Here’s why adding color to your résumé often isn’t a smart move:

ATS can’t admire design
 -Applicant Tracking Systems don’t care how pretty a résumé looks. Color, graphics, and text boxes can confuse the system and cause key experience or keywords to be missed.

Color doesn’t equal clarity
 -Hiring managers want fast answers: What did you do? How well did you do it? Color can distract from results instead of highlighting them.

Printing still happens
-Many résumés get printed in black and white. What looked “clean” on screen can turn muddy or unreadable on paper.

It can send the wrong signal
 -Unless you’re applying for a design or creative role, color can come across as trying to compensate for experience instead of showcasing it.

Simple scales better
 -A clean, black-and-white résumé is easier to scan, easier to parse, and easier to adapt across roles and industries.

Color is perfect for seashells, sunsets, and Instagram.

 Your résumé should focus on one thing only: getting you the interview.
