Dopamine triggering copy

It's never too early for pumpkin pie. 🥧 

As a former pastry chef and bakery owner (yes, for real), I baked a lot of pies.

A lot. 

And one thing I discovered around the holidays: 

𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧'𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐬. 

Forget Pumpkin Mousse Cheesecake... or Pumpkin-Pecan Pie... or any other artistic twist on the classics.

It's pumpkin pie or bust. The creative versions never sold.

I also realize the same approach to assembling a pie can also apply to copywriting.

You can change some of the ingredients but if you forget the basics, you're taking risks you may regret.

Here's a formula that never fails to bring in your ideal audience...

"Knowing your audience" doesn't mean what you think it means.

It's NOT about their income level, state of residence, or whether they shop at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.

Just because they can afford you or live in your hometown doesn't mean they'll buy from you.

Copy that converts requires emotion. If the reader doesn't feel anything, you may as well write your copy in hieroglyphics.

Knowing your audience is about:

🤕 The problem that lurks in the back of their mind every day - like a headache that's not quite a migraine but puts them in a perpetual bad mood.

🙁 It's a thing they've nearly given up on resolving but believe there's a solution they haven't yet discovered.

👉 It's about spending time in their shoes, walking through their day and seeing how this problem affects their lives.

This requires empathy. 

It's the only way to write copy that shows them you understand them so they trust you - and believe you can help them.

I opened my spam folder and found a ton of "just circling back" emails and one gem that started with "Dear {FirstName}."
