🌟WHAT I DO

I help protect families, financial plans, care choices, and legacies by planning for one of life’s hardest events - long-term care (LTC) aka extended care. I design unique plans and policies for each individual, family, or employer.

I’m a guide. I don't tell my clients what they should do, rather I listen to their needs, goals, and concerns and give them recommendations. Ultimately, it's up to them to decide.


🌟WHY I DO WHAT I DO

I know the value and importance of planning for the unexpected. 

I saw and experienced the difficult realities of extended care/LTC situations in my family. All of my grandparents needed LTC, but none of them had a written plan or LTC insurance. This put a tremendous amount of financial, physical, and emotional burdens on my family. I was a part-time caregiver to my grandma for a couple of years. If my grandparents had LTC plans and insurance, these situations could have been much less difficult. 

My father-in-law was a dentist and due to an accident lost significant vision and could no longer practice dentistry in his 40s. His individual disability policy provided valuable income for over 20 years to my husband's family! Without that policy, life would have been very difficult.

It’s an honor to be able to come alongside clients and provide compassion and expertise in LTC.

Where AI governance, a sloth, accelerated underwriting, and alligator butter all appeared in the same 48 hours - Part 2 of ILTCI - The Intercompany Long Term Care Insurance Conference :


Yes… there was actually a sloth.


Here’s how the final stretch of the conference unfolded:


TUES
Kicked off with a session on AI regulation and governance with Elaine Gibbs, Ann Koppel, and Scott Kosnoff.


The big theme: guardrails matter.


Orgs need clear processes for designing, approving, testing, and monitoring AI tools, along with training and oversight.


One challenge = “human drift.” Even when policies exist, people gradually stop following them unless systems reinforce them.


Next up was Accelerated Underwriting with Chris Klement, Rachel Cabe, Erin McClintock, and Norman Seeman, FLMI, LTCP. 


Claims data and Rx data help carriers determine when medical records are actually needed and some are t even using records. 


QHIN Qualified Health Information Networks) systems can retrieve electronic medical records in about 48 hours.


Currently they can get them about 40–50% of the time, but the expectation is that within a couple of years that number could reach 80%, dramatically speeding up UW.


Another session focused on streamlining claim benefit eligibility decisions with Joan Stear, Katie Johnson, LSW, Lina Lassiter, and Garrett Mills. 


Takeaway: the initial benefit eligibility assessment is a critical step, followed by medical records, caregiver documentation, doctor statements, and claimant interviews.


They also discussed nonforfeiture benefits, restoration of benefits, and situations where clients move directly from home into memory care.


Somewhere in the middle of all that learning…


I found myself standing next to a sloth at Mutual of Omaha’s booth.


Holding it was not allowed, but I got as close as possible. They’re cute in a very… unusual way. And this one had its eye on the corn nearby. 😆


Dinner that evening with Nationwide was served with alligator butter. Also, surprisingly delicious gluten-free rolls.


Great conversations with Allen Gregoire, Tony Massenelli, MBA, CLTC, CBC™, and Joseph Taylor. 


The night wrapped up catching up with Andy and Kerry before heading back. Apparently Andy still hasn’t mastered what to do with his hands in photos. 😂

WED
I stayed for a fascinating a.m. session from the Alzheimer's Association® on emerging developments in brain health, diagnosis, and treatment.


After that I squeezed in one last hour at the pool before heading to the airport.


✈️Rumor was TSA would be a nightmare, but it only took 20 minutes.


When I got home, Adam picked me up appropriately exhausted after several days of being both mom AND dad while I was gone (one kid even got sick).


So a quick shoutout to all the single parents out there.

You are heroes!!
