Yuck.

Sleep 8 hours/night. 

But why, then, are there nights when you sleep for 5 hours and feel great?

Drink 3 Liters of water/day. 

But what if you’re not thirsty?
Why would you drink water if you’re not thirsty?
If you’re eating a whole foods diet, do you need to drink the same amount of water as if you were eating a diet full of processed foods?

Eat 2,000 calories per day.

Talked to a CEO + founder client this afternoon. He called to say thanks. His people are losing weight, more productive, happier, less stressed. 

I reminded him that he’s the one who connected his people with their health guy. And he’s good at picking high-potential people. 

His sales guy was expecting to have a down quarter (“Q4 is always slow”). He’s on track to have his second-best month in the 5 years he’s been at the company. What happened?

“I’ve got more energy so I’ve been reaching out to prospects more.”
 
I asked the founder why he invested in this kind of support for his people. What sort of ROI was he hoping to see?

His answer, “Not really worried about ROI. Not everyone has access to this kind of thing and I figured it could help them.”

Can doing the right thing for your people really help your bottom line???

Client texted today to cancel this afternoon’s call. She’s sick, Thanksgiving is coming, the works. 

No sweat. Same day + time next week? 

Yep. 

I went to change the calendar invite immediately. 
Client had already sent a new invitation with updated day and time. 

What if we all operated like this client?
Wouldn’t the world be a better place?

A couple weeks back, a friend sent a piece about his friend who used AI as his health coach. Helped him with some technical stuff like suggesting he ask his doctor about a new medication because the current one was messing up his hormones. Smart.

Another friend told me he wouldn’t hire a health coach because all the information is available online. True. And fine, because he doesn’t need a health coach. 

So, what’s left? Is AI coming for everyone’s job? Are you going to ChatGPT your way to losing 50 pounds? Is knowing what you need to do enough?

Drinking coffee, reading 4,000 Weeks by Oliver Burkeman. There's some stuff in the epilogue about self-help. 

The question, "If telling someone what to do was enough, wouldn't we know it already?" came up. 

Reminded me of a friend who sent a DM a couple weeks ago. Said something like, "I know you charge for this stuff, but maybe you can share a few free tips with a friend? Please? I need to lose weight." 

4,000 weeks. This guy is in his early 30s. 30x52 = 1560 weeks gone, 40% of life is in the rearview. 

Doesn't it make you wonder?

Is another podcast episode, another free tip going to get you from where you are to where you want to be? 
How long has it been this way? 
How long are you going to tolerate it?

3 things I heard this week: 

-"I'm walking 12,000 steps/day."
-"My clothes aren't so tight anymore!"
-"My girlfriend told me she's proud of the progress I'm making."

Say you lose 10 pounds by 12/31/2025...who's the first person to notice?

Talked to a guy today:

He's lost weight before. That time around, he started 75 Hard and stopped eating at the same time. If it’s all about CICO, he was a model student.

But it sucked!
Energy was low, he was injured a few weeks in.
Made it 25% of the way to his weight loss goal.
3 months later he had gained it all back +20 lbs.

Doing it differently this time around.
More exercise, but not so extreme.
Eating plenty, and it's all real stuff.
Doesn’t count calories, macros, etc.
And? 

He’s down 10 pounds in the last 6 weeks. 
Shooting for 15 by Thanksgiving. 
Family telling him he’s got more energy. 

Can it really be simple, pain-free, maybe even fun?!?!

Develop a bias for action.

Harsh truth:
Waiting for the 'right time' often means missing the time entirely.

We think later will be better, easier, or more convenient—but that’s not how life works.

Remember, there’s always a clock ticking that you can’t see.

Send that message.
Book that flight.
Start that project.
Tell people how you feel.

“Ready” isn’t a feeling, it’s a decision.
One that you can make right now.

If you're struggling, try this:

1️⃣ Set decision deadlines — Give yourself a time limit so decisions don’t drag on. Here’s a good rule of thumb: 24 hours for small decisions, one week for big ones.

2️⃣ Focus on the minimum viable action — Identify the smallest step you can take right now. Write one sentence. Open the document. Make the call. Action creates clarity.

3️⃣ Commit publicly — Tell a friend, post an update, or add it to your calendar. Once others know, your brain shifts from “should I?” to “how do I?”.

The clock keeps ticking whether you act or not.

The only way to become the kind of person who can do the thing…is to start doing the thing before you feel like that kind of person.

Read that twice.

Most people get this backwards.

They wait until they feel like a "real" writer to publish.
They wait until they feel like a leader to speak up.

But here’s the thing: 
Identity doesn’t come first, action does.

The evidence you're searching for only shows up after you start.

So if you're feeling stuck right now.

Overthinking. 
Overpreparing. 
Overconsuming.

Ask yourself:
1. What would the “qualified” version of me do today?
2. What small move could I make in that direction?

Then do that.

Act like the person you want to become.
Eventually, you won’t be acting anymore.

The thing you're avoiding isn't hard because you’re incapable.

It's hard because you've never done it before.

Your first time posting online. 
Your first cold email. 
Your first product launch. 
Your first time speaking up in a meeting.

They all feel impossible—until they don't.

a study everyone should know about:

Your brain is lying to you about the past.

Research shows we overestimate how predictable past events were by 30-50% (hindsight bias).

