At 59, I’m not “starting over.”
I’m rebuilding the parts of me life tried to silence, after cancer, job loss, 45 years of smoking, and the falls (literal and not) that came with all of it.

Rebuilding isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about stripping away everything that was never yours in the first place and finding the voice you lost under the noise.

Here’s what I rebuilt:

• Body: from a two-minute runner to training for my first half-marathon
• Career: from laid off to building a voice business
• Health: from smoker to free breath
• Identity: from invisible to unmistakable
• Voice: from muted to amplified

The lesson?

When life breaks you open, it also reveals the voice you were meant to use all along.

When rebuilding after loss, illness, years of hardship, or being laid off, it takes more than a content calendar.
It takes a beat that resonates with your heartbeat when it refuses to give in.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀: These aren't just background songs.
They are vocal roadmaps.
The words you haven't discovered yet, living in the melody until you're ready to say them.

When Sia sings "Unstoppable" at mile 3, she's not just singing about strength.
She's singing about navigating with pieces still missing.

When Andra Day's "Rise Up" plays, it's not something abstract.
At 59, getting up is a daily reality.
From hospital beds. From the floor, from heartbreak, when life challenges you.
Your soundtrack doesn't just motivate you, it knows you.

𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀:

Some people count the days until Christmas.  
I count the moments, because I’m lucky enough to have it twice.
 
Christmas has always been my anchor.  
No matter where I lived, no matter how fast the year rushed by, I always found myself back home, at the same table, with the same familiar warmth.
 
What I love most isn’t the gifts or the lights (even if taking them down is a battle).  It’s the effort we make to truly show up for one another, not out of obligation, but out of joy.
 
When you celebrate twice, something shifts.  
You learn that Christmas isn’t a date.  Its presence.  
It’s choosing to give with pleasure.  
It’s watching a face light up and thinking, “This… this is why we came.”
 
I’m grateful for the tradition that brings me home once, and thankful for the second one that brings me home again.
 
Two Christmases. Two chances to appreciate the people who make the year worth living.

My niece Ba turns 43 today.
 
I was 16 when I learned I would become an aunt.  I called her 𝘮𝘺 𝘱𝘦𝘢 before I knew who she would become.  Somehow, I already understood she would matter deeply in my life.
 
This week, over coffee, we talked about life. It's turns, it's losses, it's beauty, and the way wisdom is earned rather than learned.
 
And it reminded me of something important:
 
Women 50+ don’t just carry experience.  We carry 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆.

We become:  
– steady ground when things feel uncertain 
– translators between generations 
– witnesses to both struggle and growth.
 
Not through advice. Through presence.
Our stories don’t instruct.  They 𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲.
Our listening doesn’t fix.  It 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲.
 
This is the kind of leadership that rarely shows up on résumés, but shapes lives in lasting ways.

𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀, 𝗺𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗰… 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 


I confess… I didn’t even know there was a 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘂𝘀 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘆, which happens on 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟰, a day we do not celebrate in Portugal.

Me? I start earlier. Not because I’m overly organized, but because 𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗲𝘁 𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽𝘀 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝗰𝗸 𝗺𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻. 

I prefer wandering through the shelves calmly, without the soundtrack of stress in the background.

And then there’s the 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻… Have you noticed? 
More and more people are moving gift exchanges to the 𝟮𝟲𝘁𝗵, when prices drop. Money, that dirty little thing that can destroy a bit of the magic, creeps in.

Still, whether it’s on the 𝟮𝟲𝘁𝗵, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟰𝘁𝗵, or much earlier, one thing remains the same for me: I grab a pen, sit quietly, and make 𝗺𝘆 𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁. 
The order never changes, except for those who have already left.

And you? Do you write yours?
Because a list is a way of remembering, prioritizing, and keeping a bit of the season’s soul alive. 🎅

𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 – 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻: 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲


If I were a party, you'd call me 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴. 
If I were a philosophy? I'd call it 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘀.

Reinvention after 50 doesn’t begin with a big moment.  
It begins with the smallest one you choose to celebrate.
 
For women 50+ rebuilding their voice, and for CEOs and founders leading through pressure, celebration becomes something different:  𝗮 𝗳𝘂𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲.  
A way to restore strength, belief, and visibility when life asks you to start again.
 
At 59, here’s what I learned:  𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
 
They teach you that progress is still yours.  
They remind you that resilience is cumulative.
 
Here’s what celebration looks like now:  
• Waking up without chest pain  
• Choosing words over cigarettes  
• Running past the place I fell last week  
• A prosthesis that fits without pain today  
• A message from a woman whispering, “Me too.” 
• Posting consistently, even when engagement is silent  
• Preparing to turn 60, not despite everything, because of it
 
𝗔 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗘𝗢𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀:
 
Reinvention is not just a personal story. It’s a leadership strategy.  
Your team watches what you celebrate.  
Your culture grows from what you acknowledge.  
Your resilience becomes permission for everyone else to rise.
 
