They called it:
The Woman Who Never Did Anything.

The sculpture is in Zaragoza, Spain.

Look closely.

She is bent under the weight of washing machines, buckets, brooms, and everything it takes to keep a household running. Yet she is still holding her children’s hands.

This is the work that for generations was called “nothing.”

Unpaid.
Unrecorded.
Often unrecognized.

And somehow… still called nothing.

If the work many mothers do at home were written as a corporate job description, it would look something like this 👇🏼

Chief Operations Officer of the household, responsible for logistics, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, nutrition planning, sanitation, conflict resolution, early childhood development, education support, transportation coordination, healthcare management, and the emotional wellbeing of multiple team members.

The role requires leadership, crisis management, strategic planning, and long hours with no days off. Yet despite the scope and responsibility, society often labeled this work as “doing nothing.”

And to the women who are planning to transition back into the workforce after raising their families, do not be ashamed of that chapter of your life.

Raising children and managing a household is real work.

Those years build leadership, organization, resilience, and problem-solving skills that many organizations value deeply.

Put it on your résumé.

Because you were not doing nothing.

You were running an entire operation.

The title of the sculpture is ironic, of course.

Because millions of women have carried entire households, communities, and generations on their backs while the world dismissed their labor as invisible.

This sculpture is not about one woman.

It is about millions.

Happy International Women’s Month to the women who were told they did nothing while doing everything.