Translation: 
You think you "should have known better" way more often than you actually could have.

When you catch yourself spiraling about a past decision, run it through this filter:

1. Information gap - What did I not know then that I know now?
2. Resource gap - What didn't I have access to? (time, money, support, tools)
3. Awareness gap - What emotional patterns or blind spots hadn't I recognized yet?
4. Growth gap - What skills or wisdom hadn't I developed?

Your brain rewrites history to make past outcomes seem obvious. 

The reality is:
You did the best you could with what you knew. Now you know more. 

That's not failure, that's the whole point.

Remember:

It's better to admit you walked through the wrong door than spend your life in the wrong room.

I see this everywhere. 

The soul-crushing job we keep because it sounds impressive on paper.
The toxic relationship we cling to because leaving feels like giving up.
The outdated belief we defend because we've already invested so much of ourselves into it.

The hard part isn't recognizing this, it’s admitting it.

Because admitting you're in the wrong room means admitting you made a mistake. It means backing out. Confronting the sunk cost. Disappointing people. Starting over.

But here's what nobody tells you: staying costs more.

Every day in the wrong room is a day not spent in the right one.
It's not just wasted time, it's the compounding loss of what could have been.

The opportunities you'll never see. 
The version of yourself you'll never become.

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do in life is simply say: "This isn't right for me anymore.”

And then move on.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

Developing a bias for action is one of the most valuable things you can do in life.

This advice isn't anything new, Rumi was preaching the same thing almost 1,000 years ago: "As you start to walk on the way, the way appears."

As far as making this part of your every day working process goes, here are a few ideas:

1. Start every morning with one “move it forward” task. Pick the single smallest action that will advance your most important project, and do it before checking anything reactive.

2. Shrink every task to the next physical step. Not “write the article” but “outline the first three points.” Not “launch the product” but “draft the landing page headline.”

3. End the day by setting tomorrow’s first action. Before you close your laptop, write down the exact task you’ll start with in the morning.

An idea that genuinely changed my life…

The Average Tuesday Rule:

The quality of your ordinary Tuesday is the best measure of your life satisfaction.

Think about it.

We spend 80% of our lives on these “nothing special” days, yet we obsess over optimizing the other 20%—weekends, vacations, milestones.

We tolerate miserable Tuesdays while dreaming about spectacular Saturdays.

But when your average Tuesday is an 8/10, everything changes:
↳ You stop counting down to Friday.
↳ Small moments start mattering more than big events.
↳ You start enjoying the entire ride, not just the peaks.

Most self-improvement advice focuses on reaching the ceiling.

The Average Tuesday Rule flips this approach: focus on raising your floor.

Here’s where to start:

➊ Design your ideal ordinary day:
 From wake-up to bedtime, craft a realistic blueprint for an 8/10 Tuesday.

➋ Take small steps to close the gap: 
- Identify one daily friction point and solve it permanently. 
- Add one small joy to your routine and protect it fiercely.
- Subtract one energy leak that consistently drains you. 

❸ Keep doing this until your reality matches your ideal.

Because life isn’t made up of mountaintop moments.

It’s made up of average Tuesdays.

I've spent the last decade obsessing over productivity.

To be honest, most of the advice out there is hustle-bro BS.

Hour long morning routines.
Mainlining caffeine and nicotine.
Tracking your sleep with three different devices.

In reality, it mostly just boils down to this:

Do the hard things as early in the day as possible.

A bit of an oversimplification, yes, but this is really what started moving the needle for me both in my personal and professional life.

Note: This doesn't just apply to entrepreneurs.

The same principle works if you’re climbing the ladder at a 9–5, running a side project, or just trying to build momentum outside of work.

A few ways to make sure this happens:

1. Wake up an hour earlier
Yep, sometimes it’s that simple. You don't need to become a 4am psycho, but an extra hour before the chaos of the day sets in goes a long way.

2. Don't start your day with "busywork"
We want to avoid “rocking horse syndrome” at all costs. Filling your time with admin, organizing files, and clearing notifications might feel productive, but it's just motion without progress.

3. Decide on your "hard thing" the night before
Don't waste your peak morning energy choosing what to work on. Spend 5 minutes tonight identifying tomorrow's most important task, so you can hit the ground running.

4. Kill distractions until you’re done
Phone out of reach. Notifications off. Most people don’t lack time, they just lack the focus to actually use their time effectively.

That’s it.

No 5am cold plunges. No biohacking supplements.

Just do the hard things first.

Make a habit of winning early, and you’ll never end a day feeling behind.

A reframe about health I can't stop thinking about:

“If you switched bodies with the person you love most for a year, how would you take care of their mind & body knowing you'd be giving it back to them? How would you take care of that person you love the most? Now do that for you.”

This idea came at the perfect time for me.

I spent the last week moving into a new apartment.

The good news is I love it.

The bad news is that in the heat of moving, my healthy habits went completely out the window.

UberEats for every meal.
Hardly any gym.
Sleep schedule trashed.

I'm cutting myself some slack because moving is a nightmare. But there's a pattern here I can't ignore:

Whenever life gets hectic, my health habits are always the first thing to slide.

This reframe was the kick in the butt I needed to get back on track.

And the next time I catch myself slipping into this pattern (because there will be a next time), I'll be coming back to this question.
