We just validated something most B2B marketers overlook about CTV.
Analyzed 54 days of LinkedIn CTV campaign data against website traffic.
The correlation? 0.69 (p < 0.001)
But here's what actually matters:
Organic Search correlation: 0.81
Direct traffic correlation: 0.65
CTV isn't driving clicks. It's driving search behavior.
People see your ad on LinkedIn CTV → they Google your brand → they visit your site.
We're seeing ~352 sessions per 1,000 CTV impressions, with the strongest lift happening in branded search traffic.
This is exactly how brand awareness should work. But most marketers measure it like performance media and wonder why "it doesn't work."
The data shows:
→ Same-day impact + 7-day sustained lift
→ Primary conversion path: CTV → Organic Search → Site
→ Implied cost per session: $0.08
If you're running CTV and only looking at click-through rates, you're measuring the wrong thing.
Look at your branded search volume. That's where the signal is.

I’ve wrapped up an awesome two year run at 360Learning. It’s a fantastic organization and I learned so much working with the talented people there. Gonna share some cool things I got to see up close, and the folks who showed me them.

FIrst, what does “Exec Presence” look like in the specific domain of performance marketing? I saw it modeled by James Meincke.

In a mature business, communicating Demand Gen outcomes to a wide group of non-expert stakeholders, *especially* when there are big dips or big wins, is pretty much existential for the integrity of the marketing function. 

James operated across the wider org as a straight-shooting steady hand. Never too high, never too low. Kipling would be proud (check out the poem “If”).

This gave me the room I needed to do my job well. Specifically:

If a channel tanked - and occasionally a channel did completely tank - he was able to help set the expectations with the wider team for what recovery could look like, and how long it could take. 

That largely helped us avoid the nightmare scenario of exacerbating a performance dip through knee-jerk reaction.

And second, if we had a performance win, it was communicated in a way that earned us real internal capital over time. 

James understood we were playing an iterative game - the targets are there each month, and ongoing trust between Demand Gen and Revenue is more important than a passing plaudit. 

So he wasn’t pinging the wider team to celebrate vanity metrics, and he wasn’t goosing the results of a successful experiment to make it look even better. 

If we claimed a win, the revenue team would have already felt it. This reinforced our alignment and built trust, such that when we had dips, the political capital was there to let us work through them.

My next step isn’t going to be leading Demand Gen at a large org, but candidly these skills are relevant for communicating marketing results in any context. 

I just hadn’t been lucky enough to see them up close in this way before.

Another 360Learning shoutout: many of you have experienced Justin Norris’ posts. Few of you have experienced Justin Norris up close. I can confirm to the wider internet that this man is *extremely* legitimate.

I’ve been trying to coin a phrase for what Justin does that I’d never seen before. I came up with “lead from the weeds”. It’s a rich person’s version of player/coach. More leadier. Way weedsier. 

He's probably the single most in-the-weeds marketer at 360Learning. What’s the Chili Piper company size cutoff for Enterprise vs Mid-market BDR routing? Ask Justin. 

Why did the outbound quota for the UK go down by 3 with no change to the market SQL targets for the quarter? Ask Justin.

What’s going on with the webhook that automatically creates LinkedIn matched account audiences for our Job Changers play? Oh you know you askin Justin.

So how can someone so mired in the details be helping define high-level strategy across some of our most important marketing initiatives? Demand Creation, Outbound, you name it, Justin was instrumental in the success we achieved.

Well, I don’t think everyone could do it. 

But his superpower is taking his abundance of context, zooming all the way out, and delivering incredibly clear-eyed articulations of juice vs squeeze. And yea, it’s probably a MOps leader’s job to evaluate squeeze. But Justin’s always got his eye on the juice.

And this was all *before* LLMs came along. Good lordt. Justin dove into those weeds like a spaniel flushing a pheasant. When he resurfaced he had ripped out entire expensive parts of our tech stack and rebuilt them himself, and they didn’t just demo well. They actually worked!

So big shoutout to Justin. I’m going to try to take “leading from the weeds” with me into my next role. 

I increasingly think the best marketers will need to be extremely hands-on AND strategic at the same time. The tools exist now to do it. 

You just gotta commit.
