1. The more you create, the happier you are:

On the days I'm sharing my creations, my mood is incredibly elevated. There's nothing better than learning something and sharing it with other people.

2. The more you consume, the more pessimistic you become:

Whenever I go down a rabbit hole on LinkedIn or X, I get bummed out. Culture wars, fighting, lack of empathy for our fellow humans. It's gross.

3. The longer you write, the better at your craft you become:

If you write every single day for a long time, you will eventually become a relatively decent writer. And there's no better way to communicate your thoughts.

4. The more you outsource creative work to AI, the dumber you become:

The more AI does your creative work, the more you forget how to be creative and original. You sound like everyone else. You blend in. You're not interesting.

TL;DR:

1. Create daily
2. Consume less
3. Write until you're good
4. Don't outsource creative

Maybe nobody in your family is an entrepreneur.

Nobody in mine is.

From when I was a kid, the path was always laid out:

Get a degree, get a job, stay for 40 years, and retire.

They're not being mean or disinterested.

They just don't have a frame of reference for what you're describing.

I've found that to be a big advantage, actually.

The people who grew up around entrepreneurs usually inherited someone else's playbook.

They work through a set of assumptions about what a business should look like. 

How much funding to raise. 
How hard it's supposed to feel.
How many employees you need. 

Maybe you don't carry any of that baggage.

You get to start with a blank page. 

You don't have to live up to anyone else's expectations about how big your business should be, or how fast it should grow, or what success is supposed to look like.

The first person in any family to do something different has one thing nobody else has: 

The freedom to define their life and business from absolute scratch.

You just have to be willing to figure it out without a map.

The richest people I know aren't multi-millionaires.

They're people with empty calendars.

They hardly have any meetings. 
They don't have Slack on their computer. 
Sunday night is just like Thursday night...

No dread.

They designed their businesses primarily for peace of mind.

Everyone else is on autopilot, doing the exact opposite.

More clients.
More projects.
More revenue.
More complexity.

And every time they add more, they get less of what actually matters in life.

I know because I did this for a long time. I took a startup from $0 to $70M and nearly destroyed myself in the process.

So when I built my own business, I designed it around one question: What do I want my average weekday to look like?

Here's how I approached it (and how you can too):

1. Set your "enough" number. 

Not your dream number. 
The one where money stops being a daily worry. 
Build to that and don't go beyond it.

2. Work backwards from your ideal day. 

What time do you stop working? 
How many meetings do you have? 
When do you exercise, eat, read, hang with fam? 
If the model doesn't fit the life, change the model.

3. Subtract before you add. 

Every new project costs you your time. 
Before adding, ask "what does this take away from?" 
If it takes away something important, don't add it.

4. Automate earning money. 

Your sales page, your emails, your delivery. 
Everything should be automated. 
If you have to be "on" 24/7, it's not a business.

5. Protect empty time like it's revenue.

The white space on your calendar is yours.
It's where your best decisions happen. 
Fill it, and everything gets worse.

Save this post and revisit it often. 

It's the difference between building something that makes you money and building something that makes you absolutely miserable.

Living well comes down to 5 things.

Here's my personal take on it:

1. Help people: 
A life of service gives you purpose.

2. Get healthy: 
Nothing matters unless you're in good health.

3. Love your family: 
A close-knit circle warms life incredibly.

4. Build cool $h*t: 
The best vehicle that lets you achieve this.

5. Travel the world: 
Learn how others live so you can relate.

(and of course, for each person, there are other additions)

Things not on this list:

1. Working weekends.
2. Climbing the corporate ladder.
3. Chasing the most money possible.
4. Working to impress people you don't even like.

The crazy part is that most people spend 90% of their time on the second list.

Then they wonder why they feel empty when they "win" that game.

Here's what I've learned building my business:

The more I subtract, the more I can focus on the first list.

Fewer projects to manage.
Fewer obligations on my calendar.
Fewer things that pull me away from what matters.

