This course teaches students Tableau, a leading visual analysis platform. Tableau allows people to see and understand their data visually using drag and drop.

Instructor - Intro to Visual Analytics with Tableau

As a member of the university’s enrolment planning leadership team, my role interacts with stakeholders from across UBC: VPs, AVPs, faculty deans and associate deans, finance directors, and enrollment managers. As a team, our office provides analysis to members of the UBC community, and does the official government and external reporting for the institution. 

I lead or sponsor several projects within Planning and Institutional Research (PAIR), and around the university. We designed, developed, and implemented several major projects, including: 

 
•	Admissions data warehouse. This project has enabled UBC to get near instant self-serve analytics for the first time. My role was to define business requirements, and oversee and approve the work of a developer. 

•	Automated, self-serve Admissions analytics, delivered via Tableau. This has resulted in increased engagement with Admissions reporting, and time savings for senior leadership in Enrolment Services. My role was to create new dashboards that allow Admissions and faculties to better understand enrollment patterns. 

•	Enrollment and tuition forecasting model. This provided university executives and the Board with forecasts of enrollment and revenue for future years under different scenarios, built using a combination of R, Oracle, Java, and Tableau. The Board ultimately approved a series of tuition fees based on the estimates provided. 

•	Adoption and training of Tableau Server as an interactive analytics platform. This resulted in a substantial year-over-year reduction in ad-hoc requests in PAIR as stakeholders can now go to dashboards and answer questions instantly. Further, my colleagues are all much more confident as Tableau authors as a result of this training. My role spans chief trainer and evangelist, to back-end programmer.

Senior Planning and Research Analyst

Simon Fraser University

•	Co-lead in the sourcing and implementation of an enterprise level business intelligence solution. 
•	Provide analysis, insight, and recommendations in support of the strategic enrolment management goals of the university to decision makers within Student Services, Faculty Dean’s Offices, and academic and service units. 
•	Serve as a key liaison between academic units and Student Services for business intelligence services.
•	Lead in the analysis of electronic transcript data from the BC Ministry of Education, and provide recommendations to Admissions and faculty dean’s on meeting targets.  
•	Train and support a team of analysts learning data query and analysis by providing feedback, best practices, and instruction. 
•	Develop and implement automated, on-demand, analysis and reports including building a data warehouse that helps improve processes and reduce errors. 
•	Create annual and semesterly reporting for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), including streamlining the data upload process, reducing the need for manual data entry.

Enrolment Services Analyst, Business and Policy Analysis, Student Services

•	Serve on the School’s executive team and provide curriculum and policy advice and guidance.
•	Analysis on enrolments, finances, and admissions to aid in strategic planning. 
•	Supervise a team of 3-5 advisors, recruiters, students, and contractors in support of student success. 
•	Analyze and improve business process, including leading the requirements gathering for an online teaching assistant application and hiring system.
•	Manage an operational budget of $100,000 for student affairs.
•	Member of numerous university level committees, including: Hiring Committee - Senior Director of Athletics; Waitlist Process Review Action Group; Enrolment Management Coordinating Committee; and others.

Coordinator, Enrolment Management and Student Affairs

- Prepared a regulary briefing for the Dean and program Directions on admission and enrolment trends, class scheduling, and other student trends.
- Managed the Faculty's $50,000 recruitment budget, enabling dozens of recruitment initiatives per year, which led to increased applications and yield.
- Hired and supervised 2 staff members, setting priorities and helping staff grow professionally.

Coordinator (Acting) Recruitment, Retention, Advising

- Oversaw teaching budget and faculty workload, and made decisions on whether or not to open additional class sections in conjunction with program director.  
- Scheduled classes, optimizing the competing demands and needs of students, faculty members, and the university's scheduling system.

Manager, Academic Programs (Acting)

- Hiring and supervision of our Advising and Recruitment team (up to 6 people). 
- Budget management (priority setting, purchasing and resource requirements, in conjunction with Manager and Recruiter) for Recruitment, Events, Website, and Communication ($25,000 per year).
- Development of 3 year departmental strategic plans. My primary contribution was data analysis and projections, and document editing.
- Establishment of industry partnerships with Lightyear Digital Studios, the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, and the City of Surrey.

Marketing Coordinator

- Hiring, supervision, and mentorship for 7 part-time employees, resulting in improved response times for academic advising, and an increase in the number of events we participated in. 
- Liaised with local and international education partners, culminating in a formal exchange agreement with the Salzburg University of Applied Sciences, as well as course transfer agreements with 5 BC institutions. 
- Managed recruitment and retention activities, which contributed to 15% annual growth in program enrolments during this time. 
- Created enrolment projections and provided recommendations to program leadership, resulting in increased awareness of student trends and issues at the curriculum committees.

Advisor / Recruiter

- Assisted with development and delivery of Teamwork, Communication, and Writing (TECH 100/101W) to a diverse group of university students.
- Taught classes of up to 70 students. 
- Provided feedback in person and in online environments, leading to more students being able to participate in feedback sessions.

Teaching Assistant

2010 Winter Olympic Games (Surrey Celebration Site)

- Served as Project Manager for 2 installations at the Surrey Celebration Site during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. 
- Lead a team of 20 volunteers to keep the site open during the two weeks of the Olympics. 
- Planned the budget, insurance, logistics, and contingency plans for the event.

As President and Co-Founder of Plaid Analytics, I work at the intersection of data science, enrollment strategy, and higher education transformation. We help colleges and universities across North America make better decisions—whether that’s forecasting enrollment, navigating international student policy changes, integrating student systems, or building a data informed culture. 

With a background in institutional research and enrollment services, I’ve been on the front lines of the data chaos many institutions face: disconnected systems, unclear ownership, and inconsistent definitions. I co-founded Plaid to fix that—through smart tools, streamlined processes, and a team that genuinely understands how universities work.

I also teach Analytics and Interpretation in the Faculty of Applied Science at UBC, helping the next generation of professionals build the skills to ask the right questions, visualize results effectively, and think critically about data in context.
