Do we overcomplicate business?


What if the answer to growth wasn’t strategy but something more obvious hiding in the shadow of simplicity. 

Over the past year at Boulter, we have seen what happens when people truly come first. 

Revenue grew 45%.
Stronger culture.
Better communication.
Turnover down from 27% to 8%.

Those numbers matter.

But they are simply the result of something deeper.

Not process, not strategy, but our people.

I am passionate about people, coaching, and mentoring individuals to become their best. When you focus on the individual, you unlock the performance of the team.  When personal goals align with the mission of the business, something powerful happens.

A shift in perspective in leadership, changing from managing the work to motivating the individual to increase performance. Inputs drive results, which create impact and motivation to change.

Through writing, speaking, and my work with partners like Tyler White, I have challenged many of the unwritten rules of business.

Rules that have not been questioned or studied for their effectiveness since the Industrial Age.

Through my experiences working for and with other companies, leaders, and organizations, I began forming ideas about what leadership and strategy could look like if people were truly placed at the center of the equation.

If trust existed.
If growth and development were encouraged.
If leadership created an environment where people could thrive.

Results would follow.

Over time, I realized something important.

If you understand people, you understand business.

People are complex. Each individual is unique and different. Hard to understand on the surface unless you take time to be curious and listen.

So we listened more, co-created solutions, and removed logical obstacles so we could fundamentally change how the business operates.

It all starts at the top, with the support of our owner, the team had the opportunity to test many of those ideas.

To innovate.
To take action.
To adjust quickly when something did not work.

Process, technology, partnerships, and performance.

Things that only work when people inside the system feel trusted, supported, and connected to the mission while co-creating solutions to achieve the goal.

We focused on:
• Real communication
• Trust and accountability between field and office
• A culture where feedback is welcomed, not avoided
• Investing in people’s growth
• Removal of busywork so people can focus on what actually matters

Skilled trades are changing.

The future of our industry will not be built by companies that simply manage projects better.

It will be built by leaders of those companies who learn how to lead people better. Those who build the best people and the strongest cultures will win.

That is what we are working toward every day.

Leadership Isn't a Title-It's an Action, Sharing my Journey. Leading with Love not Fear: Love-Based Leadership Focused with Human Centered Everything.

I am not good.

I am not bad.

I just simply am.

The last few weeks have been about two things: presence and surrender.

I realized I could not change because my desire to become better overshadowed the surrender required to grow. And in that surrender, I uncovered simple truths.

Beliefs drive our thoughts.
Thoughts shape decisions.
Decisions become actions.
Actions produce results.

If we think small, believe small, and let fear drive, we overanalyze ourselves and the world until we slowly become lost to it. What we believe has a way of becoming reality.

True growth does not come from controlling the external world. It starts within. And that internal shift creates external results.

In service, we don’t become smaller. We become free.
Free from labels.
Free from judgment.
Free from the pressure to prove.

Acceptance of our flaws, mistakes, and quirks brings peace.

We reshape our self-concept, no longer thinking in minima but in maxima. Unbridled potential. The power to create.

The world wants you small. Fall in line. Stay Afraid.

But when you declare you will attack the day, you stop being attacked by it. 

Others' Offenses lose power when you refuse to be offended.

Contentment, happiness, and joy are a conscious choice right here, right now, even in the storm of life.

Patience builds presence.
Preparation builds confidence.
Belief builds reality.

Pain stretches us. Comfort shrinks us.

Bravery and confidence aren’t earned through prestige. They’re powered by purpose.

To simply be.
Free of pride.
Because pride sacrifices the soul.

What we prioritize, we prize.
What we prize can control us.

Vulnerability builds intimacy.
Connection enables love.

Forgiveness unlocks the prison.

Slowing down restores perspective.

In surrender, we loosen our grip.

With open hands, we discover something freeing:

We were never on trial.
We were simply meant to be.