You don't need more. 
You need less of the wrong stuff.

Protect the five. 
Ignore the rest.

The older I get, the more I realize how much work can screw up your health.

- Awful boss

Take your life into your own hands.

A lot of the people who get promoted before you aren't necessarily better employees.

They're just a lot louder.

That's one of the truths about how the world works that most folks don't want to accept.

The best person doesn't always win.
The most visible person wins.

That's inside your company, in your industry, online, and basically everywhere.

You think these "top voices" are top at what they do?

Absolutely not. 
They are the loudest. 
And they get paid because of it.

So if you're sitting around thinking, "My work will speak for itself..."

It doesn't and never will. 

The people with the most attention, the best opportunities, landing all of the high-dollar clients are the loudest, not the most talented.

They put themselves out there unapologetically.

If you don't know how to do that, follow this simple framework and see what happens over the next 30-60 days:

1. Stop sharing what you know.

Instead, start talking about what you've solved.

Share a framework, talk about a client who had a problem that you fixed.

Toot your horn and tell the world! That stuff gets saved.

2. Comment on 5 posts a day from people in your industry. 

Don't write "Great!" Go out there and have conversations. Maybe challenge someone or provide a contrarian take. Get into it. Have fun. Use respect, but show your expertise.

3. Use the "before and after" format. 

Start with an incredibly messy scenario and how you cleaned it up. Take people behind-the-scenes and show them how a real expert gets the problem solved. Show the end result.

4. Say the thing everyone in your industry is thinking but nobody's posting. 

Most people are too afraid to go out there and actually say that thing. So, say it. Don't be afraid to ruffle a few feathers. For every person who gets irritated, 10 more will look at your profile and wonder how you can help.

Just remember that the person charging 5x more than you isn't doing better work, they're just 5x more visible, 5x louder, and 5x more confident.

They just decided to speak up.

They got over the cringe of being public.

They started acting like they belonged in the conversation.

You just get used to it.

You realize that staying invisible is a choice with consequences.

I’m the provider now. And I fought that identity for years.

No one explicitly said someone would take care of me but growing up, that was the model I absorbed. All the women in my family were stay-at-home moms. If you worked, it was optional. Not essential.

I was thrust into the breadwinning role when we found ourselves in six-figure business debt. Since I earned more in my corporate job, it made practical sense for me to cover the bills.

This new identity felt heavy. I missed the version of me who didn’t have to carry the answers, solve the problems, or hold the responsibility.

Becoming the provider meant the buck stopped with me. Having the people I love most depend on me felt overwhelming at first. Over time, though, something shifted.

I became more creative. More resourceful. More resilient. I saw how much more capable I was than I had believed.

That shift didn’t start with strategy. It started with identity, and the stories I was telling myself about who I was now.

The turning point came after yet another sleepless night replaying how unfair everything felt, how alone I was, how no one was stepping up.

I didn’t know how things would change. I just knew I was done living from that story.

That decision to change how I saw myself set off a series of choices that slowly changed the trajectory of my life, my peace of mind, and my happiness.

Sometimes stability doesn’t come from circumstances changing. It comes from who we decide to be inside them.

For Women Who Are the Primary Financial Provider | Financial Resilience

After 30+ years in HR, I can tell you, layoffs don’t break people. Loss of identity does.

Financial resilience protects your identity, not just your income.

For most of my life, I played the 'good employee':
- follow the rules
- work hard
- be reliable
- don’t cause trouble

I believed if I performed well enough, I would be secure.

Then I retracted a resignation and was told no.

'You have to go'.

In one conversation, I went from valued to replaceable.

It wasn’t just income I lost. It was certainty. Identity. And, control.

Objectively, we were financially stable. But as the sole provider at the time, I spiraled.

Not because we were going to starve. But because my sense of security was tied to a role.

That’s when I understood that you can do everything “right” financially and still lose composure when income shifts.

