Exterion Media

Working as a key member of the executive team for Exterion Media, I was responsible for launching and leading the new Exterion Media Ventures arm in 2011.

The role was wide ranging, with up to 15 high return live projects running concurrently and included: Identifying innovative low risk ways to create new revenue streams through void/excess inventory; forming 'media for equity' partnerships with fast growth potential online business models; establishing revenue share and shared risk/shared rewards arrangements with joint venture partners and formulating white label businesses.

From a starting point of zero, this new area of business generated over £30 million of incremental media revenue spanning 30 clients who went on to become some of Europe's best performing scale ups.

If you’re a brand considering Out of Home advertising across any of the TFL estate here's a post you absolutely have to save ….Because if it helps you avoid the pain that forgetting might cause…. It’ll be worth it!!

So here goes…

TFL will refuse to run your poster if it looks like a cock ….

You might say bollard… They'll hear cock ….

You'll show them a bollard ….

They'll see a cock …

TFL will refuse to run your poster if you have wording that suggests, looks like... hints at or even sometimes … Sounds like a swear word ….

They know what you’re doing … You know what you’re doing …

Kids read these posters and nobody at TFL wants to be the reason little Johhny goes into school and calls his teacher a C*** Faced Mother F****** … Again.

TFL will refuse to run anything that looks like graffiti from the 1979 classic film ‘The Warriors’…

Can you dig it? … Doesn’t matter if you don’t … They won’t change their mind …

TFL won’t allow anything which looks like exposed brick, mould or peeling paint …
Turns out it takes years of hard graft to make the Tube look like it does and if anyone's going to give it character  .... It's them and no-one else....

TFL will refuse to run your photograph, cartoon or cave wall drawing of a burger ….
Ahhhh..... HFSS … Four letters that stand for N… O …. Spells …. Not a f**king chance that poster goes anywhere near those walls….

And finally ….. TFL won’t allow any wording that suggests a crush …

See it …. Feel it … But definitely don’t say it …. On a poster at any rate….

Nobody wants to be made to feel uncomfortable stuck three miles below the surface ....

So …In summary ….

No cocks, swear words, graffiti, exposed brick, rips, peels or anything high in fat, sugar or salt …

And definitely nothing to make anyone feel uncomfortable....

Remember all of the above and you'll never be left rubbing your head asking a question that has been asked a million times and always has the same answer….

‘I wonder if TFL will change their mind?’

The answer rhymes with 'Got a Clucking Ranch' .... Thank me later...

 .... But thank TFL now for ensuring London's Tube network looks a lot better than a 1970's New Jersey Subway 💪
