18 days. 3 countries. 9 events. What a journey this has been.

In 12 years of full-time speaking, I've never had a trip that took me away for so long. And as fate would have it, I was supposed to fly home tonight from Hartford after my final event but delays meant I wouldn't make my second flight...so I hopped in a rental and drove as fast as I could to La Guardia in NYC so as to catch a direct flight home.

Gratefully, I made it, as I was NOT about to tell my wife I wasn't making it home tonight! 😅 

Here is the trip by the numbers: • 13 speaking events (9 unique venues) • 18.8 hours on stage • 15 flights • 40.9 hours in the air • 20k + miles traveled • 3,000 + audience members • 1 Savannah Bananas Game 😃

As you would expect from this trip, there were many lessons.

1. It's not about the industry. It's not about the geography. It's about the buyer...and most buyers are pretty much the same. The companies that get this are winning.

2. Marketing, for the most part, hasn't really changed for 20 years. Most companies continue to do SEO, Paid Ads, some Social, and a little bit of Video. This needs to change and companies need to evolve.

3. Most businesses are not as obsessed with making a human-to-human connection with their customers as they need to be. This has nothing to do with AI and everything to do with "put yourself out there."

4. Speaking of AI, roughly 50% of my audience members said they are using ChatGPT more than they're using Google for search.

Without question, it was a special trip.

Thank you for all of you who saw me speak: the hugs, the high fives, the questions, the personal stories of wins and losses. You all were incredible. Keep going.

As for me, time to close my eyes on this final flight and get home to hug my sweet wife and kids.

Quick tip:

Don’t fall for the AI haters.
And don’t fall for the zealots either.

The haters will tell you it’s all hype (no real progress, no real use cases, no real anything.)

The zealots will tell you it’s perfect (utopia without jobs in 5 years)

Both get loud online because, as you well know, extremes get clicks. And for most people, once they start getting clicks, they can't seem to turn back the dial. 

The attention is simply too addictive.

Meanwhile, nuance doesn't trend.

Balance doesn’t go viral.

Just look at people in politics. Same deal.

But here's what I know to be true:

👉 AI is incredibly useful, powerful, and life-changing when used correctly.
👉 AI is incredibly frustrating, often unreliable, and generally misunderstood.

Both things can be true at the same time.

Personally, I’m fine standing right there in the middle - seeing the promise, noticing the flaws, and trying to figure out what’s actually working for real people.

It’s not the sexy spot.

And it certainly won’t blow up on LinkedIn.

But it’s the place that helps the most.

And that’s where you’ll find me.

Did you know the average "contact us" page has a 3-4% conversion rate?

Did you also know the average pricing estimator (i.e. calculator) on a website has a 41% conversion rate? 

Here's the most interesting part: 

👉 99% of websites have a "contact us" page.
👉 Less than 1% of websites have a pricing estimator/calculator. 

My point?

If you're a marketer or agency serious about generating more conversions going forward, it may be time to mature past simply making "contact us" your primary means of generating first party data.

Buyers have changed.

We need to evolve as well.

“You don’t just search here. You decide here.”

I've been thinking about this line for the last 24 hours.

As you've likely heard, ChatGPT just launched "Atlas" (its first browser) and it’s a direct shot across Google’s bow.

Is it a big deal? Yes. I believe it is. Let me explain.

For my first test I asked Atlas to tell me why it’s better than Chrome -  and why it’s not.

The response (including the quote you read at the beginning) was surprisingly honest:

👉 Research, writing, or analysis → Atlas wins. It summarizes, reasons, and creates.
👉 Web development or heavy browsing → Chrome wins. Speed + dev tools.
👉 Personalized workflows → Atlas wins. Memory + automation.
👉 Offline or lightweight browsing → Chrome wins. Simple and fast.
👉 Decision-making and synthesis → Atlas wins. It has a reasoning layer.

We can debate the details, but there is one thing I'm absolutely sure of:

The days of jumping between your browser and your AI tool are numbered.

Think about it. Such activity makes no sense, as it's grossly inefficient.

And remember, humans will ALWAYS choose less friction. 

Always.

Atlas, although clearly imperfect, delivers both: context and convenience.