Budgeting didn’t fix that.
Investing didn’t fix that.
More income wouldn’t have fixed that.

Because the real issue wasn’t strategy. It was how I responded under pressure.

That’s the work. Not becoming wealthier.

Becoming composed enough to stay strategic, when money or status changes.

If you’ve ever looked successful on paper but felt internally unstable when income shifted, you’re not irrational.

You’re untrained for that moment. And that’s trainable.

'Wish you get rich!' That’s what many of us will hear today if we celebrate Lunar New Year. It’s the literal meaning behind Gong Xi Fa Cai, wishing prosperity and abundance.

And most of us quietly believe:
If I just had more money, everything would feel better.

I used to think financial abundance meant never running out of money in my bank account.

If that happened, I thought I’d finally feel free.

But no matter how much more I made, it never felt secure.
Was it lifestyle creep?
Overspending?
Inflation?

So I did what high-performing women do. I learned more.

I read the books.
Tracked every dollar.
Listened to the podcasts.
Negotiated for higher pay.
Even became a certified Financial Education Instructor.

And still…

I felt like I was one layoff away from losing everything.

That’s when I realized that this wasn’t a knowledge problem. It was an internal one.

I had strengthened the external layer like income, savings, strategy. But I hadn’t strengthened the internal layer.

The part that decides:
What does this mean?
Am I safe?
Can I recover?

Once I learned to steady my reactions and change the stories I told myself about money, everything shifted.

Financial security isn’t just about what’s in your bank account. It’s about how steady you feel when the numbers change.

This Lunar New Year, instead of only wishing for prosperity, I’m wishing you something deeper:

Financial resilience.
The ability to stay steady even when circumstances shift.

For years, I believed my side business had to work. Not because I hated my job. And not because I didn’t enjoy entrepreneurship. I actually do.

But after our café failed when both my husband and I quit our jobs and ended up in six-figure debt, something changed.

I realized how much I valued a regular salary:
- the predictability
- the monthly relief
- the stability it brought to our family

Letting go of that security again felt terrifying. So I built my business while holding onto my job.

And quietly, I told myself:

“When the business replaces my salary, I’ll finally feel free.”

I wanted to:
– send my kids to university anywhere in the world
– work from anywhere, anytime
– not feel financially tied to a 9–5

Recently, I realized I still wasn’t building from vision. I was building from fear.

Fear that my job wasn’t enough, and that one income shock would lead to financial instability.

For a long time, I thought the solution was replacing my salary.

Now I've realized that the real shift wasn’t replacing income. It was strengthening the belief that even if things changed, I’d be okay.

So now:
- I still build my business
- I still want flexibility
- I still have goals

But I no longer believe my business has to save me. That relief changed everything.

I have two university-bound kids and need to raise about $700,000 for the schools they want to attend. 

There was a time when that number would have terrified me.

I would have lost sleep.
Checked our accounts obsessively.
Felt resentful.
Panicked about what could go wrong.

Because for years, money felt tied to survival.

If income dropped.
If a job changed.
If something unexpected happened.

It felt like everything could collapse.

I used to think financial freedom meant having unlimited money in the bank.

Now I see it differently.

You can be in the gap - the space between where you are and where you want to be.

And still feel steady.

Most women live in that gap. Between:
- current salary and future goals
- debt and repayment
- security and uncertainty

The difference isn’t just income. It’s how you interpret uncertainty.

These days, I can say:
'I don’t know exactly how the full $700,000 will come together.'

And still feel grounded.

Not careless.
Not ignoring reality.
Not pretending it’s easy.

Grounded.

That steadiness lets me:
- think clearly
- take practical steps
- increase earning power
- make decisions without panic driving them

This is what I mean by “Play as if it means nothing, when it means everything.”

You can want something deeply, without letting fear control you.

In my framework, this is Layer 3: Financial Conviction.

Layer 1 is mechanics: earning, saving, investing.
Layer 2 is identity: your stories about money.
Layer 3 is conviction: the deep belief that even if circumstances shift, you can recover, rebuild, and generate again.

