I was hired to lead the Content Marketing function but nearly got the sack after spending my time designing pretty slides instead of getting leads. Once I got my sh*t together, we grew SEO traffic 10x from ~20k to ~200k/month and first-touch sign-ups from 0 to ~1k/month. We also launched a fun little podcast called 'The Humans Strike Back.'

I then moved on to Product Marketing and repositioned Hotjar from 'all-in-one analytics & feedback' to 'behavior analytics,' making it the complement to traditional web analytics. We ran multiple experiments to test the new positioning, generating big uplifts in accounts created (mainly from the homepage).

My proudest project was the launch of the Hotjar Lightning Talks. Most virtual events are super boring, sales-y, and loOoOong. So, we took a risk and did something different. A 5-day virtual event for ecommerce folks, with 5 talks a day, but 5 minutes (!!!) each. Thousands of people registered. It was really fun to go against the grain on this one.

It’s been interesting watching the conversation unfold this week…

With The Times and the BBC calling out Sweaty Betty for lifting language from smaller brands and creators, I feel it’s the right moment to set the record straight - not from a legal standpoint, but a moral one.

Is it women-empowering for a big brand to borrow copy from smaller female-founded businesses and grassroots creators? Not really. The bigger issue is that rather than acknowledging that three of their slogans are ridiculously similar to a smaller brand's work, they are sticking with the narrative that legally it isn't wrong. That's not the issue here. The issue is that it is morally wrong!

We are a small team of 4 women, we have a tiny marketing budget and we have to be really clear about our messaging as we are fighting for space with all the other bigger brands.  Compare us to Sweaty Betty huge marketing team - surely they could have come up with something different?!

When the balance of power is not in your favour, it's very difficult to make your voice heard. We didn't reach out to Sweaty Betty when it first happened as we knew legally (and it is a grey area) we had no ownership of the slogans - however we did tag them in the below post. We only felt comfortable and brave enough to speak out after Georgina Cox led the way. This is about accountability not recompense.

So imagine our surprise when a slightly familiar phrase popped up in Sweaty Betty new campaign. (No ifs, just... déjà vu?)

We’re flattered, honestly.

I found it difficult to put into words just how amazing this trip (not a race!) was, luckily 
Sam Teale has articulated it beautifully within this documentary.

Amazing for so many reasons but especially because I remembered that I can do hard things. That I thrive under pressure and that a sense of humour can get you through some very sticky situations! Any time I feel like something is too hard I remember the traffic in Bangalore and that I navigated it without freaking out and without killing anyone!

Forever grateful to have spent this time with so many incredible women who I am proud to call my friends and a huge thank you to Emma Sayle & Frankie James for organising the trip of a lifetime.

So we.... Me and the Thelma to my Louise Frankie James did a thing in march ... rounded up 54 women...epic female founders to be exact

Boycotted IWD and sitting on meaningless panels circling the same annual drain of hot air.... and did a thing

Drove 1200km across India from Chennai to Goa over 6 days... yes WE drove them NO we didnt have drivers... and yes 100% there is a reason why less than 2% of women in India drive over there IT WAS GNARLY

But it was life changing, soul filling , utter midlife women madness remembering who we all were before the world and just life told us who we should be/ are supposed to be 

And... we raised £150k which is building classrooms, study blocks and providing life saving post birth maternal care for thousands of women
