Originally from New Zealand, now based in Warsaw, I have lived in five countries and worked in 10, leading senior teams for companies and clients such as Ogilvy, Accenture, and Microsoft. 

This experience has given me a unique understanding of both the Polish and the Anglo-American perspective, and the challenges of working across cultures. 

Polish and Anglo-American styles of business are quite different. Problem-solving, collaboration, and business communication are just some of the areas where cultural contrasts cause issues.

The 6 Types of Feeling Bad and the Right Tool for Each

You know that feeling when a movie twist flips everything you thought you knew?

That moment in The Empire Strikes Back when Darth Vader says, “I am your father”?

Suddenly, the entire story reframes itself.

Here’s the thing: that exact mechanism, the ability to hold two realities at once, is exactly what we need in the real world right now.

Most of us think we’re the enlightened. We see the truth; others are lost in the shadows of reality. But everyone believes the same thing.

That’s why revelation doesn’t change minds: perspective does. 

To cultivate that perspective, try three things:

1️⃣ Belief Growth Mindset — Treat your beliefs like skills. You can train and update them. Bayesian reasoning teaches us that every belief is a “prior” that gets updated by new evidence.

2️⃣ Certainty Tracking — Ask: “How sure am I? What would I bet on it?” Then, “Why that number and not higher?” This keeps your confidence honest.

3️⃣ Beautiful Nuance — Ask, “What would a smart opponent say?” Real growth lies in the gray, not the black and white.

Most people say “I just feel bad” as if that’s one single emotion.

It’s not. 

There are six different kinds of bad feelings, and each demands a different response.

Organize your feelings more effectively, and you can feel better than you do.

Bad feelings about the past require you to tell yourself a new story about what the events mean.

Bad feelings about the future can be dealt with effectively by estimating the realistic likelihood that bad events will happen.

But the single best thing you can do is take care of your body.

Sleep well. 

Exercise and move regularly.

Eat healthy.

Find time to relax.

Get your nature on.

Spend time with people who make you feel good.

Spend time putting your attention on things that make you feel good.

These are the things that make the most difference.