And for women 50+ who feel invisible in the noise:  Celebration is how you reclaim space.  It’s how you remind the world — and yourself — that you’re not done creating.
 
Reinvention isn’t a new identity.  
It’s a deeper one.  
Built one small, decisive win at a time.
 
𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂. 𝗜 𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂.

Frank Gehry redefined what architecture could be.

Gehry, who passed away yesterday at 96, left a legacy built on imagination, risk, and the belief that buildings could be sculpture. 

His work, from Bilbao’s Guggenheim to Walt Disney Concert Hall,reshaped skylines and expanded the boundaries of contemporary design.

What set Gehry apart wasn’t just form. 
It was conviction. 
He showed architects and creatives that innovation comes from questioning conventions, exploring materials in new ways, and trusting bold ideas.

His influence will outlast all of us. 
His buildings continue to teach us how design can inspire emotion, movement, and possibility.

A visionary is gone, but his impact remains in every curve, every reflection, every risk taken by the next generation of creators.

𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗲𝘀…, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗱𝗜𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻
 

In real life, people often make assumptions about us.  
A look, a moment, a misunderstanding, and suddenly we’re placed in a box we didn’t choose.
 
Here, it works differently.
 
On LinkedIn, we get to speak in our own words.  
We express who we are, not whom someone thinks we are.  
We define our story instead of living under someone else’s version of it.
 
That contrast is powerful:
 
𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁.  𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁.
 
And sometimes, that simple shift is enough to make us feel seen in a way we rarely experience in daily life.
 
So I’m curious:
 
𝗛𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝘁𝗼𝗼?

Clare Torry.
 
Abbey Road Studios, 1973.  The brief: improvise about death. No lyrics. No guidance. Just voice.
 
She walks in and delivers twenty minutes of raw, unfiltered truth.  Then apologizes, convinced she’s gone too far.
 
That detail matters.
 
Because this is how uncredited authority often shows up:  fully expressed, deeply impactful, and immediately minimized by the person who delivered it.
 
She’s paid £30.  A standard session fee.  And she leaves.
 
What she doesn’t know is that she has just created one of the most recognizable vocal performances in modern music.
 
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘎𝘪𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘬𝘺 becomes legendary.  Her voice becomes the emotional core of 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝘚𝘪𝘥𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘰𝘰𝘯.
 
Her name appears nowhere.
 
For 32 years, her work moves millions.  She remains invisible.
 
This is the part most people misunderstand about authority:  you can be essential and still unrecognized.
 
Not because the work lacks power —  but because power without positioning is easy to appropriate.
 
In 2004, at 56, Clare Torry decides to correct the record.  She sues for co-composer credit.
 
Not for validation.  Not for charity.  For accuracy.
 
She wins.
 
Nothing about the work changed.  Only the recognition of its value did.
 
At 59, rebuilding after being laid off, I see this pattern everywhere.
 
In leaders whose strategic insight saves the business but is credited to “the team.”  In creatives whose defining contribution is reframed as execution.  In women whose voice shapes outcomes but never appears on the record.
 
Authority does not need permission to exist.  But it 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘄𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱.
 
Clare Torry’s story is not about talent.  It’s about credit.
 
And the cost of waiting decades to claim it.
 
Your work was always there.  Its impact was never in question.
 
What matters now is whether your name is attached to it.

𝟳𝟬.𝟰% 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝘆 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀  
𝗢𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟲.𝟭% 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁𝘀
 
The content I write.  The stories I craft.  The work I create to help women rise.
 
That tells me something important, and it's not flattering.
 
The platform rewards me more for 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 than for 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗺𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻.
 
At 59, after health challenges, job loss, and rebuilding my life, I didn't come here to stay in the background.
 
I came to:  
• Build authority  
• Generate leads  
• Grow a business that matters  
• Amplify women who are too often overlooked.
 
And here's the uncomfortable pattern I keep seeing, especially for women 50+:
 
We're visible enough to boost engagement.  
But not always visible enough to convert that visibility into opportunity.
 
Comments travel further than posts.  
Engagement is rewarded faster than originality.  
Consistency often matters more than experience.
 
That's not a complaint.  It's a 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝗹.
 
𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗜'𝗺 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴:
 
• 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁.  If fewer posts are shown, each one must earn saves and shares.
 
• 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁, not small talk, insight that drives profile clicks and real, honest conversations.
 
• 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝗳-𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺, because algorithms don't own real business (and yes, this is already happening, and it's powerful).
 
• 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗻, not just like. 
Not just react. Actually share.
 
𝗧𝗼 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝟱𝟬+ 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆:
