If you're getting spam events showing up automatically in your calendar, and you use Google for your email, this is how you stop it:

👉 In Google Calendar, go to your settings
👉 Choose "Event Settings"
👉 Find "Add invitations to my calendar"

And choose either:

✅ Only if the sender is known
or
✅ When I respond to the invitation in email

I also chose to hide declined events so I didn't have to look at the old ones.

Do you have more impressions on your comments than your posts? 

Use it to your advantage!!

🤔 How?

Make sure your headline states VERY clearly what you do and who you help.

🤔 Why? 

Because all of those people looking at your comments are potential clients.

But they won't see your profile or your posts. All they'll see is your picture and your headline (the little blurb next to your pic).

So, you need to make sure your headline...

👉 Says what you do – at the very front. Headlines get cut off (especially on mobile) so don't start with something clever or where you went to college or a hobby. Start with "Financial Advisor" or "Financial Planner" 

👉 Says who you help – again near the front. "Financial advisor helping millenials..." "Financial planner for medical professionals..." 

That way, when someone sees your comment, they ALSO see what you do and who you help.

And, if they are looking for a financial advisor, and they fit your "who we help" target market, chances are they will visit your profile to learn more.

Nobody warned me this would be the hardest part of this profession.

The clients I remember most aren't the ones with the biggest portfolios.
They're the ones who reached out to me when they needed answers.

The law firm owner who lost his partner.
The widow who had no idea what her husband had.
The client retiring and wondering if they'll have enough income.

After 30 years, I've learned money is just the tool.

What I actually do is show up when they need me.

That's the job nobody puts on a business card.

Being the person someone calls when their life changes.
That's the privilege of this work.

I keep scheduling 60-minute coffee meetings. 

They never end in 60 minutes. 

I'm not going to apologizing for it. 😉 

Wednesday morning I sat down for coffee with Monica Ishak, 
a criminal defense attorney in the West Palm Beach area who
I'd only been connected with here on LinkedIn for a few months.

What I didn't expect was that it would feel like 
catching up with someone I'd known for years.

We laughed, we swapped "horror" stories from our younger days, 
and somewhere in between all of that I asked her why she became 
an attorney and why she landed in criminal defense specifically. 

And just like so many of the attorneys I've had the privilege of 
sitting across from, it came from something real that happened in her life. 

Funny how that works, isn't it?

Here's something cool I can share too.  

Monica is actually the one who planted the seed for the "Frank's My Guy Hat." So there's that. 😎

Monica is full of energy, full of great ideas, and she is absolutely in growth mode right now. I also picked up two things I didn't know going in, she's expanding into personal injury cases, and she has experience as a wedding planner.

That last one may come in very handy for a certain father of the bride in the not-so-distant future. 😉

Our conversation never had that awkward "we just met" feeling that can creep into a first meeting. It just flowed from the very beginning, and that's the power of building the relationship on LinkedIn before you ever sit down together. 

By the time you shake hands (or hug in my case), you're already warmed up.

I got so caught up in the conversation that I forgot to take a picture. 

I have done this before!  So I grabbed one off her LinkedIn timeline.

"How much time do you spend on LinkedIn?"

It's a fair question.

It's not a billboard on I-95 that costs $3,000 a month.

It's not a radio ad nobody remembers.

It's not a cold call to someone who doesn't know you.

My last 5 new clients came directly from LinkedIn.

Zero ad spend.

Just showing up consistently with something worth reading.

Law firm owners are on this platform every day.

They're reading, scrolling and watching to see who shows up.

The question isn't whether LinkedIn moves the needle.

The question is whether you're on it when your next client is looking?
Are you on LinkedIn consistently or just when you remember to be?

It's a simple concept. 
With a powerful result. 

When you know exactly who someone's looking for 
and how they want to be connected, referrals actually happen.

Here's the real challenge when you're well connected... 
you actually know a lot of good people.

After 5 or 6 years together, the opportunities are everywhere. 

The question isn't whether you have someone to refer. 

It's having the confidence to say to someone:
"I'm connected to a number of excellent professionals, 
and for your particular situation, I feel strongly that I 
should introduce you to one of them that'll be helpful."

