗲 𝗻𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀.

Great teams don’t choose between speed and understanding.
They make understanding the reason they can safely go fast.
