Persona pages are one of the highest-leverage pages a B2B SaaS company can build.

But most companies get them wrong.

Here are three mistakes I see over and over, and what the best SaaS companies do instead.

Mistake 1: Same Copy, Different Header

This is the most common one. 

The company creates a page for Sales Leaders, a page for CS Leaders, and a page for Operations. 

But when you read all three, the copy is nearly identical. 

If your persona pages are interchangeable, they are not persona pages. They are your product page with a different title.

Steerco (an AI presentation platform for GTM teams) avoids this on their Revenue Leaders page. 

They have a "Solutions Tailored to Your Leadership Role" section that segments messaging for VP of Sales, RevOps Leadership, VP of Customer Success, Agency Owners, and CRO. 

Each gets its own distinct framing. 

The VP of Sales sees messaging about replicating winning behaviors across the sales team. 

The VP of Customer Success sees messaging about scaling retention without adding CSMs. 

Same platform, completely different stories.

Mistake 2: Leading with Features Instead of the Role's Reality

A persona page is not a feature list reorganized by department. 

If a prospect lands on your page and the first thing they see is a product screenshot and a bullet list of capabilities, you have lost them.

The best persona pages lead with the role's world, not yours. 

Matic (an AI medical documentation platform) does this on their Physicians page. 

Before mentioning a single product feature, the page names the physician's daily frustration: "The Hidden Cost of Documentation: Lost Time, Lost Revenue, Lost Focus." 

Physicians see their reality reflected back before the product enters the conversation.

Mistake 3: Generic Pain Points that Could Apply to Anyone

Some companies create role pages but fill them with pain points so broad they could describe any buyer at any company. "Improve efficiency." "Drive better outcomes." "Save time." 

That is not persona messaging. That is filler.

Octave (a generative GTM platform) takes the opposite approach on their GTM Teams page. 

Instead of generic pain points, they name specific frustrations GTM teams actually experience: for example, "Your company's ICP docs are digital tombstones." 

A GTM leader reading that page immediately recognizes the exact problems they deal with every week. The specificity is what makes it convert.

Adding role names to your menu is not personalization. 

Rewriting the story for each buyer is.

Here is a quick test: pick the role that influences your biggest deals the most. 

Now check if your website has a page that speaks to their specific challenge. If it does not, that is the gap between "this looks interesting" and "this is built for me.
