When it's 3am but you just thought of a post idea for a client 🙂‍↕️

LinkedIn is interesting because what do you mean I have nearly 30k connections but always see the same 3 people's posts in my feed?







Edit: Like 16k connections (I looked at followers earlier, but same question remains..)

How life feels when you accept that not everyone holds the same opinion as you, and you don't actually have to make it your life's mission to change everyone's mind 💜

Things that I thought would ruin my life but didn't?

- My first and only B+ on a high school report card

- Dropping my history of cooking college class after the withdrawal deadline

- Not getting accepted into a private high school

- Switching majors with less than a year left until I was done with that degree 

- Realizing I was bad at an instrument I thought I’d be great at

- Outgrowing a 12-year friendship that once felt like it would last forever 

- Taking a job that wasn’t the “right” move on paper

- Saying no to opportunities everyone told me to say yes to

- Launching a business after doing a few weeks of prep work and having no business plan on paper

- Becoming a marketer even though I got a Master's Degree in Political Science (thought I'd be fighting human trafficking internationally by now, but here we are)

- Letting go of versions of myself that I spent years on

- Getting rejected for roles that I was really, really excited for 

Somewhere along the way, I learned that “this will ruin my life” usually just means “this is uncomfortable and doesn't align with my initial plan". 

And discomfort is a terrible fortune teller.

What did you think would ruin your life.. That absolutely didn’t?

I've grown. I'm a different woman than I was then. We all change.

But the good news.. Is Retold is here in 2026 😏

I'm challenging myself to do the impossible..



I'm going to stop going through 2 weeks of my own LinkedIn content in 2 days. 

I just get super excited when I think of ideas for posts, and even though I tell myself, "Nice, this will get me through to next month!" I always end up sharing them almost immediately. 

And when I create for my clients at Retold, I also always remind them.. "Don't post it all at once!" 

So, if you see me posting more than 2 times in one day.. Just know, I've failed 😅

How often do you create content here?

I don’t think AI will ever replace marketers. But some jobs? Already halfway there.

This was our waiter at lunch the other day.
Polite. Efficient. No small talk. No tipping.

And not human.

Me and my friend? We didn’t hate it.

I care a lot about the human element, just not for every interaction. 

Taking an order and dropping off food doesn’t need a personality attached to it, at least for me. 

And when I think of how out of hand tipping culture has gotten in some countries.. I think maybe robot waiters are the answer 🤷

How about you, where do you draw the line?

Some people take LinkedIn so seriously, like we aren’t all flesh blobs on a giant rock hurtling through space 🫥

“You’re so lucky you're extroverted, Marina!”

Thanks! That’s the end result of a very specific character arc.. 

It started in elementary school, when my 'friends'  (one of whom tried to schedule a call with me on LinkedIn a few years ago) noticed I was mirroring them just to fit in. They pointed it out. Repeatedly. Which is a great way to make a kid hyper-aware of everything they ever say or do. 

So I course-corrected.

From that point on, my goal was simple. I wanted to disappear into the background. Be quiet. Don’t stand out. Don’t give anyone material. Get good grades, get a job, and never see these people again once school is over.

And my strategy worked. 

Fast forward a few years to college and suddenly I’m “confident".

“Outgoing"

“Great with people".

What you’re actually seeing is someone who spent years learning how to read a room and control how they’re perceived because not doing so once came with consequences.

So yes. I can talk to anyone now, which can be really convenient. 

But it wasn’t born from being naturally out there or social. 

Like marketing, it was something I learned. But unlike marketing, it came out of sheer necessity.

The things that look effortless and lucky are often the ones resulting from years and years of hard work and effort. 

Don't forget that next time you call someone lucky for being a certain way 💜

When someone DMs me a pitch and tries to build trust by name-dropping random influencers they've worked with, and I'm just like..

Me: I just don't get why people comment on my posts without reacting to them 🤨

Also me: 😶‍🌫️

PS - I know a lot of y'all are reading non-fiction, and that's awesome, but fiction is what gets my brain going for Retold most days! Helps keep me creative 😎 Anyone else team fiction?

Me: I'm an experienced marketer. I see through all the psychological tricks. Marketing rarely works on me.
