Our youngest reviewers were Ivy’s children, and their reactions were all the feedback we needed.

Balanced sweetness from homemade pineapple jam, familiar flavours, and a texture that holds beautifully even without gluten.

Early Childhood Trainee Educator | Uli’s Kitchen Founder | Creator of JulesAI OS | 24 Years in Tech | Lifelong Learner

A recent 2026 strategy session I attended made me rethink how I want to show up this year.


Two reminders stayed with me:

🎗️Let’s build a culture of progress, not a culture of perfection or comparison.

🎗️If you fail, try again. Think of failure as paying the success tax.

That mindset followed me into the kitchen. I experimented with baking Pandan Pastel de Nata.

The result wasn’t perfect. The crust was firmer than intended, likely due to a combination of oven limitations and dough handling.

But the pandan custard was exactly right ~ fragrant, balanced, and not too sweet, thanks to fresh pandan leaves and coconut milk.

The process didn’t go exactly as planned, but the taste reminded me why I bake in the first place ~ for comfort, balance, and learning.

Progress doesn’t always look perfect and that’s often the point.

A horseshoe cake, ahead of the Horse year 🐎


Tapak Kuda literally means Horseshoe in Malay.

With the Year of the Horse coming up on the Chinese calendar, it felt like a fitting bake to explore, even if unintentionally.

This one wasn’t technically “perfect”.
The layers ended up inverted, and the cocoa swirl didn’t land where I planned.

But the outcome mattered more:
	🤎 An ultra-soft sponge
	🤎 Balanced sweetness with Biscoff
	🤎 A generous filling, true to what Tapak Kuda should be

No one noticed the inversion.
They noticed the texture.
They were delighted by the experimental flavour.
And one tasting even turned into a Chinese New Year order. 

A quiet reminder that in both baking and work, outcomes matter more than process perfection.
