I was talking with a few people this past week about work-life balance and setting boundaries at work.

I’m lucky now — but it hasn’t always been that way.

I’m grateful for the ability to fully unplug when I go on vacation — no emails, no chats, just time with my favorite people.

Those breaks matter. They make me more creative, energized, and productive when I return.

What’s helped me set better boundaries:
1. Start small: Take a real lunch break. Go for a walk. Put your phone away for 30 minutes.
2. Communicate clearly: Let people know when you’ll be offline — and stick to it.
3. Believe the world won’t fall apart: It won’t. And you’ll come back stronger.

I used to think being “always available” was the key to success. It wasn’t — it was a fast track to burnout. I’ve learned that stepping away isn’t a sign of disengagement but a sign of balance.

Take the break. Don’t check the inbox. You’ll thank yourself.
