There are only two components to succeeding as an political and/or membership organisation:

1. Lowering barriers for taking the desired action (with you)
2. Increasing motivation for said action until it surpasses (1)

A lot of organisations struggle in the first category. They might feel their cause speak’s for itself. Or they often ask too much, too early of their target audiences. 

They might be excellent at building motivation, but they still fail to achieve the desired outcome; be it increasing fundraising revenue, keeping existing or attracting new members/supporters, winning an issue, etc.

As a result they spend even more time and money on building motivation; through campaigning, mobilisation, rapid response, etc but they still fail again and again.

In addition they start questioning their practices; Is our paid media not up to snuff? Is our e-mail marketing the problem? Should we get a new telemarketing agency? They might even look at replacing staff members.

They knew Instagram was destroying teen girls.

They chose profits anyway.

Meta's leaked internal research exposed the biggest corporate coverup of our generation.

🔴 13% of 13-15 year-olds get sexual advances on Instagram EVERY WEEK

🔴 1 in 3 teen girls say Instagram worsens their body image

🔴 27% of teen girls experience harmful social comparison in just 7 days

But here's what makes my blood boil:

Meta TESTED hiding "Likes." It reduced harm to teen girls.

They kept the feature anyway.
Why?

Removing it would cut ad revenue by 1%.

💰 They literally chose 1% more profit over teen mental health.

An internal researcher wrote this in a company chat:

"IG is a drug. We're basically pushers. We are causing Reward Deficit Disorder."

Another employee warned:

"If these results leak, won't we look like tobacco companies that knew cigarettes killed people?"

They KNEW.

The most sinister part?

The algorithm actively targets vulnerable teens.

Girls already struggling with body image were fed 3X MORE eating disorder content than other users.

It's not a bug. It's the business model.

Arturo Bejar  a Meta senior leader whose own daughter was harassed on Instagram said it best:

"Instagram hosts the largest-scale sexual harassment of teens to have ever happened."

He personally briefed executives.

They did nothing.

So when Mark Zuckerberg testified under oath:

"The existing body of scientific work has not shown a causal link between social media and worse mental health outcomes"

He was lying.

His own researchers proved causation.

One internal study literally concluded: "The study shows causal impact."

We're not talking about "screen time" or "digital natives."

We're talking about:
- 90 million people with severe addiction
- Weekly sexual harassment of millions of children
- Algorithms designed to exploit insecurity
- Executives who chose revenue over suicide prevention

This isn't a tech problem.

It's a tobacco moment.

They have the research. They have the evidence. They have the blood on their hands.

And they're betting we'll keep scrolling.

Want to learn how to unlearn modernity?
Modernity taught us to see the world through separation.

Mind over body.
Humans over nature.
Reason over care.
Control over relationship.

In this worldview, the feminine was pushed aside.
Women’s knowledge was dismissed.
Care work became invisible.
And nature was treated as something to dominate, extract from, and manage.

The result is the world we live in today.
An economic system that exploits ecosystems.
A culture that undervalues care.

But beneath these stories lies a deeper truth we have forgotten.
Ecology comes first.
Life is relational.
And humans are part of the living systems we depend on.

I used to read “deer crossing” signs as a warning about the animal. Now I read them as a warning about us.

There’s a quiet arrogance in the way we describe it: “The deer is crossing the road.”

But look again.
A forest existed long before the asphalt line.
The deer is not the intruder. The road is.

I’ve noticed the same pattern in change work.

We try to create impact while keeping the worldview that caused the harm:
that humans are separate from nature, separate from consequences, separate from each other.

That’s the dip. It’s uncomfortable because it’s not about bad intentions.
It’s about a hidden assumption sitting under strategy, policy, even “purpose.”

The lift came when I started practicing a different starting point:
we’re inside the living system.

When you lead from that place, you don’t just ask “How do we move faster?”
You ask “How do we move without cutting the forest into pieces?”

This shift is what we practice in Beyond Duality. Not as philosophy, but as a practical way to see and act.

The science on wealth taxes is settled.

People opposing it are either protecting their own wealth or letting ideology override evidence.

Here is what the research actually says:

Inequality kills growth. Not wealth taxes.

The IMF studied decades of cross-country data:
"Higher inequality lowers growth."

The OECD calculated that rising inequality cost European economies up to 6% in cumulative GDP growth.

The thing opponents say will hurt the economy is already hurting the economy, right now, by locking capital away from productive use.

Wealth taxes can actually CREATE jobs.

Researchers at IZA (Institute of Labor Economics) studied Norway's wealth tax across thousands of firms over 12 years.

Their conclusion destroyed the narrative:

"We find NO evidence that a wealth tax adversely affects employment. To the contrary, we find a POSITIVE relationship between the wealth tax and employment growth."

Why? Because owners invest in their businesses, in people, rather than letting wealth sit in passive assets.

Sweden has more billionaires per capita than the United States.

It had a wealth tax for decades.

Denmark and Norway match or exceed the US on hourly labour productivity.

The Nordic model didn't succeed despite high taxes. It succeeded with them.

And no, millionaires are not fleeing.

The EU Tax Observatory (Zucman et al., 2025) reviewed all of Europe's history with wealth taxes.

In France, a 1pp tax increase on large fortunes reduced wealthy taxpayer numbers by 0.003% to 0.03% per year.

LSE researchers interviewed 35 people from Britain's top 1% of wealth holders. Not one was planning to leave for tax reasons.

One said: "If everyone left for taxes, we'd all be in Dubai. Nobody wants to be in Dubai."

Only 150 millioners left Norway after the implementing of a new wealth tax that is 0.3% and the overall the Norwegian wealth tax increase employments. 

So why does the opposition keep going?

There are only two honest answers:

1. Self-interest — a wealth tax directly costs the people loudest in opposing it.

2. Ideology — a genuine belief that concentrated wealth is natural and good, regardless of what the evidence shows.

Both are legitimate positions.

But they should be stated honestly, not dressed up as economics.

Europe is facing a public investment crisis.

Crumbling infrastructure. Underfunded healthcare. A green transition that needs hundreds of billions.

Meanwhile the top 0.1% of Europeans own more than the bottom 50% combined,  and pay a lower effective tax rate than a nurse.

The science says a wealth tax would raise revenue, reduce inequality, boost growth, fund public investment, and barely move the emigration needle.

The only question left is whether our politicians have the courage to act on it , or whether they'll keep pretending that billionaire lobbying is the same thing as evidence.