Does this mean Chrome is dead? Of course not. (despite what link-baiters will tell you)

I'm sure Google have a ton up their sleeve...(even though it seems they keep finding themselves slower than ChatGPT to make some of these bold moves.)

I write all of this with one main point:

The "great convergence" has started.

Our future is one where search, work, and decision-making all happen in one seamless flow.

No jumping around.

All in one place.

And Atlas was the first domino.

"Just throw more money at Google Ads."

Ever heard that one before?

I have. More than once.

The problem is, the way we used to win with search, with rankings, and with ads is not delivering like it used to. (I'm sure you've noticed)

And it's not because your team got lazy. It's because the rules have changed...a lot.

Think about it:

👉 AI-generated answers
👉 Zero-click search
👉 Buyers getting the answers they need before they ever reach your site

Even if you're still ranking #1, I bet you’re still seeing less traffic. And that’s not a fluke, it’s the new norm, for everyone.

The 3 Eras of Online Discovery:

1️⃣  2000–2022 (The Search Era):
 It was all about getting found (by search engines) online.

2️⃣  2022–2025 (The ChatGPT Era):
 It became about getting found (by search engines) but also *recommended* by AI.

3️⃣  2026 and beyond (The Agent Era):
It will be about getting found, recommended, and *justified* by AI.

That’s right, AI won’t just tell us what to buy. It will tell us *why* to buy it.

Not just “Here’s the result" but “Here’s why this is the best fit for you.”

Do you see the profound difference in user experience here?

This is why the era of 10 blue links is closing.

This is also where search becomes truly "agentic."

Look at it like this:

👉 Your real estate "agent" doesn’t just send you listings, they explain why that house fits your life.

👉 Your travel "agent" doesn’t just book a trip, they explain why that itinerary fits your goals.

👉 Now, your AI "agent" will do the same.

It will know your preferences, your context, your intent - and then *justify* every recommendation it makes.

What does this mean for marketers and business leaders?

In the future, if someone’s AI agent doesn’t recommend (and justify) you…then they won't buy from you.

Sounds blunt, but it's as simple as that. 

Consumers will become *extraordinarly* dependant on the opinion and recommendations of their AI agent.

Yes, it's hard to imagine.

And no, I'm not here to celebrate or frown upon it.

I'm just reporting to you where this is all headed.

All the signs are already there. 

The era of “just showing up” online is over.

Welcome to the era of AI justification.

Actual conversation with my 15-year-old daughter this week:

Daughter: “I had an interesting chat with a friend recently.”

Me: “Tell me about it.”

Daughter: “Well, my friend was going on and on about ‘how lucky I was’ that our family gets to travel often because of your job and I had to tell him it wasn’t always as glamorous as it might sound, and that it really wasn’t so much about ‘luck’ at all.”

Me: “Well said, and then what happened?”

Daughter: “I told him that what he doesn’t see is that even though we do have incredible experiences together, it also means that we don’t get to see you as much as we’d like, and that you’re gone all the time.  I explained to him that you’ve missed most of my birthdays because you were out of town as well as many other occasions.”

Me: “Great response. I’m curious...was it all worth it?”

Daughter: (passionately) “Yes, of course it has been worth it. You’ve taught me the definition of hard work and sacrifice, as well as what can happen if you really put your energy towards something. I love our life and we’ve been very blessed as a family. But to me, that’s not luck. It’s very clear to me how we got here.”

As you might imagine, I was dang proud of her answer here, and gave her a big “dad-hug” afterwards.

But she’s right.

I get to travel the world to really cool places and events (often taking my family with me) and to many people, that seems like the ultimate life.

And it is beautiful.

But it’s not easy.

I’ve not been physically home for my wedding anniversary for 10 straight years. (We celebrate a different day each year)

I’ve eaten dinner alone for my birthday on at least 5 occasions in the last decade.

And yes, I’ve missed many events that I would have like to have seen.

At the same time, I get to lead an extraordinary life.

I’ve taken my kids all over the world.

Our family is full of joy and light.

This is the path we’ve chosen.

It’s not for everyone, but it’s right for us, and we’re grateful for it.
