Overheard on a friend’s Slack: “I am trying to avoid enabling anyone outside Product to be able to message the devs directly.”

These “devs” should be grateful that someone is protecting them from having to interact with anyone in their company outside of their comfortable product engineering cocoon, right?

Seriously, where does this attitude come from? I have my ideas about it, but the cause really doesn’t matter.

If your colleagues don’t even want to identify by name the people who are building your product, then you have a catastrophic gap between engineering and your business, one that makes both the business and engineering less effective.

Solution: stop treating engineers like a mechanical appendage to your personal delivery fiefdom, and get them directly into the game.

They should be messaging *us* directly!

The best leaders treat you like a peer. They may have more knowledge and experience. Often, they do not. They may be right most of the time. Or they might not.

But no matter what, they don’t use positional authority to undermine or diminish you. An organizational hierarchy should exist to maximize the success of the individuals and teams that it comprises. Sometimes, it does not.

Titles are temporary, the abuse of authority is weakness, and outside the office, nobody is your boss.

Unfortunately, our guest trainer had to cancel his appearance with us this month. We hope to see him again. But the Berlin Collaborative Modeling Meetup soldiers on!

We're going to move up the queue an idea we've been brewing in the background for a few months now: going from nothing to fully functioning software (thanks to AI coding assistance) in one action-packed evening! The secret ingredient? Naturally, it's EventStorming.

We'll start with our usual modeling process but then move into a mob coding session with a friendly AI helper and actually try to build working software from our model. If we're successful, we'll be able to go from nothing to something, zero to one, in a single Meetup evening. Call it… vibe architecture?
