My main responsibilities as a traffic planner included organizing tire transports to assigned countries, checking and optimizing delivery flow. Other daily tasks included forecasting the loading plan for the following days, offering support in occurring problems related to missing tires and solving issues like shipment delays.

As an operator during the 2011 Population & Housing Census, my main tasks were to identify any errors that could have occurred in the questionnaires, correct these errors and then introduce the correct data in the system. For 20 years, HR systems were oversized databases with workflows glued on top. forms, fields, approvals, dashboards.

I’ve gone through 100+ HR podcasts, interviewed founders and operators, read countless articles and case studies, and there’s one thing I can confidently say after all this deep digging:

That era is DONE.

AI is about to tear the category apart, and rebuild it from scratch.

IMO, 70% of today’s HRIS value chain is obsolete.

Because HR doesn’t need another system of record. HR needs a workforce operating system that understands the company better than the company understands itself.

This is where things get real:

1. HRIS will become an autonomous system, not a tool you maintain, a system that maintains you.

2. Employee records → talent intelligence profiles

3. Skills become the OS, titles die. static JDs die, AI-powered skills graphs run talent decisions, mobility, workforce planning, and capability building.

4. dashboards disappear -> decision intelligence takes over.

5. HRIS becomes the company’s work graph. Projects, skills used, outcomes, communication patterns, learning data, all connected. You get predictive pipelines for hiring, mobility, leadership, and capability gaps.

6. HR stops owning HRIS. The C-suite takes over. This becomes a CFO/COO/CPO system as much as HR’s.

7. HRIS starts coaching managers, not passively storing data, actively telling managers what’s happening and what to do. “sentiment dropped this week, here’s why.”

8. it becomes the company’s internal brain. Capture → understand → predict → recommend → execute → learn. A self-improving organism.

and that’s why the future HRIS is not an HRIS.

it’s a workforce intelligence system.

a talent operating system.

a company brain.

this is the decade where HRtech gets rebuilt from zero.

and only the products that embrace this shift will stay relevant.

Something product leaders don’t talk about enough.

everyone loves to preach “be close to your users.”

sounds cute. sounds product-y. looks good on a slide.

but in B2B?

that line becomes useless the moment you’re dealing with real accounts, real politics, and real money.

here’s the part nobody tells you:

B2B product leaders need strong, unapologetically direct relationships with their Tier 1 accounts.

and no, i’m not saying turn yourself into an account manager or a CSM.

i’m talking about a different kind of relationship:

the kind where your primary stakeholder feels comfortable enough to call you at 10pm and say, “your product is shit, fix it.”

that’s the level.

that’s the bar.

not “let’s schedule a feedback call 🤓☝🏻.”

not “send me your requirements in the ticket.”

not “let the CSM collect the notes.”

i’m talking about an honest product feedback river, unfiltered, unpolitical, coming straight from the people whose business depends on you.

because here’s the hidden truth:

your Tier 1 accounts will expose every weakness in your product before anyone else does.

they have the most usage. the most complexity. the most to lose. and they have zero patience for your pretty frameworks or your “we’ll put this in discovery” rituals.

if you’re serious about building a product that matters:

you need to be in their WhatsApp

you need to hear their frustration early and raw

you need to understand their world better than they do

you need to feel their pain points in your bones

that’s how you build judgment. that’s how you build instinct. and that’s how you build a product that actually wins.

and yes, your Tier 1 accounts should have a close place in your roadmap’s heart. but not blindly.

the rule is superrrrr simple:

if the problem is real, repeatable, scalable, aligned with your product vision, and solves a big capability gap across your market → it deserves your attention.

most product leaders keep their distance from major accounts because they’re scared:

scared to hear the truth.

scared to get blamed.

scared to deal with politics.

scared to admit parts of the product are breaking.

but that distance is exactly why they fail.

great B2B product leaders, the people who actually ship category-defining systems, they run toward the discomfort.

they build relationships that cut through the nonsense.

they listen without ego.

they solve root causes, not tickets.

they shape vision through the loudest, rawest signals.

this isn’t the glamorous side of product leadership. but it’s the real one.
and if you want to build a product your market can’t live without… your Tier 1 accounts aren’t stakeholders. they’re your second brain.
