I had the opportunity to shadow top management executives at Johnson & Johnson Worldwide Headquarters in New Jersey in September 2016 to experience first-hand their daily work.

My first assignment was in the company’s Supply Chain Management Headquarters in Bridgewater, New Jersey where I attended numerous conference calls and meetings with Managers and Directors.

I then spent time at the Consumer Headquarters in Skillman, New Jersey shadowing one of the Franchise Project Managers. I participated in several meetings in the Marketing and Supply Chain Management departments. I also conducted one-on-one interviews with Brand Managers, Supply Chain Planners and Analysts during my time there.

Florence Nightingale watched soldiers die from diseases that were completely preventable.

She had the data to prove it. Her tables were full of numbers showing that poor sanitation was killing more men than battlefield wounds ever did.

But Parliament wasn't listening.

So she stopped handing them tables. She built what we now call the polar area diagram. It was circular, color coded, and visually undeniable. Blue represented disease deaths. Red represented wounds. The blue sections dwarfed everything else on the page.

Paired with her political might, members of Parliament who would never have read a statistical report sat up and paid attention.
Sanitation reform followed and the death rate collapsed.

The data did not change. The way she showed it did.

That is still the most important lesson in communication. The truth is not enough on its own. It needs to be shared in a way that hits home for your particular audience.

We simply communicate complex technology using CGI.

I make videos but I don't call myself a content creator.

I prefer to describe myself as a communication engineer.

Why?

Content is the primary component of communication. But it is not the same as communication.

Content needs to be engineered with precision, timed for impact, tailored to convey value that the receiver can appreciate and can act on. Then, you have communication.

As one of my teammates would say, communication is the finished, functional structure.

As much as it is an art, it is a science.

Which product visuals actually help buyers understand complex tech, and which ones just look expensive?

At its core, buying decisions are still made by humans.

No matter how advanced the product, someone on the other side still needs to get it before they act.

That made me think about what "understanding" actually requires. Because most product visuals are built to impress, not to transfer comprehension.

10 few years ago, I'd have said any high-quality 3D render was enough.

Today, I'm less certain.

The visuals that close deals aren't the ones with the highest polygon count. They're the ones that collapse the distance between what the product does and what the buyer needs to feel.

There's a difference.

A spec diagram tells you what something does. A well-built product visualization shows you consequences — in context, in motion, with the consequence of not having it visible in the frame.

It's like the difference between reading a weather report and standing in the rain.

At Machine Mythology, we've been watching which visual formats actually move deals forward. 

A few patterns worth tracking: interactive cross-sections that let buyers control what they see, real-use simulations over isolated renders, and side-by-side infrastructure comparisons that make the differentiation undeniable without requiring a 45-minute explanation.

We're still learning what works in which context. There're variables like industry, buyer sophistication, deal size.

A team of engineers from SpaceX, Apple, NASA, and Caltech walked into the hardest corner of robotics.

Not the corner trying to make robots walk like us. The corner building machines that work where we can't.

Factory floors, unstable terrain, and jobs so physically demanding that most automation doesn't survive the first shift. The dull, dirty and dangerous work that keeps the world's industries running.

That team is Noble Machines. Yesterday they stepped out of stealth, with their robots already running inside a Fortune Global 500 facility. Eighteen months of work in the background before the world got to see it.

I love watching teams take on the jobs that genuinely need solving.

Congrats to the Noble Machines team on a massive milestone.

And to Nikhil Choudhary  at Nirman Ventures, backing a team like this before the world caught up. That is the job done right.

On to the next 18 months.

Here's a brutally simple test for any video you make: Can you show it to your intended audience without saying a single word first?

You will say nothing like; "Okay, skip to 1:45 for the good part," or "Let me just explain what's happening here."

Great videos don't need a warm-up act. They are the main event. And they require no follow-up explanations because the next step for the viewer is always obvious.

So, does your most important video pass the test?

Have you ever felt like you're flying blind when the CEO asks for the ROI of your 3D animation video? (Or maybe you're the CEO who feels like you're flying blind.)

I ask because last week, I connected with a startup founder on X who had made some incredible animations for her product. When I asked how she measured their effectiveness, she just laughed nervously and said, "Likes and shares, I guess?"

That's when it hit me: so many marketing executives and tech founders must be in the same boat. And honestly, it makes sense since we can't just stamp a "BUY NOW" button on a video.

However, as Peter Drucker famously said, “You can't manage what you can't measure.” There are several KPIs you can use to measure ROI; it all depends on the video's specific goal.

For a marketing video (Animated or not), here are my top three metrics that are directly tied to ROI:

💡 Landing Page Impact (A/B Testing): Don't send all your traffic to one generic page. Give each video its own dedicated landing page. The traffic and conversion rates from each page become direct, undeniable proof of performance.

💡 Coupon Codes & Tracked Offers: Remember those old infomercials that said, "Call now and mention CODE TV17!?" That tactic is timeless. Assign each video a unique promo code or short link. Redemptions are about as direct as proof of impact gets.

💡 Pipeline Velocity: This measures how quickly people take a desired action after watching your video. Do they sign up for a trial faster? Fill out a contact form sooner? A faster-moving pipeline means your video is effectively warming up your audience.

If you're unsure where to start, tools like Vidyard, Wistia, and Vimeo video have great built-in analytics.

And remember: never rely solely on direct revenue, but never ignore it either. I'll be sharing more deep dives on KPIs in the future, so keep tracking everything you can.

I feel like my brain is just a browser with 70 tabs open, 69 of which are "things I had to do like yesterday."

Who else knows this feeling?

Back when I was working with companies like CNN, that was my life. Every idea sounded urgent. Every task felt important. Before long... burnout.

Even now, as CEO of Machine Mythology, I still catch myself wanting to do everything. It’s a hard habit to kill.

But here’s what I do to stop being a disorganized mess. I focus on;
💡 Must do Tasks—the 20% that actually moves revenue, pipeline, or visibility.
💡 Should do Tasks—only after must-do’s are wrapped up.
💡 Everything else—someone else’s lane. Let them shine.

If you’re in tech sales, engineering, or marketing leadership, this is everything. Your job isn’t to juggle it all. Protect your energy and focus on the levers only you can pull.

And I have to say this again: burnout is not progress.