That's the moment. 

Yet most people hesitate right there, 
and it's not because they don't care, 
but because they aren't sure how to frame it.

Friday's exercise helped with exactly that. 

And once you have that green light, the email handshake, 
a technique I learned from Bill Cates, The Original Referral Coach,
makes the actual connection clean, professional, and pressure-free.

Truthfully, just handing someone a name and number doesn't count. 

If everyone who'd ever received my contact info had actually called... 
let's just say I'd be on a Greek island right now sipping Ouzo.

The real value isn't in the contact. 
It's in the thoughtful, well-timed connection that makes someone say
 "I'm so glad you introduced us."

After 34 years in financial services, 
I finally figured out the most powerful phrase in my profession.

And I learned it from attorneys. 😎 

"It depends." 🤓 

Here's a few examples.

Client: "Should I buy or lease the new BMW?"
Me: It depends.

Client: "Is a SEP-IRA or Solo 401(k) better for me?"
Me: It depends.

Client: "Frank, are you going to tell me anything definitive today?"
Me: ...it depends. 🤣

Here's the thing, when your financial situation is as complex 
as a law firm owner's, cookie-cutter answers are dangerous.

The right plan "depends" on YOUR numbers. 
YOUR structure. 
YOUR goals.

Not some template built for someone else.

And definitely not the "Plotnick 3000" that everyone pushes.

If your advisor gives you confident answers before 
asking a LOT of questions,  you might want to run.

I had to choose between my sanity and my ego.

Should I stay in management and work with my clients??

Or resign from management and only work with my clients?

You think it's a simple choice. Except it wasn't.

I was constantly worried what others would think.

I worried about what others would say.

I continually asked myself if the 5-6 years would be a waste if I walked away.

My business partner was likely sick and tired of me talking about it so much, and she could see it on my face....which if you know me tells you all you
need to know about what I think about something.

I was drained both mentally and emotionally and I lost my way.

It took me passing out on the bathroom floor to realize something had to change.

After some long talks and many sleepless nights, I finally made up my mind.

I walked away from management.

Not because I failed at it, although some may have thought that, and
they're entitled to their own opinions.

But because I finally got honest with myself about what I was built for.

Sometimes we need to realize our work "here" is done.
Sometimes we need to admit that there's things going on that'
we don't want to tolerate any longer.

The hard choice was made, but I didn't lose anything. 
In fact, I was able to find my way back.
Back to the person I used to be.  Smiling, happy, good mood.
Positive energy.  And I started feeling better too.

Those years weren't wasted.

They made me a better advisor.

Here's what I know now:
Choosing yourself isn't quitting.
Sometimes it's the only move that makes sense.

I win.
My clients win.

If you're standing at a similar fork in the road, exhausted, 
second-guessing, afraid of what people will say.........
this is your sign that you have decision to make.

The path that scares you might be the right one.

Risk management and wealth management go hand in hand.

You can't have one without the other.

Most attorneys learn this the hard way.

One lawsuit. One disability. One bad tax year.

Years of progress....poooof.....gone.

That's why the attorneys I work with don't just have a growth plan.

They have a protection plan.

Because building wealth you're not protecting?
That's not a strategy.
That's a gamble.

Your firm's biggest risk isn't market volatility. 

It's the absence of your partner.

Two founding partners of a law firm.
Together for 18 years. 

They've been splitting everything 50/50.

Then one of them has a stroke at 54.

Now the healthy partner is running the entire firm solo.

At the same time trying to figure out how to buy out his partner's half.

They never did an agreement.
They never planned for this.
There isn't enough money.

The firm's worth $3 million. 
He doesn't have $1.5 million sitting around. 

The bank won't loan it without cash flow to support it. 

And his partner's family needs income now.

So the firm gets sold at a discount.

Both partners end up losing.

This happens more than you think.

Death. Disability. Divorce. Departure. 

One of them will happen. 

If you don't have a funded buy-sell agreement, 
you're gambling with everything you've built.

Stock market crashes recover. 

Partnership disasters like this don't.
