As Financial Controller I was responsible for:-

Production of consolidated monthly management reports for Group including variance analysis and profit bridge
Provision of information for a number of Non Trading Cost Centres including Directorate and Finance 
Production of monthly KPI’s and commentary for Board Pack
Preparation of budgets and forecasts including cash flow for A Nelson & Co and Consolidation for Group 
Preparation of draft Corporation Tax Returns for Accountants
Preparation of draft Stat Accounts for Accountants
Management of team of 7, including payroll, Financial Accountant and ledgers
Recruitment and setting of objectives for team
Cash management
Liaison with External Auditors for year-end Audit

I initially joined Vergo in April 2009 as the Assistant Financial Controller.  During the interview process the existing Financial Controller indicated he planned to retire during 2010.  Following his retirement I was promoted the position of Financial Controller in March 2010.

Vergo expanded rapidly in 2009 with the acquisition of 5 stores in March and then a further 12 stores in July which took the number of department and homestores it operated to 20 with a turnover of £50m.

On 7th May 2010 Vergo entered Administration and consequently it is with regret that I am seeking new employment.  My principal role includes:

Production of daily and forward looking cashflow forecasts
Negotiating with suppliers regarding payment plans
Production and review of Management Accounts
Productions of annual budgets and cashflow
Cost reductions and restructuring project
Management and recruitment of a team of 10
Implementation of store reports across newly acquired stores
National Statistic returns
Member of the senior management team, reporting directly to the Managing Director
Company Secretary
Liaising with auditors regarding year end audit and going concern review
Working with administrators to provide key information regarding the financials of the company and its operations.

Despite entering Administration my brief employment at Vergo has provided me with broad experience, both positive and negative, in acquisition, system integration following acquisition and people management during a period of recession and limited working capital.

Dealing with enquiries relating to HMRC investigations for EBT’s and previous loan scheme payments including section 9a enquiries and tax demands with the ability to work to strict deadlines
Understanding the law and legislation regarding the tax demands and investigations for previous tax years
Reviewing the laws the contract is under as well as querying with the agencies any clauses that do not fit with our product and how we run

Compliance - HMRC Specialist

Managing the day to day running of the 8 person client service team and assisting with queries as required
Managing queries regarding payments from contractors, including breakdowns of their pay, tax and NI deductions as well as discussing any further tax deductions at HMRC’s request
Delegating work to the team ensuring each member is comfortable with the work and assist them with anything they are unsure of
Assisting the manager of the customer service team in setting SLA’s for the team
Understanding the law and legislation regarding the tax demands and investigations for previous tax year
Assisting in training in what is and is not acceptable KYC, ensuring the team understand why it is important
Reviewing all contractors for PEP and sanctions, CCJ’s and any insolvency raising alerts for any that pose a possible risk to the business to senior management
Reviewing contracts for services between us and the agencies – ensuring all clauses are correct and we do not automatically breach any. Due to the nature of our business we could possibly be in automatic breach of certain clauses unless they are queried before signing

Deputy Manager Customer Service

Handling queries regarding payments from contractors, including breakdowns of their pay, tax and NI deductions 
Explaining the product to new contractors and trying to get them to on-board with our product 
On boarding new applications paying particular attention to their right to work
Reviewing all KYC ensuring it is acceptable in line with FSA regulations
Running all passports through an online check along with any visas
Ensuring all visas are up to date and allow the applicant to work freely within the UK
