Solutions aimed at either mitigating revenue impacts or improving increasingly complex interactions with the grid. 

Projects include: 
⚡️First of a kind: 300MW/600MWh BESS project (ICENI/OTNR project Boudicca), sharing the connection infrastructure with the worlds biggest single-connection offshore wind farm (Hornsea 3). Development through to FID
⚡️First of a kind: Early development of an Offshore Integrated Energy Hub (Project NEOS/Elan). Directly connecting an offshore wind farm to a neighboring gas production facility (to remove scope 1 emissions) and to power a carbon storage facility.
⚡️Route to market for a non-GB offshore wind generator to connect to the GB grid. Exploring options to connect to 2 markets (GB and Ireland), and to fully integrate to an onshore Energy Park/AI Growth Zone. As well as the conventional I.e radial/CfD
⚡️First of a kind: Early development of a LDES (using Liquid Air Energy Storage/LAES)) project, integrated onshore to and offshore wind farm. Using the project to provide live input into the design of the UK Govt’s LDES Cap & Floor scheme.

Chief Specialist/Director. Project Development System Integration

I had the exciting responsibility to see how we can use innovation to drive business case levers and improve grid interaction across our UK project development portfolio. This means having the opportunity to play around with energy storage, hydrogen, interconnectors and new routes to market such as platform electrification. I also get to investigate everything such as technical feasibility, commercial opportunities and whether the routes to market exist or whether we need to make them through regulatory change.

Projects included:

⚡️Project development manager: Orsted EBI / Project Boudica, Feasibility for large scale BESS to be co-located at the Hornsea3 Offshore Wind Farm Onshore Substation.
⚡️Project Manager: Project Neos, NSTA funded feasibility study of decarbonising a gas platform located in the Southern North Sea using electricity provided by a direct connection to an Offshore Windfarm in close proximity.
⚡️Project Manager: OTNR Infrastructure Coordination for Hornsea4 Offshore Windfarm and National Grid Ventures Continental Link.
⚡️Commercial Project Manager: Gigastack FEED, responsible for enabling the future connection of Gigastack to the Hornsea2 Offshore Windfarm Onshore Substation.
⚡️Market entry Borselle Offshore Wind Farm. Project manager to integrate the Netherlands 1st offshore wind farm to the Dutch electricity market.

System Integration Innovation Manager (Offshore Wind UK)

⚡️Leading the market entry activities (Ancillary Services, Balancing Mechanism) for Orsted’s 1st commercial BESS in the UK (Carnegie Road) including integration within Orsted’s internal business processes.
⚡️Setting up asset management and operations activities for Orsted’s 1st BESS
Leading change with UK power sector stakeholders i.e. National Grid, BEIS, OFGEM, LCCC, Elexon to support faster implementation of energy storage in the UK
⚡️Securing ‘1st of a kind’ approval for 30m2 for Energy Balancing Infrastructure (EBI) within the planning envelope of the onshore substation for the next large windfarm planning application.

Built SIEMENS’ Energy Management Division’s energy storage business in the UK, comprising the go-to-market strategy and delivery vehicle for turnkey grid scale energy storage projects. Specific achievements include:
⚡️Developed a virtual team of experts from different business units to sell, deliver and service turnkey energy storage projects.
⚡️Built the business plan to define the best delivery vehicle and justify resource investment
⚡️Defined the strategy for future business sustainability i.e. new technology requirements, skills development etc.
⚡️Coordinated the development of application solutions such as the EMS control system and a scenario planning tool 
⚡️Coordinated the development of business case calculations and simulation tools.
⚡️Worked with universities to develop asset management and asset health tools.

The above resulted in a close to GW pipeline of named projects, considerable forecasted OI of growth, and the team infrastructure needed to address rapidly growing/challenging market conditions.

Responsible for business development of active power systems/energy storage and coordination of all associated business activities for South and South-East Asia and the UK. This involves defining how MV Converter applications can be implemented into the existing and future grid scenarios in order to provide technically and commercially viable flexibility tools to accelerate both the integration and better utilisation of renewable energy globally. 

Also responsible for delivery of phase 1 of a recent global go-to-market strategy for Energy Storage, Grid Coupling and Power Quality applications including analysis or market vis-à-vis current as-is position and definition of the way forward regarding technology innovation, partnership development, organisational structure and action plan.

Also represented the UK on the European Commission (Horizon2020) Advisory Group for Energy (AGE), following 2 years of being a project evaluator for ‘smart system’ related funding applications.

Niche expertise in knowing how the whole energy system works and how to ‘bolt things together’; (energy system integration) from a technical, regulatory, commercial and financial investment perspective.  

This experience has enabled several first of a kind projects to be deployed from early development to operations including through investment decision. One example is the 1st BESS project to be connected to offshore wind transmission infrastructure.
