I'm building my own business in India, earning in $$

It's a dream come true, but here's the truth -

It's not all flowers and rainbows...

I remember the time I was sitting at a wedding and had to use my laptop.

It wasn't my proudest moment, but I had no choice!

You see -

I used to handle freelancing and a full time job

I put in 12 to 13 hour workdays for 2 whole years.

And I had to maintain my relationships, fitness and sanity too.

Not the easiest thing I've ever done.

I left my full time role and doubled down on my business back in August 2023.

Did things get better? Kinda.

But I still had to login during my vacation to Bali, my first international trip.

Fast forward to now...

I've hired people in my team to hold the fort.

And yet, I can't step away from my business without everything falling apart

I traded my 9-5 for a 10-10.

The good part?

I try to take most of my weekends off
(even though I am writing this post on one)

I go out with my friends on random weekdays as I can work from anywhere.

When this gets posted, I'll be in another city.

But yes, it's not an easy game like social media has made you believe.

Most business owners CANNOT afford to take vacations or step away from their business...

You can outsource and build systems, but it takes time.

Remember that people show you only a part of the picture, not because they are trying to fool you, but because they probably don't read every post.

This post, as a fact, might not perform well, and a part of my audience will never get to know the hardships I've faced to get here.

According to them, I might be living the "ideal" life.

But, it's far from what I'd want it to be.

I've still got a ton of work to do in 2026 to get there.

But hey, if you think someone needs to hear this -

I have huge goals in my mind for 2026

1. A week long vacation 

I simply want to take a vacation for a week without everything falling apart

My biz is currently dependent on my logging in for client accounts

Even though I have a team of 4 star players who are handling certain clients.

I still have a long way to go...


2. Build on $ubstack 

I'm not a fan of short form content, and I miss non clickbait writing.

So, I've started creating on substack.

I'll be posting there weekly and I'll be covering -

- How I'm scaling my business (and trying not to cry)
- How I plan to achieve financial freedom by 2035 

Or as I like to call it - "The Messy Middle"


3. I'm launching a course in Q1 of 2026 

The truth is most VAs do $uck

I've seen multiple creators complain about it...

No one knows how to handle a client account effectively.

So, I'm helping ghostwriters, coaches and other creators train their VAs or community managers.

I'll be launching my own community management course!

That's all you'd need to train your VA.

It will cover the basics of LinkedIn to advanced engagement strategies.

I have a "simple" goal for 2026

But it's going to be the toughest thing to do -

I want to step away from my business for a week.

You see...

I started working as a freelancer in May 2021

I started my full time tech job in July 2021

In the last 4 years, I can count the number of days I've taken a holiday on my fingers.

And that's NOT good news.

I have worked during vacations, road trips, national holidays, festivals, etc.

So, I made my first hire in March 2025.

I was scared because I didn't know if I had it in me.

But ever since then, I've hired more people and scaled.

(and they are all crushing it)

And now that I've started building a star team, I want to be able to step away without everything breaking down.

It's not going to be easy work...

Because time availability is a HUGE problem

(especially for clients who post during school/work hours)

Not only that, I also have to:

- Manage the timings of new clients
- Try not to have a mental breakdown
- Manage attrition if someone leaves the team

And there are clients that I can't risk outsourcing anytime soon...

So, it might sound "simple" on paper, but it is far from it.

That's why it's my sole goal for 2026

And I am going to make a post when I achieve this.

It takes me a week to prepare for a new client.

Here are 5 things I do during that -

1) Stalk their profile like my life depends on it 

Every action they take from their profile matters to me.

I live in their comment section and map everything that's important for me.

I work on perfecting their tone.


2) Make more notes than I did in my schooling

My brain can handle 5 clients with different tones without taking a single note.

But sometimes, I have my days too.

And now that I have people working with me, I HAVE to take notes.


3) Create a blacklist

The last thing you want to do is to add some comment to a competitor's post or someone you've had a falling out with...

Yep, I know the "there's enough fish in the sea" concept.

But, trust me, not all competitors are the same - some are thieves 


4) Rejoin College

Well, we can't handle an account if we don't understand what they are doing.

So, my team and I understand your entire domain and business to comment like the expert you are.

I take notes for this, too.


5) Point 5

Someone told me that having 5 or 7 points is psychologically better

But I couldn't think of anything else I do.
(or maybe it's a secret 👀)

Anywompers....

Have you ever considered outsourcing your community engagement?

"Why don't you post stats as proof of work?"

Because it's misleading.

You see,

I am a community manager.

This involves me handling the commenting game for my clients!

Now -

When a post blows up...

Is it because of the brand they've built?
Yes.

Is it because of the content they wrote?
Yes.

Is it because of my engagement strategy?
Also, yes.

So, morally, I can't claim the credit.

Because it's a combination of everything!

What about comment impressions?
It will reveal the identity of my clients

On top of that...

There will be clients who'd never want to show that we've worked together.

But I don't care about any of this.

Because -

I might not have much social proof to SHOW.

But I get a steady flow of referrals for me and my team.

And that's MY proof of work.

I would probably struggle with lead gen directly

But I know I'll figure $hīt out when I have to cross that bridge!

What is a lead generation strategy that has worked for you?

I'm a hypocrite and I'm not ashamed of it...

See, my first post went live on 20th May, 2020.

And I got hired in April 2021 when my mentor, Luke, took a bet on me.

I spent 3 years under his wing and learned social media from scratch.

After his pivot in 2024, he helped me start my agency.

(btw you should check out the cool things he is building on $ubstack, will link it in the comments)

Anyway...

The point is that he took a bet on someone he had ZERO idea about

He did his research and watched me for months, but it was still a gamble.

Now that I run my own business and am hiring people

I'm doing none of that.

I haven't hired anyone online.

Everyone who works with me is from my friend circle
(or are HIGHLY trusted by them)

Why?
-> I don't have the skills or patience to scout, and I don't trust people easily.

Especially as this role has no margin for errors.

One wrong move, and the client's reputation is gone.

And I will not only lose a client...

But also my credibility, which I've built over the years
(and is critical for my agency's survival)

Will this change?
Eventually, maybe.

But I've been in the industry for only 1 year on my own.

And I like to tread carefully in this long game!
