In July 2023, New Zapiens started as a private WhatsApp group. Karol and Simon, two fathers, shared reliable health and longevity tips, aiming to extend their health spans and maximize life’s potential.

Health brands are making millions off your fear of death. 

And the founders are pretending it's "preventive care".

I meet more and more people who refuse to get tested for cancer, heart disease, or genetic conditions.

Not because they can't afford it. Because they'd rather not know.

They tell me they're more afraid of the diagnosis than the disease itself. They'd rather live in uncertainty than face a positive test result.

And I completely get why. Working in preventive health means I think about death more than most people.

And honestly? I'm watching something that makes me sick.

The longevity industry has turned fear into a business model.

Brands are using your terror of death to sell you protocols you don't need. 
They're weaponizing mortality to drive conversions.

↳ "Test now or regret it later" 
↳ "Your genes are a ticking time bomb" 
↳ "Every day you wait, you're closer to the end"

This isn't health optimization. It's fear mongering.

Being afraid of a bad diagnosis is completely normal. Human, even.

Choosing not to test for something is a personal decision. Your body, your choice, your timeline.

But using people's deepest fears to generate revenue?

That's a red flag.

The best health brands I work with do the opposite. They remove fear from the equation. They focus on empowerment, not anxiety. They make testing feel like gaining control, not losing it.

Fear might sell in the short term. But it destroys trust in the long run.

If you're building in health, ask yourself: Are you helping people face their fears, or are you exploiting them?

When Dr. Bastian Mayerhofer reached out and asked if I wanted "full fasting benefits while eating," my BS radar turned red. [Ad]

I've been experimenting with fasting for years. Water fasts, 16:8, OMAD (one meal a day).

Same wall: Day 3 of a water fast? I'm obsessing about food. Headaches. My energy crashes. Doesn't fit my work-family lifestyle. 

Then Bastian shared a GeroScience trial: Fasting-Mimicking Diets (FMD) trigger autophagy, measured in human blood cells, while improving insulin resistance, glucose, and ketones.

After digging into it, I decided to test ProLon’s 5-Day Next-Gen Box.

Why fasting matters:

When you fast, your body switches from growth mode to repair mode. It triggers autophagy, your cells' cleanup system that recycles damaged parts. Think of it as taking out the cellular trash.

Sharing my 2 years below👇🏼 what I did? how? why?
DM me if you're a Founder hiring, VC supporting Founders or Talent leader to exchange - I’ve open capacity to help. Probably for a short time 😉

1. high-level strategy: my choice was to support Founders hands-on in execution, advising only if it came naturally in the context of challenges we face in execution. I believe it's the only way you can deliver impact or value as a VC, understanding Founders/company context deep enough. This is what Founders value and believe in (mostly). Talk is cheap, work is hard. I will never forget Tomas words about that.

2. data summary:
a) 42 closed hiring projects
quality was 8-9/10 rated by Founders (hard af to satisfy bunch 😂) - most of them were exec hires (series A+), founding team (seed or pressed) or key hires to enable the business to grow 
b) 10 supporting projects
advisory, introducing the right agency, helping with org design or interviewing etc
c) 8 paused for various reasons (timing, prios etc)
d) 11 canceled or failed -> this is what hurts, but it's a reality and full picture - mostly I failed bc of the relationship with a Founder and understanding their context. It's on me. I take full ownership. It just wasn't well built up enough - relationship -> context, so I did not have enough quality in the pipe or too complex role/expectations.

3. what I learned as a playbook:
- build a relationship from early on - before we even invest, start working with the Founder/s, get their context, what and how they work
- go to meet them in person - things get faster, desk-to-desk working together is a tool
- start delivering fast - build trust gradually with execution
- set the bar high - what great looks like in the trenches, it's a different story to whiteboard - operationalizing and executing for high quality, is a shared ownership.
- hustle together through failures - lead them calmly through the storm of hiring
- do 1-4 key hires together, then hire together a Talent person, help this person to build the Talent OS -> set them up for success for the next stages of growth
- keep in touch, but let them go on their own journey - put ego aside to move on
