I worked as a research assistant for Rijkswaterstaat, the Dutch executive agency for public works and water management. My main task was to conduct a research project on how to scale the use of second hand furniture in the Netherlands to bolster sustainability in the industry.

The research project involved:

- Reviewing the literature on the environmental and social benefits of second hand furniture, as well as the barriers and drivers for its adoption by consumers and businesses.

- Conducting interviews and surveys with various stakeholders, such as furniture manufacturers, retailers, resellers, refurbishers, NGOs, and customers.

- Analyzing the data and identifying the best practices, opportunities, and challenges for scaling the use of second hand furniture in the Netherlands.

- Developing recommendations and strategies for Rijkswaterstaat and other relevant actors to promote and facilitate the circular economy of furniture.

The research project was a valuable learning experience for me, as I gained insights into the complex and dynamic system of furniture production and consumption, and the potential for circular solutions to reduce waste and emissions, while creating social and economic value. I also improved my skills in research design, data collection and analysis, report writing, and stakeholder engagement.

I enjoyed working with a diverse and motivated team of researchers, consultants, and experts from Rijkswaterstaat and other organizations. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this important and innovative project.

I kept hearing that #Bitcoin “went mainstream”, so I did what any responsible adult does.
I looked at the data instead.

What I found in 2025–2026 was less hype, more spreadsheets.

📊 Spot #Bitcoin ETFs pulled in tens of billions in net inflows in under a year. That’s not retail FOMO. That’s committees, mandates, and monthly rebalancing.

📈 Over 70% of new #BTC exposure now comes via regulated products and custodians, not self-custody wallets. The holders changed, so the market changed.

⚖️ Major financial centers rolled out clearer custody, capital, and disclosure frameworks in 2025. In other words, #Bitcoin became deployable without career risk.

🏦 #Bitcoin correlations are shifting post ETF era. Less meme behavior, more portfolio math. Risk teams are now arguing about drawdowns, not vibes.

🏛️ When policymakers start debating strategic reserves, even hypothetically, the asset has already crossed the line. Ideology exits. Risk management enters.

None of that feels very mainstream.
It feels… institutional.

I wrote a short piece pulling together the numbers and what they quietly imply for how #Bitcoin is actually being used today.

🎯 Vision is in lockstep

Vision is not a speech.
It is not a slide.
It is not a poster on a wall.

Vision only exists when words, decisions, priorities, & behavior move together.

The moment they drift, vision becomes narrative.

🧠 Vision breaks when behavior lags language

Most leaders don’t fail at setting vision.
They fail at keeping it synchronized.

They say speed, but reward caution.
They say ownership but override decisions.
They say excellence but tolerate exceptions.

People don’t follow what you say.
They follow what stays consistent.

When behavior falls out of step, vision loses credibility fast.

⚖️ Alignment is not agreement, it is consistency

This is where many teams get it wrong.

They chase alignment in meetings.
What they need is alignment in action.

Vision is reinforced when decisions look familiar.
When tradeoffs point the same way.
When priorities don’t change with pressure.

Lockstep does not mean rigidity.
It means coherence.

🧭 Strategy drifts when vision isn’t enforced

Vision without enforcement is aspiration.

If vision says customer first, escalation paths must reflect that.
If vision says accountability, consequences must be visible.
If vision says focus, something must be deprioritized publicly.

Strategy fails not because vision was unclear, but because it was optional.

📉 Inconsistency is louder than contradiction

Here’s the uncomfortable truth.

One inconsistent decision outweighs ten consistent messages.

Teams notice immediately when vision bends under pressure.
They adjust faster than leaders expect.

Vision doesn’t die dramatically.
It erodes quietly.

One exception at a time.

🪞 Senior leadership reality

At senior levels, every action is amplified.

What you attend signals importance.
What you delay signals tolerance.
What you excuse signals permission.

This is why vision requires discipline, not inspiration.

Lockstep is not accidental.
It is maintained deliberately.

✅ The leadership question that matters

Ask yourself this.

“If someone watched only my decisions, would they understand our vision?”

If not, the issue isn’t communication.
It’s synchronization.

Vision works only when it moves in lockstep.

With behavior.
With tradeoffs.
With consequences.

Anything else is just a story told confidently.

Most leadership mistakes don’t come from lack of intelligence.

They come from certainty.

The moment a leader needs to be right, curiosity shuts down.
Listening narrows.
Signals get filtered.
Dissent becomes inconvenient.

Being right feels good.
Being curious keeps you effective.

🧠 Confirmation bias is the silent saboteur

Confirmation bias is not a flaw.
It is a feature of the human brain.

We subconsciously seek information that validates our existing beliefs.
We discount data that threatens them.
We favor voices that agree with us.

The higher the role, the stronger the bias.

Power reduces challenge.
Success reinforces confidence.
Feedback becomes polite.

Curiosity is the only counterweight.

⚖️ Leaders who ask better questions decide better

Strong leaders don’t dominate conversations.
They shape them.

They ask questions before giving answers.
They explore before concluding.
They listen without rehearsing their response.

Seeking to understand is not passivity.
It is information advantage.

The fastest way to improve decision quality is to slow down certainty.

🧭 Being right ends learning, being curious extends it

The moment you prove you’re right, the conversation ends.

Curiosity keeps it open.

It invites perspectives you don’t have.
It surfaces risks you didn’t model.
It reveals assumptions you didn’t notice.

Most strategic blind spots exist because leaders stopped being curious too early.

📉 Organizations mirror the leader’s posture

Teams copy what leaders reward.

If leaders defend their views, teams stop challenging.
If leaders interrupt, teams stop sharing.
If leaders listen deeply, teams bring better thinking.

Curiosity scales faster than authority.

🪞 Senior leadership reality

At senior levels, curiosity must be intentional.

No one is paid to challenge you.
No one is incentivized to contradict you.
Silence often masquerades as alignment.

Curious leaders make it safe to disagree.
They separate ego from exploration.
They treat opposing views as assets, not threats.

✅ The leadership question that matters

Before asserting your position, ask this.

“What would I believe if I were wrong?”

Then listen like the answer matters.

Because leadership is not about winning arguments.
It is about making better decisions.

Being right feels satisfying.
Being curious keeps you relevant.

Silence is often mistaken for neutrality.