Without Layer 3:
A layoff feels fatal.
Debt feels paralyzing.
An income dip feels like proof you’re failing.

With Layer 3:
You recalibrate.
You adapt.
You stay steady.

If you earn well but still feel one income shift away from instability, this might be the missing layer.

Because financial resilience isn’t about eliminating uncertainty. It’s about increasing your capacity to handle it.

I thought my dream was owning a café. Years ago, my husband and I left our jobs to start one. We imagined a different kind of life. More flexibility, more time with our kids, and the satisfaction of building something of our own.

But the business didn’t work out financially.

When we closed it, we were left with six-figure debt.

I went back to corporate work to stabilise our finances, and gradually I became the primary financial provider for our family.

On the outside, everything looked fine. I had a steady job and a stable income.

But internally, the pressure felt heavy.

The responsibility for our family’s financial stability rested largely on my shoulders, and every financial decision suddenly felt bigger.

Looking back, that period taught me something no one had ever taught me before.

Financial resilience isn’t just about money.

It’s about learning how to stay calm and make clear decisions when the financial responsibility for your family rests on you.

Over the years I’ve realised many mid-career women quietly carry this same weight. 

If that’s you, you’re not alone. And it is possible to make it work when your financial decisions align with what matters most.

You can manage a multi-million-dollar budget. But avoid logging into your own bank account. That’s not incompetence. It's pressure. And pressure changes behavior.

For years, when my business wasn’t working the way I wanted, I responded the same way:
- buy another program
- hire another coach
- outsource the problem

My belief was simple: Money solves money problems.

So I tried to solve everything with more spending, more learning, more effort.

I earned more.
I studied investing.
I tracked and budgeted.

But none of that changed one thing:
How I reacted when the numbers dropped.

That’s when I realized something important.

Financial clarity isn’t just about understanding the numbers.

It’s about how you behave when the numbers make you uncomfortable.

When I stopped reacting automatically, something shifted.

I could look at the data calmly.
Make smaller, deliberate decisions.
Move forward without urgency.

Nothing about my financial goals changed.
But my response did. And that changed the trajectory.

Real financial security isn’t just a number.

It’s the ability to stay composed and strategic when money moves.

It’s Monday morning and I’m feeling the Monday blues. Some mornings I wish I didn’t have to go into the office.

I wish I could wake up without an alarm clock, read a book all morning, take a slow walk in the middle of the day, and watch a movie in the afternoon.

Then reality kicks in.

Bills to pay.
Kids to send to college.
A lifestyle to maintain.

All of which matter deeply to me. I would choose them again without hesitation.

But when you’re the primary financial provider for your family, work can feel different.

Some days you show up not because you feel inspired, but because you understand the responsibility you carry.

You make decisions and take actions because they matter even when you don’t feel like it.

And even when it’s a conscious choice, many women carry that responsibility quietly.

If more income solved financial anxiety, high earners would feel calm. They don’t.

After I became a mother, two small humans depended on me.

So I did what high performers do. I focused on increasing income. I more than doubled it.

And still, unexpected expenses tightened my chest. Large tax bills felt threatening. Investing in my business triggered guilt.

The number grew.
Yet, the tension didn’t leave.

That’s when I realized, this wasn’t a math problem. It was a response problem.

I understood investing.
I understood budgeting.
I understood strategy.

But when money felt uncertain, I wasn’t calm under pressure.

And no spreadsheet fixes that.

Real financial security isn’t just having money.

It’s being composed enough to look at your numbers clearly.
Deliberate enough to make strategic decisions.
Self-directed enough not to panic when income shifts.

You can look successful on the outside and still feel financially vulnerable inside. 

That gap is trainable.

This is what I call financial resilience - the ability to stay composed and strategic when income changes.

But over time I realized something important.

It’s about knowing that even when things change, you trust yourself to figure out a way forward.
